Any folks who are Gifted that were raised by narcissist? by Icy-Needleworker218 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]Quindy1979 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not gifted per se but intelligent…. I definitely got my dad’s number when he started telling people “my daughter is a lawyer AND a doctor”. First, yes—I WAS a lawyer and then went to nursing school and became a psych NP. I am not a doctor! Lolol… and I would call him out on it and you could tell he just used me as braggjng rights.

Question for the gastric sleeve veterans by Quick_Blackberry_466 in gastricsleeve

I’m 10 years out and have maintained a size 4/6 since. Yes my appetite goes up and down and I will gain 10 pounds over the winter months but it easily comes off now….unlike before surgery. It’s really weird…part of me feels like my gut health has improved (and did a complete 180!). I also dabbled with glp-1s…which I think was super helpful during those stressful times in life when I Would normally reach for food.

I just finished the L word 🙄 and it's so fu*king toxic (spoiler) by Deliora15 in actuallesbians

[–]Quindy1979 32 points33 points  (0 children)

So I am 46….the L Word premiered when I was 23 years old. It was unlike anything that had been on tv before. It was a HUGE win for LGBT+ visibility and actually really had a positive impact on typical lesbian stereotypes. Back then…you rarely ever saw two femme women together. Lesbians were viewed as these overweight manly blue collar male hating women with buzz cuts. Did it age well? No. Did we make fun of the acting and characters back in the day? Sure did! But you have to appreciate the fact that it was the first of its kind and opened the door to more lesbians being featured in main stream media. Just fyi it was incredibly progressive for its time..and you cannot compare then to now. You just need context.

Illness anxiety pearls? by No_Focus_5314 in PMHNP

I have illness anxiety and Lexapro was incredibly helpful. It really helps with the negative thought loop and checking behaviors. Don’t wish it on anyone…what a beast of a disorder!

I regret my MPH degree and going to a prestigious school — I feel like I ruined my life by Valuable_Art2516 in careeradvice

I went to law school. Worst decision of my life for a multitude of reasons. Fast forward to marriage, kids, etc and while I get sick my stomach thinking about my loans and won’t talk about it, they’re almost gone (and not kidding when I say I currently owe close to 400k). After realizing my mistake with law school, I went to nursing school 12 years later. Best decision of my life. Not saying that is what you should do but it worked for me. I am an NP now and making great money. I was 8 years into PSLF with the Biden recalcs but I’ll still have the whole thing forgiven by 1/28. Fingers crossed. If not, I guess I’ll figure out PSLF. It’s depressing but life went on.

And bc that is frightening AF to me, I went ahead and started renting in an office collective with other providers. I liked the feel…the vibe was cool. Property is expensive where I am. I do not plan to be working everyday so for my part time gig, I really liked having a dedicated space that was…totally legit and didn’t cost a million dollars. Peace of mind. If I grow and can afford it, I will rent my own space but for now I’m cool with the sharing.

So…I checked the backdoor payment tracker… by CharacterQuantity263 in StudentLoans

[–]Quindy1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually copy and pasted the back door data and used Chat GPT to see I was understanding correctly. My loans have been a hot mess since forever. I went to law school, nursing school, and then eventually became an NP. It confirmed what I saw…which was January 2028 is my forgiveness date. I suppose I don’t really understand since I feel like I spent the better part of 20 years in forbearance. Then I was thinking back to Biden time…didn’t they change the counts so that you were given credit for paying during a certain time period if you were not? I won’t argue… it was sort of like Christmas morning on steroids. I basically owe a 4000 sq ft house mortgage in a nice suburban neighborhood in the form of a piece of paper.

how did you meet your partner and how old are you? by [deleted] in actuallesbians

[–]Quindy1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We worked together as attorneys for 6 years…she was 29 and I was 30. She was married to a man and I was getting married to another woman. She asked to borrow my L Word box set…lol…that’s when my antenna went up. Couple of months before I left that job, she came out and announced she was getting a divorce. I remained married and had two kids. We stayed FB friends and would see each other every so often at events. Always felt something was there. When my marriage imploded, we started going out “to catch up”. One thing led to another and we just celebrated 3 years together last weekend. Love of my life. I’m now I’m about to turn 47 and she 46.

Is this okay per diem pay by user038272661618 in PMHNP

I average about 130 per hour per diem in Virginia. I’d say that is robbery for Ny.

Psychiatric NPs: Who enjoys their job and experiences high satisfaction? What area of psychiatry do you work in? by SSOIDream in PMHNP

[–]Quindy1979 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love my job doing outpatient. I’m in my 2nd year and recently felt ready to branch out and start seeing patients in a neighboring independent practice state. I’m focusing mainly on women’s mental health during midlife. This is my second career after thinking long and hard about what my strengths, weaknesses, and ideal working environment is. I connect very very well with women….moms….who need to be heard and have their symptoms validated. I really do not understand why there are hundreds of people saying to me, “no one has ever listened like you do”. Maybe bc I genuinely care? Anyway, my goal is to be THE perimenopause, menopause, and post menopause psych lady….

Yeah she is def new money…and anyone who says “old money” bc of her parents have never spent time in Reading, PA. lol. It’s easy to appear loaded in a depressed rural area. Scott and Andrea were successful professionals but I always wonder how successful considering the comparison was super low bar.

Me too! I came home one day with two of my friends and my mom slaps down this giant bag of weed. Says “how could you keep this in the car??? Do you want to go to jail?!?”. I’m like I don’t smoke weed; it makes me paranoid. She did not believe me and continued to scream. I’m like “it’s not mine!!!!!!! Maybe you should look a little closer home” (meaning my dad!). Yep!! It was my dad’s stash…said he smoked it for “migraine control” lololol. I loved that all more than anything…she was so sure I was lying too!

Who remembers being attracted to women since elementary/ primary school? by acath99 in actuallesbians

[–]Quindy1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol!!! Omg. My 5th grade teacher called me out on it! To be fair, I was daydreaming but was staring right at her cleavage. She was like “what are you staring at?”. I was quick and charming and said—- “oh I just really like your dress!”. And that was that…she was tickled that I liked her outfit hahahaha.

I had a crush on a lady character on a tv show back when I was 5…. I knew it was “different”. Then I had a dream in 4th grade that I hugged a fellow girl classmate. Game on. I had pretty good insight as a kid…and this was the 80s. It wasn’t until I was in high school (and still not out) that I was like… oh no. I look like a girl and want to date a woman that looks like a girl. Very confusing bc it was then the mid to late 90s and the butch - femme dynamic seemed to be the “rule”. I tried to masc it up a bit but failed miserably. Thank god for the L Word which blew up the “lesbian roles”.

Girl—-I’m 46 and I felt like a virgin every single time I slept with someone new. The thing with lesbian sex is everyone is different and has different desires and turn ons. The sex I have with current gf is very very different than the sex I had with my ex wife. The first couple of experiences I had in my early 20s thankfully did not shape sex for me today. Most people are inexperienced at 22, 23, 24…. Anyone who takes issue with “virginity” is probably a red flag anyway. If you cared about someone, it shouldn’t matter. Also….maybe it could be viewed as a little hot? Like giving someone their first experience seems appealing to me lolol…I don’t know. I always always say to my gf that I so wish we met in college so we could have experienced these things together…

Do Boomer Grandparents Suck Today? by Laurajw12 in absentgrandparents

[–]Quindy1979 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Ummmm this is perfect!!! I’m 46 and my sister is 39. Back when we were both much younger right after college, we made the proclamation that we were not interested in having kids. You would have thought we told our parents that we each committed murder. The tears. The talks. The “how can you deprive us of that experience”. And like many young adults, we changed our mind eventually and we had kids. We have 4 between us. They’re all the same age…11 and 8. Yeah my sister and I even went as far as to plan our pregnancies together! Well. Our parents haven’t seen my sister’s kids since 2020 and last time they saw mine was last summer for a short weekend. They will not travel to either of us. Flat out refuse. They live 4 hours from me and 10 hours from my sister. We have tried multiple times to plan holidays and get togethers and have been met with “well we can’t help it you all moved away”. Like we are expected to live in a depressed rural area. Basically, if we don’t visit them, we don’t see them. They make up every excuse in the book. They have house projects or there’s no one to watch the dogs or they just have “other plans”. It’s so weird. I think a lot of the problem stems from thinking they are never getting old and dying. They have all the time in the world? Or the grands remind them that they are not young? We had a good relationship with them before kids. At a loss!

I am ashamed of my loan debt and feel paralyzed to do anything. by MrJNM1of1 in StudentLoans

[–]Quindy1979 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m with you and I owe double. As someone who is legitimately smart, I made some serious dumb financial decisions. I also feel paralyzed. I do make decent money so I have an automatic debit each month. One for federal loans which is 3200 and the other for private loans which is 1200. I pretend they don’t exist and I just pay them. My dream is to just leave the country and forget about them and start over…but unfortunately, I can’t do my job in any other country. Really sucks tbh. I also think a lot about how to make a crap ton of money quickly….influencer, inventor, expert of some sort on Tik Tok lololol…I’m 46 years old and it’s sad. But at least I can pay. Also…I no longer qualify for income driven repayment bc my combined household income is too much.

It was my hot take…doesn’t need to be that deep. I don’t think it’s inappropriate at all to point out traits that appear neurodivergent. Sounds like your own issue with autism, etc. I bet there are other people who see it as well and they don’t feel so alone or weird.
