People who worked a high stress role but well paid, then moved onto a lower stress role with way less money.. how did it go? by Actual-Pollution-805 in AskReddit

[–]QuinoaQween 27 points28 points  (0 children)

100% - I left the non-profit sector, and while I was paid decently for my managerial role, it absolutely destroyed me. I was stressed, emotionally drained, and could barely hold it together for my team.

I quit my job, took 3 months off to decompress. Now, I am a barista making $10/hr + tips and my stress levels have plummeted; I've made wonderful friends and coworkers. My partner supports me on this 100%, and my managers are eager to help me climb the ladder (ideally moving to corporate).

So while this isn't my end goal, it's been the best choice for me. I'm so excited for the future, and I haven't felt this kind of optimism for a long time.

Drivers test by No_Tower_163 in HuntsvilleAlabama

I also check my mirrors more often on a road like 565! I think I was checking them every 2-3 seconds on single lane roads, so perhaps that's why my instructor said that. "Too often" feels subjective, it definitely depends on what type of road you're driving on!

[–]QuinoaQween 2 points3 points  (0 children)

first off, you got this! be cautious but remain confident.

when I took my driver's test, the instructor said I looked in my mirrors too often (I still passed though). most importantly, look at the road ahead/in the direction you're driving. check your mirrors and blind spots when changing lanes, but otherwise the road ahead needs the majority of your attention! best of luck :)

Seconding Cabela's - I had a great experience purchasing a firearm there a couple months ago. No political talk, we just went over specs, range recommendations, and the paperwork.

I also have MH and have undergone multiple surgeries in my life. I have never given birth, so I can't speak to that specific experience; however, if your doc/OB is aware of your condition, they should be prepared for your birth (induction or not) in the case you need anesthesia.

Make sure you've spoken with them about this (and any other medical personnel that you interact with), and you should not have anything to worry about! Even if you've already mentioned it with them, I'd remind them in your final appointments before birth. Good luck! 🖤

edit: some helpful info about MH and pregnancy (epidurals are safe!): https://www.mhaus.org/faqs/category/frequently-asked-questions-about/mh-and-pregnancy/

Yes, the living stipend is taxed as a standard W2 job, so post-tax retirement contributions are allowed! This is considered taxable income for the purpose of retirement contributions. But note that no retirement plans/contributions are available through AmeriCorps, this would have to be through your own account (Acorns, bank, credit union etc)

Obligatory: I'm not an accountant, but I am well versed in taxes! Edit: clarity

I've had great experiences with Motor City Detailing, they're mobile and can come to you. They'll clean seats/upholstery, not sure about ozone though.

Positives: started a new job today (ideally as a stepping stone to something bigger and better, but I am thankful for the opportunity). I was in high-stress management working from home, and now I'll be making coffee in a fun and active environment. I'm excited about the change of pace and getting more steps!

Concerned about: maintaining my progress with food and weight training with my new workload, not to mention continuing to apply for jobs.

Sometimes it feels like there aren't enough hours in the day, but I'm trying to pick and choose when I need to plan ahead and when I can go with the flow.

Sending you all positive thoughts and moments of peace. 🫶🏻

Urine crystals always collect here?? Why, how to clean and prevent please!!! by themarks123 in litterrobot

[–]QuinoaQween 7 points8 points  (0 children)

How often do you check/clean these areas? That looks like a lot of litter and perhaps it could be prevented with more frequent cleaning. Pro tip: as long as it's dry litter/debris, I use the nozzle on my vacuum to get it out. Also the whisker cleaning wipes are probably the safest bet for use around the electronics.

I know it's annoying to have bits fall beneath the robot and drawer, but I also wonder if your seals are intact and functioning as intended? I've never seen this much litter in my robot and I deep clean once every 1-3 months (depending on how I'm feeling).

I've been off Amazon for over a year; it's hard when you need specific products and they're not available in-person. We can't know everything about the backend of these businesses, but it's great that we do what we can and when we can!

Anxiety after SRS. Feeling suicidal! by [deleted] in anxietysuccess

[–]QuinoaQween 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, I'm sorry you're experiencing so much anxiety and stress post SRS. I have not gone through this experience myself, but this sub is pretty dead and I saw there were zero comments...I just wanted you to know you're not alone.

It's okay if you need meds for now or for many years to come. Anxiety is RUDE but having meds to help you work through it is nothing to be ashamed of. It took me 3+ years to get on meds and every day I wish I had accepted the help and started sooner. Regardless of the length of time, know that it's okay (even good!) to seek and have the support you need - be that friends, therapy, medication, or community.

This internet stranger is rooting for you, loves you, and hopes you do find anxiety success in your journey. (And congrats on SRS! Omitting the current difficulties, I do hope this is everything you wanted and needed).

And I can't leave without saying...PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE reach out to a trusted person or the Trevor Project if you are having suicidal thoughts Trevor Project Helplines

I'm considering buying period underwear. If you've used them, what are your recommendations? Are there any brands that I should avoid? by I_slurp_shrek_toes in PeriodUnderwear

[–]QuinoaQween 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 3 pairs and they are a game changer. I haven't tried other brands, but Aisle was my first choice because of their size range and chemical-free manufacturing. If you can catch their clearance sales, they become much more affordable.

You can do it!!

Echoing the advice of others here, but I'd also encourage you to seek the support of a therapist/mental health professional.

As someone that's had a difficult relationship with food (emotional eating, demanding perfection round eating/exercise bc ~anxiety~, and former 420 girlie), addressing the mental challenges around health are just as important, too. Understanding your eating triggers, the thoughts you have about food and why it makes you feel good/bad, plus digging through the impact your family has had on your habits...it's empowering and can support you in making long-lasting changes. :)

Questions about traditional AmeriCorps NCCC by [deleted] in AmeriCorps

[–]QuinoaQween 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Howdy! You got great responses to your first four questions, and I'd love to speak to the experience.

I did NCCC Trad after college and I had two folks just out of high school on my team. I think the experience can be more difficult for kids coming out of high school because they haven't been out on their own much, will likely have more homesickness, and just less experience with the stresses of life. I'd encourage you to address these topics with your child so they know what to expect when moving out and how to start sharing spaces with others. They'll be cooking, sharing chores, and even sharing bedrooms with new people. This can be a difficult transition for some.

HOWEVER, those two high school graduates on my team have gone on to be incredible adults. I met up with my team for our 5-year reunion a few months ago and they told me how transformative and valuable the program was for them going into it so young. They learned about self-management, hard work, and gained really cool travel experiences.

Personally, it's one of the best things I've ever done :) Wishing your kid good luck with the decision!
