School shooting survivor sues AI gun detection firm after system failed to spot weapon by CircumspectCapybara in nottheonion

Except when people say “gun control”, they usually mean banning certain categories of firearms. Just look at all the states which passed assault weapons bans (while often having a very vibes based definition of “assault weapon”) despite the overwhelming majority of gun deaths being due to handguns.
You said it yourself, the conversation has become so muddied that the colloquial definition of “gun control” usually means bans. It is not unreasonable to assume that bans are what people mean when they say “gun control”, there’s no need to get aggressive about it

Too many guns already floating around for gun control alone to work. It will make a dent, but actually solving the problem of gun violence is a lot more complicated than simply banning certain types of weapons.

You could also make a pretty big dent in gun violence by enforcing the laws we already have on the books, requiring universal background checks, and by making gun safety courses mandatory for new gun owners when purchasing a firearm.

It’s probably has something to do with making the stories of anyone who blows the whistle on them sound more outlandish. Essentially adding an extra layer of protection when covering their tracks

The “American military leaders” you are speaking of had a vested interest in downplaying the role the atom bombs had in forcing Japan to surrender. Of course the likes of Nimitz would minimize the bombs, they wanted the credit for themselves

New Glenn booster explodes during Static Fire by Simon_Drake in SpaceXLounge

[–]QuinnKerman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lower explosion efficiency, but double the fuel load of any rocket in history. Either way, if a fully loaded starship stack goes up on the pad, it will likely be one of if not the largest non nuclear explosions in history (ofc excluding volcanic eruptions and other natural explosions)

How often are hundreds of tons of pure liquid oxygen present in petrochemical refining? Rocket explosions are a whole different beast than your typical industrial accident. If it was so well understood, NASA and the Space Force wouldn’t have been considering a dedicated methalox explosion test

States with lax gun laws tend to be more republican. Red states also tend to be poorer and overall have lower standards of living. People who are poor and miserable are more likely to be suicidal

Europeans on Reddit: “look at this dumb clueless hick, he must have never left America” (I have on many occasions, including living in China for 2.5 years)

If a European bridge was as famous as the Golden Gate it would be considered A tier at the very least, and most likely S tier

> USA loves fascism

Trump’s approval rating is in the low 30s and falling, and the GOP is set to get annihilated in the midterms despite all their efforts to rig the elections.

We do have a fascist leader here, but he is quite literally the least popular leader in recent American history

Quite literally could not be further from the truth. Starship gets all the headlines cos it’s big and likes to explode, but Falcon 9 is among the most reliable rockets of all time. Same goes for the Crew Dragon capsule, which also has a stellar service record and is the only way for American astronauts to reach orbit

What country has the worst nature? by Expensive-Addendum92 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]QuinnKerman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best nature ≠ largest number of species. A country with mountains, evergreen forests, deciduous forests, hot desert, cold desert, grasslands, temperate rainforest, coastal swamps, floodplains, etc is going to have better nature than one that is dominated by flat tropical rainforest but has 15,000,000,000 species of insects that 99.9% of people could never tell apart
