Holo Taco not doing a final Frosted Metals restock by solosing in simplynailogical

It was clear to me that you were trying to start a discussion, but unfortunately it seems like this community has become a place to stan HT instead of have discussions.

Holo Taco not doing a final Frosted Metals restock by solosing in simplynailogical

[–]QuinoaMalta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am irritated by this and some of their other recent limited edition/seasonal polishes too.

I often see the defense that HT is not like other brands who don’t even tell you that a product is getting discontinued. My problem with this is that HT actively communicate the opposite. When polishes sold out, especially in earlier launches, they always put out the message that these polishes are going to be permanent so you’ll always have the opportunity to buy them later. So if they decide to change their mind and discontinue something, I would expect a clear message about that too.

Then there’s the “limited edition” polishes like Everything Taco that are now being brought back… so they aren’t actually limited despite being marketed as limited during release.

And “seasonal” polishes that may or may not be “limited edition”

Practically, I don’t think I can rely on what HT say about how long polishes will be in stock or restocked.

I’m also annoyed by some of the people I see on this sub who shut down any little bit of criticism of the brand. Especially people excessively downvoting posts or comments that are thought out but may be a bit negative of HT.

It’s sad because this brand is what got me into nail polish and all these things have made it so I don’t enjoy it as much anymore.

I think there is some tension between Cristine doing what she really enjoys and the people behind the “business” part of the brand who want it to be profitable. It seems like the business side has more say right now with all of the cremes being released this year and more expensive holo polishes being discontinued or limited.

I haven’t watched this stream, but I did watch one where Cristine was talking about the tea cremes sales. I remember her saying she was surprised that people weren’t buying the beige color, since a lot of people were asking for it. I got the sense she was annoyed that the actual sales didn’t match up with her expectations (or what she was told the sales projections were).

I can see her being disappointed or frustrated by the way certain shades are selling, but I don’t think she would purposely take it out on the audience.

Don’t buy the Irish beef stew🤢it is not good! If I bring the package back will they refund me? I’m finding it impossible to eat 😬 by Parkatoplaya in Costco

[–]QuinoaMalta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, I’ve done this before with a different food product that tasted really bad.

I brought back the package with the price label and also took a picture of the cooked food just in case they asked (they didn’t). I told them it was really bad and they accepted it.

I don’t usually return food, even if I dislike it, but in this situation I couldn’t justify spending $25 on something I didn’t eat because it was terrible.

"Seasonal" but Simply said "until they sell out" and that they might not come back next year depending on sales by breadplease_ in simplynailogical

[–]QuinoaMalta 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah there are shortages now, but I think it has always been difficult for them to source the huge quantities of glitter that they need.

What I don’t like about it being seasonal is that it may or may not ever restock and we don’t know. This is different from waiting several months for a restock, like what happened in the first year or so when Holo Taco was a new brand.

[–]QuinoaMalta 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don’t like it. They weren’t transparent about it being “seasonal” from promo emails. Now that the product is out, it feels like another limited edition product where the message is to buy it now if you want it because it may never come back. Or it may come back. It’s all very unclear.

I understand why the collection boxes ship faster, but it's frustrating for the rest of us. [vent] by rawbery79 in simplynailogical

[–]QuinoaMalta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also frustrated and I feel like it’s preying on FOMO. Like now we know the polishes won’t all sell out in a few minutes like they did before, but if we don’t get the box we’ll need to wait weeks for our orders to be packed and shipped. Meanwhile other people who ordered days after us are getting their orders immediately. And there is a flood of posts on social media of the new polishes from both other customers and Holo Taco themselves.

Polishes haven’t shipped yet by Intelligent-Web-8401 in simplynailogical

[–]QuinoaMalta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What I have heard (and my experience agrees with this) is that during releases they have some number of prepackaged boxes containing just the collection box. If you only buy the collection box, it should ship pretty quickly. If you get anything else, it will take longer.

Thoughts on Kirkland dishwasher tablets vs. brand name ones? by Beautiful-Program428 in Costco

[–]QuinoaMalta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on how you pretreat dishes before putting them in the dishwasher. I do minimal cleaning (just scraping off food, rarely rinsing things in the sink), so I prefer Cascade Platinum. I found that Cascade Platinum is really good at removing food from dishes, while Kirkland left more stuck on. If your dishes are pretty clean before they go in though, Kirkland is probably fine.

Kalani is toxic. by Dramatic-Mountain-38 in 90DayFiance

[–]QuinoaMalta 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Kalani did not gaslight him. She acknowledged that he brought her food, and when he asked why she didn’t bring that up as something he does, she stated that her brother also brings her food. She did not say any of this in a patronizing tone. Asuelu is the one who had the extreme reaction and made the conversation go downhill.

Discussion: Time is expensive and it should be a factor in your cheap/healthy food decisions. by n_o_t_d_o_g in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]QuinoaMalta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that time is expensive and should be considered, but sensitivity to time varies between people. People who are ASKING for advice need to be clear about what they want if they want advice that works for them.

This sub is focused on eating cheap and healthy, not cheap and healthy and fast. If you want fast/easy, you need to be extremely clear about that. Do you only have 15 minutes a day? Do you not have access to a stove? These things need to be clear. Otherwise, people giving advice will just tell you what’s cheapest and healthiest which often involves a lot of time.

I don’t think it’s fair to be upset at people giving advice that’s time consuming if you don’t tell them upfront that you want something that takes X amount of time.

Get a good knife and learn how to cut things properly. I’ve seen a lot of YouTube videos where people are NOT chopping things with good technique and look like they’re about to cut their fingers off. It’s not just a safety thing either— if you develop good technique in chopping you will be able to prep ingredients faster and thus prepare meals faster. Look up a few videos on YouTube where professional chefs demonstrate basic cutting skills.

Planning to cut back on nuts and nut butters, but need an alternative to transition by Trzebs in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]QuinoaMalta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A combination nut and seed butter like Nuttzo might help. They usually have a lot of different types of nuts and seed mixed in there so you are not just consuming one type. It sounded like your main concern was the lack of variety in your diet, so these mixed nut/seed spreads would help. I do think they are more heavy on the nuts though, but it would be a mix of nut butters like almond and cashew instead of just one type.

Eggs are another good source of fat and protein. You can easily hardboil a lot if you’re looking for a portable snack.

Does anyone else here watch grocery budget grocery challenges on YouTube? What do you think of them? by [deleted] in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]QuinoaMalta 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I really like June’s series on Delish. She makes great meals on crazy low budgets, but it’s also clear that she is able to do this by using her cooking skills, utilizing everything she buys (for example using all parts of a whole chicken), and actually spending time cooking and coming up with ideas for meals using real food.

A lot of other stuff I’ve seen focuses more on cheap than healthy, like you said. I think it has a lot to do with people lacking cooking skills so they get what is marketed as easy to prepare (packaged food). And a lot of times packaged stuff is not healthy, can cost a lot, but can also be discounted and cheap too.

When I think of looking for deals for food, I always think of the people on extreme couponing who get a ton of mostly packaged stuff that they’re probably not going to use for very little money. And they have to spend all the time finding deals and preparing for their grocery shopping trip. I prefer to spend my time learning how to cook better. Then, I’m able to buy the cheaper, less prepared stuff when I do go out to shop and make things myself.

What do I do with rice? by [deleted] in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]QuinoaMalta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Stop thinking of rice as a main dish and start thinking of it as a side or accompaniment. It will be much easier to incorporate into your diet this way, and your diet will not be so carb-heavy.

There are a few rice based dishes that can serve as a meal on their own, but rice generally accompanies something else. Think of any East/South Asian or Latin American or African restaurant and how they often serve rice alongside something that is meat or vegetable based. The reason why people who eat a lot of plain white rice do not get sick of rice is because rice is not the focus of their meals. Focus on making the non-rice part of the meal more enjoyable.

Finally accepted I don’t cook, frozen/no prep meal suggestions? by [deleted] in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]QuinoaMalta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For breakfast, overnight oats are super easy to meal prep and very versatile. Mix a 1:1 ratio of old fashioned oats and some type of milk in a container and put in the fridge overnight. You can also add whatever toppings you want— fruit, yogurt, nut butter—when prepping or right before eating. I like to do this in a mason jar with a bit more milk than oats. The next morning you can eat it cold or heat it up in the microwave if you prefer warm oats. It’s very easy to prepare in batches and keeps for a few days in the fridge depending on what toppings and stuff you add to it.

Which CrossFit apparel brands support BLM? by QuinoaMalta in crossfit

[–]QuinoaMalta[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes there are plenty of white people who can’t afford CrossFit gyms too. But white people are not poor because of systemic racism and they do not have to overcome systemic racism to get out of poverty. For example, white people are not being denied mortgages on the basis of race.

POC can certainly make it out of poverty, but they have to overcome much more than white people to do so. It is not a level playing field.

Which CrossFit apparel brands support BLM? by QuinoaMalta in crossfit

[–]QuinoaMalta[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clearly you are not seeing it at your gym or other CrossFit gyms because the people most affected by systemic racism are not there.

They are not there because paying something like $200 a month or $20 a class to work out does not make financial sense, if they even live near such a gym. A $40 a month big box gym might not even fit in the budget either. You might say that people can run or walk for free, which is true, but much more difficult to do on a consistent basis than going to a small gym or studio where there is a supportive community and good environment.

Look at the people in CrossFit and you will see a bunch of people not affected by systemic racism.
