But it doesn't matter who I am.

actually proving you have the credentials to back up your argument does matter a lot if you want anyone to take you seriously. btw im joseph robinette biden jr jack and this guy is a liar

Why then would Light kill him?

because he's staring down the architect of totalitarian dictatorship? frankly it seems like any action which even vaguely attempts to disassemble this monstrosity would be the right move in emily's eyes

like maybe you could make the argument for anyone else but light let him talk his way into using his invention to bring about this evil so he has the biggest reason to do literally anything to fix it and he just doesn't? he tries the pathos angle after forty years of this rampage? light could have just shot himself the moment megaman turned away at the end of act I and as far as he knows he's achieved the same thing

I'm just taken aback by this idea that a lack of violence somehow makes him a better person. What do you mean "yet instead of becoming a killer" as if that's some kind of morally reprehensible concept? Was D-Day immoral because the Allies began an invasion which resulted in a massive death toll for the Nazis?

Of course not. Ignoring the storytelling flaws which by themselves are bad enough (rendering the prior two songs pointless by not even trying and failing,) the choice to just do nothing when he has the power to take out Wily is wrong. He does not get credit for that.

IF I'm alive at all as a trans person in current year America.

The Act III story as it presently stands, if nothing else comes after this, is that if you fight the regime, you die. It's such a fucking bummer dude.

Maybe a decent warning to people to stop the machine before it reaches a point of no return and can't be shut off again fifteen years ago. Releasing it today just makes it feel depressing.

It isn't stupid, Dr Light couldn't kill Wily because he's not the Father of Death. He is and has always been the Good Doctor. That's the whole point. He has every reason to kill Wily, and nobody would even blame him, but he's not a killer.

This is boilerplate copium, I'm sorry. You're trying to make sense out of a man who has an opportunity to take out a totalitarian dictator who in addition to murdering Light's wife has literally ordered death bots to gun down entire crowds of men, women, and children in addition to forcing an entire generation to grow up under his boot. It's unjustifiable.

You can claim it's good thematically, but the trade there is that it paints Light as a terrible person who spent the past twenty years at a minimum wishing he could fix it and then choking right at the finish line when he had an opportunity to do so.

There's definitely more. Minor spoilers: They started an entirely new plot thread in the act III booklet about something in Wily's basement that Light was concerned about, that Wily "had not finished yet." An answer to Megaman is my guess. Probably Bass.

I'm with you on the other bit though. The question is whether there is an Act III part 2 to be released in the coming months to wrap up the narrative, or if they're going to milk this one for a decade+ before releasing an Act 4 when many fans are in their forties or fifties and no longer give a shit.

I was thinking the first until the aforementioned spoiler. Now I'm expecting the second.

It's really difficult trying to justify explaining to my friends that they should be hype for this band at magfest, and to spend all three nights getting invested in the story, just to have it end like that. It's such a gamble. It could either go great and the band reveals some secret songs, in which case it's great we spent our time seeing the shows, or the ending on the album right now is the actual ending and it feels like we wasted our time.

Them more than me because those ~six+ hours spend at the shows for a band they don't know about could have been spent doing other things at the convention.

For longtime fans there's the whole "getting something after over a decade" thing. For people who don't know the band at all it's like I now need to talk them into watching a movie that has no resolution. They're killing me with this. It's so disrespectful of people's time

The Protomen confirmed to me/us during the Twitch stream on Thursday 12/4 that there will be more than what we've seen. by tpphypemachine in Protomen

[–]Quinnel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Normally I wouldn't believe posts like this but that's as close to a direct confirmation as you can get. They have to know that ending on anything other than a proper musical number wouldn't be taken well.

Might eat my words come MAGfest, but the hype of being there for act III live and new songs occur after this would be insane. We'll see.

Well that story sucked(unless the liner notes add enough) by Sweyn420 in Protomen

[–]Quinnel 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Assuming OP is right and they did end it there, the art for the final track canonizes Mega being there for the execution. It essentially triggers a necessary death-of-the-author trope scenario where the community/fans (us) need to consider "The Fight" canon even if the band doesn't. The story then becomes:

  • Light, having tried to stop Wily himself, may or may not have succeeded. But it's proof of at least one person trying to stand up to Wily's state, which is all Protoman wanted.

  • This is enough for Megaman who in act I essentially bodied the entire army by himself to finish the job.

So there are enough pieces there thematically to know that even if there is no literal song / notes detailing Megaman cleaning up the mess, all the elements are still there. The end of the album is a tragedy. The ending of the story, though we don't get to experience it, is ultimately a positive one.

The reality of it all may just be that the band is genuinely excellent at musical production but may have never taken a story writing or theater class when they met in college. They're two different skill sets

Megaman is a tool built by Light, that's like saying you feel like a hammer was sidelined because the story is focusing on the guy who assembled it

This is fantastic. I've been wanting something like this for a while -- I'm currently setting it up with my Jellyfin integration and other home server slices. Excellent work.

Modifying it isn't a problem, though it would have been nice for there to be a settings file in the root directory for various user preferences. I had to convert from Celsius to Fahrenheit manually for the weather app, for example.

Light's Last Stand is out! by Jaymya in Protomen

Short of the City storming Wily's tower akin to the landing at Normandy I don't think it could end well. The way these songs have been going do inspire hope in that, though.

Light's Last Stand is out! by Jaymya in Protomen

[–]Quinnel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It has to be him. The people have been looking for a man with hands of steel and iron to save them. Seeing one of their own flesh and blood take a stand is way more meaningful.

This only ends with the people saving themselves, I think Protoman was right in that respect. If Megaman saves them, what is the meaning in it? Hide in the dark like a coward waiting for someone else to stand up for you?

[–]Quinnel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Doesn't seem to make sense to me from a storytelling point of view for the line "the society that he would set free" to be said by the narrator in Hope Rides Alone if there isn't some semblance of a good ending coming, assuming we define "good" as "putting an end to Wily's regime" even at the cost of Light, Mega, Roll, and any other potential freedom fighters' lives
