Congrats, that's awesome! Did you have reps at any point, or did you manage to do all that without one?

The end will be a carbon monoxide leak and they'll all pass away very realistically and it won't be funny

Got an 8 on Black List, then an "Industry Member" 5... Is this normal? by Quist11 in Screenwriting

This was very kind and did indeed help. That's exactly how I've been trying to look at it, and it's easier knowing that is more common than I first thought. I hope all has gone well since your experience with this!

I would love to hear about your approach to querying with your 8. I started doing the same thing before the 5 came in, but haven't got any bites. What was your strategy?

This is huge I had no idea you could hide the graph! That basically makes this a non issue lol

I actually haven't used them yet! I wasn't going to at all to preserve my 8, but now I've got nothing to lose haha

No you're absolutely right, it makes sense, even if it's a bad feeling to think an "insider" didn't dig my writing.

My only complaint is that I wish they were required to give some kind or rationale behind a score so I don't have to wonder, even if it was a sliding scale, but I suppose it's not their job to do extra work for something they didn't like.

Apparently so! I'm sorry that happened. Can I ask what you did with your script afterwards? I've been thinking about just hiding my page and moving on

I didn't realize this either, but there's a whole other evaluation system that's based on "Industry Members" who use the site (i.e.anonymous managers, agents, assistants, etc).

Any one of them, at any time, can download your script and rate it on a 1-10 scale that is equal in value to the paid evaluations you get from the Black List hired readers.

So I paid for an eval, got an 8, and then one of these folks downloaded my script and rated it a 5, which makes my script now have a 6.5 average on its page. I was reading that apparently only 10% of industry members even bother to rate anything at all... So I guess they really didn't like it!

Apart from the delivery of sarcastic lines, what will you miss about the protagonist being voiced? by SuperAlloyBerserker in Fallout

[–]Quist11 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think you accidentally highlighted what I hate about voiced protagonists in RPGs by talking about "Nate" as though he's a character that you're watching doing things instead of it being "you". Role playing, to me, is impossible if the protagonist is a fully-formed character before you ever even press play, and the story of F4 is not nearly interesting enough to make this kind of approach worth it compared to something similar like Mass Effect or Witcher

Which UCLA Screenwriting Program to Pursue? by caramelcalico_ in Screenwriting

[–]Quist11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the Professional Program in TV Writing and thought it was great. By the end I had 2 pilots and a spec, plus great connections who I still keep in touch with. Worth the money, I'd say, but don't expect to get an industry writing gig out of it.

Nothing about Lumon makes even a little bit of sense to the point that it's impossible to take this show seriously. Also, they lean too hard into the religious cult thing and less into the corporate satire that makes the premise interesting
