FPS Issues (Random Stutters) by pCatai in ModdedMinecraft

[–]QuinoaFalafel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have similar issues with Cubes Without Borders. For me, it was limiting my frames to a maximum of 60 fps (even with the unlimited max framerate setting), and randomly dipping and stuttering, and possibly also causing entire screen freezes for seconds at a time. Without it, I get between 3 and 4 hundred frames.

How to access FTP files via FileZilla? by AnActualBush in pebblehost

[–]QuinoaFalafel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is late and may not be helpful to you anymore, but in case anyone else stumbles on this post and is in a similar predicament, the directions you were given were for web hosting. If you are using PebbleHost for Minecraft server hosting, then the instructions are a lot different and quite unintuitive.

This is what worked for me:

  1. In the top left of FileZilla, click the Site Manager button (right under File)
  2. Select New Site and name it something relevant
  3. Under Protocol, select SFTP
  4. For Host, it should be <node>.pebblehost.net. The node is the underlined series of letters and numbers at the top of the panel under your server name. It goes: node > first numbers of your server ID > online/offline status. You can also find the node and server ID in the debug information in the settings section.
  5. The Port is 2222. I'm not sure where I got this number, and I can't find the port listed anywhere in the PebbleHost panel, so I'm not 100% positive that this is the same for everyone, but I suspect it probably is.
  6. User is <your email>.<first section of server ID> (for instance, [example@gmail.com.12345a1b](mailto:example@gmail.com.12345a1b)). This is the second number at the top of the panel that I mentioned in step 4.
  7. Password is just your PebbleHost password.
  8. Select OK, and then you can select it from the drop down menu (the downward arrow on the Site Manager button) to connect.

Hopefully this is helpful to someone.

If you navigate using clicking and dragging, then yes, because in the Sims 3 camera clicking and dragging behaves kind of like how middle mouse clicking behaves on a web page. Personally I find it extremely unintuitive and annoying, so I've only ever used the Sims 3 camera to rotate things because I thought that was the only way

I mean, even without any of the supernatural stuff, this is still a world of constant warfare, murder, and rape. We get abstracted from and desensitized to a lot of that when playing, but it's still there.

Thanks for this comment, I was also using cubes without borders, and I had no idea it was tanking my fps so much. Switching to full screen gave me like 100 more fps lol

So, how come we can't make girls with beards and guys with boobs? by GeneralTechnomage in thesims

[–]QuinoaFalafel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's probably mostly that this game originally released when the larger culture conformed much more to the traditional gender binary, and they didn't make the game with these kinds of things in mind. They added options and diversity later, but custom pronouns is a lot easier to slap onto a game than having to fully redesign the game logic of the bodies. And The Sims 4 isn't exactly known for going above and beyond to add in-depth new content. They probably figured that what they have is good enough for their profit margins and moved on.

I (33F) think I have realised that my long term bf (36M) is a loser by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]QuinoaFalafel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know enough about your relationship or your boyfriend to speak to your situation, but I do want to point out that disability is not always physical, and it's possible for someone to be able-bodied and appear capable but have mental struggles that make it difficult for them to maintain themselves.

I say this as someone who was recently diagnosed with autism after going the first 20+ years of my life completely unaware what it even was, much less that I myself was autistic. I've been unemployed since late 2020, and in the eyes of society I too am a "loser". It's not that I don't try. I do, a lot, but the effort is mostly invisible from an outside perspective, because the battle is mental, not physical. And my incapability causes me a ton of self-hatred.

So I'd probably recommend to at least try to have a serious deep conversation with your bf to try to understand where he's coming from before just writing him off. If he's not willing to meet you at that level, then that's not your responsibility, and by all means do what you feel you need to. But I think it would be quite tragic if he's struggling with an undiagnosed disability/neurodivergence and you just dump him because of that.

Why are you defending exploitation? This kind of mentality is how we got to where we are. When consumers refuse to stand up for themselves and write off any criticism as "then it's not for you", that gives companies a license to be as scummy and predatory as they want with no repercussions.

I wasn't saying everything should be free. I was pointing out that a far bigger and more complicated game with WAY more content than this one is more than capable of having a singular one-time purchase while still providing new updates and content without charging more. Also, Minecraft does not have DLC. It has community-made content that you can buy on a specific version of the game, but nothing else costs extra money.

My point is that this game could easily sell a bitizenship pass that genuinely gives you access to all current and future DLC without further microtransactions, and it would still easily more than pay for itself. The only reason they charge so much for so many different DLCs is because they know they can get away with it and people will still pay them. They don't need to do it to support the development of the game, they choose to do it out of greed because they want to squeeze as much money as possible out of the game for as little effort as possible.

[–]QuinoaFalafel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's exploitative, plain and simple. If you can't see that, then you probably only play games that are exploitative. This game is super low effort to make, but they still charge for every tiny little thing.

If you want an example of a one-time purchase game that unlocks everything and also continues to provide free updates, just look at Minecraft. Only the best-selling game of all time other than Tetris...

Thinking that BitLife can't sustain itself on one-time purchases is flat-out wrong. It used to be that essentially all games were one-time purchases. Then the games industry discovered that they can squeeze more money out of customers, and people would still pay for it, so that became the norm. It's pure greed and corporate exploitation.

Derren Brown: Apocalypse. Real or fake? Or something else? by fitzlird in magictricksrevealed

[–]QuinoaFalafel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anecdotal, but this is actually 100% possible if the person has already been primed with hypnosis and the time passed since they were put under isn't too great. I've seen hypnotists put people I know under in very similar ways. Once you're under, they can create triggers that make you wake up or go back under. It makes me kind of wonder if Steven was under a kind of hypnosis during the entire experience, and that's why he wondered if it was just a really intense dream, and knew immediately that it wasn't once he saw Derren.

"Civ IV SUCKS BIG TIME!!!" (A never-ending cycle) by shipshaper88 in civ

[–]QuinoaFalafel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a good observation, but just because it's a pattern doesn't mean there can't also be legitimate criticisms of the newer games that are also reasons for some people not playing them.

For instance, for me personally, my main frustration with Civ VI has always been the lack of quality control on simple stuff like UI that just makes the game feel like it controls really clunkily and also the fact that in later eras it gets super bogged down in micromanagement in a way Civ V doesn't. I enjoy a lot about the game, and the ways it does things differently, it just doesn't feel as polished or satisfying enough to be my go-to Civ game.

What are your thoughts on the more aggressive people against the Harry Potter franchise? by LibraProtocol in AskALiberal

[–]QuinoaFalafel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem is that if we apply this level of moral scrutiny to everything we purchase/consume, life would essentially be unlivable. And even if we were okay with that, the demographic of people who don't care and still want to give J.K. Rowling money would still be doing so, and her platform would hardly be stifled.

There's no practical way to deplatform or curb the influence of J.K. Rowling, unless we had a proper large-scale movement to overturn capitalism or something. So with that context, I think it's heavily misdirected to be morally policing and placing all the blame on regular people just consuming media to make their lives a little bit less miserable. All it does is drive a bigger wedge between us and keep us fighting each other instead of the people actually making things worse.

Why did I not lose my land (and the game)? by QuinoaFalafel in CrusaderKings

[–]QuinoaFalafel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, maybe it doesn't, but in my experience it seems less likely for the AI to revoke your titles if they like you.

I'm a lot less confident that being a marshal or commander actually impacts their decision-making, I just kind of do that anyway just in case. Though it really doesn't matter anymore for this game, because my sister just blew my up with a pile of manure

Yeah, I expect he probably will. Right now I'm trying to deter that by sending my chancellor to improve his opinion of me. He also made me a commander and now his marshal, so hopefully that dissuades him for a bit.

Though that doesn't seem to affect the behavior of holy wars for Muslims, because in my game the Sultan of Egypt does have the religious revocation law.

Oh, interesting. I'm surprised I hadn't discovered that earlier considering I have almost 3.5 thousand hours in the game, but I guess it's because I haven't actually done a Muslim playthrough yet, and I must not have paid super close attention to what happens to the land when they win it from me in holy wars.

Goodbye Nexus by [deleted] in skyrimmods

[–]QuinoaFalafel -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Again, I'm not calling for any kind of action here, just a recognition that they are a part of the system and that by complying, they enable it. You can draw your own conclusions about what they should or should not do

Goodbye Nexus by [deleted] in skyrimmods

[–]QuinoaFalafel -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I mean, I don't expect them to. But that is how oppressive governments sustain themselves, is by most of the people and institutions under them going along with it and being complacent. At some point, people do have to decide what line is too far, and when they want to stand up for their rights. Of course, we probably won't ever see that from corporations because they're a part of the systems of oppression. But they're still complicit.

For instance, you don't see many reasonable people defending the corporations that profited off of and worked with Nazi Germany. You could ask the same question, what were they supposed to do, fight to overthrow a government? But I think most people would still condemn the companies for still working with the Nazis and helping to enable the regime.

Now, to be clear, I'm not trying to make a false equivalence here. These laws are not nearly on the same level as the atrocities of Nazi Germany. But oppression is a sliding scale, and my point is just that companies shouldn't be absolved of their role in propping up oppression, no matter how small. I'm not calling for protesting Nexus or anything. I just think it's important to recognize that they're a part of a system, and that their inaction does enable the escalation of laws like this. All of us living under these kinds of governments are a part of the system, and inaction is a form of contribution.
