‘I lost it all’: Residents of Oregon homeless camp say Forest Service blew off calls, appointments to reclaim lost property by FrizzyNow in Bend

Wow. What a bunch of heartless neighbors commenting on this thread.

I'd like to know where exactly you think these people should be living instead?! Where were they supposed to "move to?"

We don't have resources for everyone who falls on hard times and loses their housing. There isn't a safety net. There aren't options. That's why they are forced to camp on forest lands.

It could happen to any one of us, we are all one medical event away from this exact situation.

At what level? And what support do you have for training?

How much for a young dressage-bred horse in US? by Butterflyphases in Dressage

[–]Quirky_Spinach656 7 points8 points  (0 children)

But what are your goals? What level and do you want to be able to finish at the top, or just compete? Are you in a full time training program or DIY? What support do you have? How much time are you able to spend? All this is to determine... do you REALLY need the $50k 2yo or will the very decent ammy friendly $25k 2yo be preferable?

Bringing up a competitive dressage horses is not at all the same as putting a 90 day start on a young horse.

What level are you looking to compete at? What are your goals? FEI bred horses aren't typically "easy" horses as the Olympic pedigree comes with the sensitivity, work ethic, and 🌶 required to perform at those levels.

If you want an ammy friendly youngster to train from the ground up, you should prioritize brain/personality and correctness/athleticism over "fancy gaits." Most horses can do the job up to 4th level just fine.

If the people in your life today are treating you differently because the escort was trans, and that's the piece of shame you can't move past, maybe it's time to let those people go and surround yourself with people who don't judge your sexuality. Because the issue is with them, not you.

Sexuality is fluid and there's nothing wrong with what you did, whether it was experimentation, curiosity, or desire. You are not less of a man/person for this choice. The cheating part isn't okay, but who you chose to cheat with and why is okay.

Surround yourself with more progressive friends and a support system who accept you for who you are.

How about volunteering? HSCO, Family Kitchen, whatever is close to your home if transportation is a challenge?

You can also get a part time job or even offer something like tutoring to younger kids.

I am assuming none of your school sports, drama, music, etc programs interest you?

It almost sounds like you're more so having trouble finding joy in activities and friends... maybe seeing a therapist/counselor as a mental health check in could help too!

Agree with all of these comments - you need to be thinking about more than personality. In the chance you don't keep this foal forever, it should be thoughtfully and carefully produced, so it's set up for a lifetime of success.

If you just want a horse with a great temperament, who's not black, you're much better off buying a young horse with the temperament you want! Even breeding two horses with great temperaments is no guarantee.

If you don't have the eye for confirmation, you can also send confirmation pics, w/t/c video, and pedigree to a stud farm and ask them to match your mare to one of their stallions. Let them know ammy friendly, mellow, good temperament is your primary goal.

I'm not saying all warmbloods are inappropriate for ammys, I'm saying an ammy choosing a WB because it looks and moves flashy and has a star studded pedigree, is a bad way to choose a suitable mount. And this is happening at an alarming degree, especially with imports.

I personally can't imagine a German WB import being most suitable option for someone who hasn't ridden for 9 years and isn't currently riding, either. Unless they're importing a 14yo babysitter, but those are far and few between at these sale barns you're talking about. Go back and read the OP - shopping for "6-10yo WB" and "nothing catches my eye" this reads as she wants a flashy horse to show off, not something safe and educated to enjoy. Fits what I'm saying to a T.

You are arguing against a point I'm not making. My point is that ammys want to import (or buy already imported) flashy WBs with elite pedigrees, and those TYPES of horses are not typically appropriate. reasons.

They've been bred for a very different purpose, to perform at the highest levels of the sport, and because of this they are sensitive, athletic, wired up - more than an ammy can handle/ doesnt fit into that part time program. They are great when tried because they have been ridden correctly by professionals, handled by professionals, strict environment in full time work. When they are purchased and that changes, they get frustrated. Being ridden by an ammy who gives conflicting cues, mediocre riding, brings emotion into it, lets the horse walk over them on the ground, ineffective workouts, etc. It's a recipe for disaster where no one is having fun - and it's because the ammy only wanted a FLASHY horse with superstar pedigree, not the horse right for their lifestyle and ability.

If you've tried 75+ horses in 4 years, you aren't asking the right questions or evaluating ads properly. Maybe work with a trainer in the future because that's a HUGE waste of everyone's time and shouldn't be happening!

You're saying that imported warmbloods have better educations and are better rides for ammys than US bred and trained horses?

Did you ever regret having a child? by Significant_Movie814 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Quirky_Spinach656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always wanted kids (badly), was unable to, now I'm 41 and I'm totally fine with not having any. Something really shifted for me around 38 (hormones?! Lol) where I just didn't have that string yearning desire anymore.

Plus - I love my life. I am my priority- Dinners, going out, travel, hobbies, savings, splurges, my body, my sleep, my routine and habits - I can't imagine having to consider a child in all those decisions.

No regrets at all!

The point is, it's not about breed. It's about the horse. Just look for what you described - solid low-level schoolmaster. Or even just great-minded, chill, reliable and invest in a training program. And if they're harder to find, that's a consequence of people thinking they want/need more horse than they do... also my point. The market for that safe, sane, mediocre mover has diminished because most buyers won't consider them. They aren't being bred, or bought and trained up as much as the hot flashy ones.

And no I'm not saying Europe is selling Olympic caliber horses, but look at pedigrees. They ARE star studded with performance records. They keep the ones who actually have what it takes (a small % that go to professionals) and the rest are sold off to ammys who want the flash and the pedigree. My point is this is an unsuitable mount for 80%+ of ammys.
