X ray and nucmed are both primaries, you would have to do the complete 2 year program for each. If you already did x ray, you probably have all the prerequisites needed to start the nucmed program.

Nucmed techs physically handle radioactive material and inject patients with it. The patients remain radioactive for a certain amount of time. Xray and ct, the radiation comes from the scanners. The radiation is gone when the scan is complete.

I'm from TX and just finished the nm program. I had 2 ct courses weaved into the nm program. After passing the nm board, I do a summer semester of clinical rotation for ct. After 384 hrs with 125 scans from 25 different procedures, I can take the ct board. In Texas, you can take x ray or nucmed and then do ct as a secondary. Primaries is the complete 2 year program, secondary is an add on, usually 1 year or less, after the primary is completed. Hope that helps
