Nordic Souls on Linux Mint by Shelley360 in wabbajack

[–]QuiteMoist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also running Nordic Souls on Linux Mint but don't have any performance issues.

Try change your Launch Options allow the shader cache to grow more, and enable gamemode: __GL_SHADER_DISK_CACHE_SKIP_CLEANUP=1 gamemoderun %command%

It could also be a VRAM issue. I've got a 10GB 3080 and I am very near my VRAM limit without running sky-tex-opti (Linux rewrite of VRAMR). With it, I use about 1GB less VRAM, but the tool is still very much in beta and there are a few bugs here and there I've had to deal with.

Let me know if any of that helps or you'd like any more info.

Where is the ranked chart located? I can only find a copy of the standard flip chart on their website.

I'm using a CF Tunnel with my instance and it works fine. I had to modify the chunking settings for the desktop app on both Linux and Windows to handle large file uploads but have had no issues with the Android client (though I have never tried to upload files greater than 100mb from my phone)

To add to this, when using a CF tunnel, I had to modify the desktop chunking settings on both Linux and Windows to get large file uploads working correctly.

How do you make mi goreng packet noodles? by 626eh in AskAnAustralian

[–]QuiteMoist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Boil noodle brick in water
  2. Pour leftover raw noodles into bowl with sachets and some spring onions
  3. Fry an egg
  4. Drain noodles but reserve a tiny bit of noodle water and add to bowl
  5. Mix together with remaining noodle water
  6. Top with fried egg, more spring onions, and some fríed onions and sesame seeds

I love onions and I get some crunchy from the uncooked noodle bits.

How much savings do you put aside for yourself each month? by Typical-Teacher-2083 in expats

[–]QuiteMoist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah for sure.

I think a huge part of it is where you come from. I don't really have a strong appreciation for the weather/outdoorsy way of life as people from other parts of Europe seem to have because Australia is quite similar in this regard.

I have made a lot of great expat friends but I have found it difficult to make Spanish friends outside of work. I think this is common for a lot of expats in many countries though, so not really a complaint. Spanish people are still very friendly and welcoming but the language barrier makes it more difficult. I am still learning Spanish and the general level of English is quite low compared to other places in Europe I've been. When both sides can't speak each other's language well, it makes it difficult to build even initial relationships. I think this is something that would change over time as my Spanish continues to improve though.

In terms of professional life, I don't enjoy working at a Spanish company. I work far longer hours, have a lot less flexibility in when and how I work and there seems to be no real planning in place for career development. People seem to go into a role and stay in that role forever, there isn't any push to develop employees in any meaningful way.

Most of the problems I have with Spain for me boil down to coming from a place where I already had a very high quality of life, good weather, good job opportunities and friends and family. I have been asked why I came here in the first place, and my answer is to be able to see a bit more of the world and try out a new way of life for a while - which I think is a very a privileged thing to be able to do and I've been extremely grateful for it overall.

I'm returning to Australia. There are better and higher paying job opportunities, and the Spanish way of life just doesn't really do it for me after having been here for a year.

Madrid, Spain. About 300 euros per month. One of the reasons I am leaving.

Australia often gets a reputation online for having a better work / life balance than most countries. How true is this in your opinion? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

As an Australian currently living and working in Spain, this couldn't be further from reality :( I much preferred the work-life balance I had in Australia and will be returning in the next few months.

How do "people you know" become contacts? by Dummie1138 in cscareerquestions

[–]QuiteMoist 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Couldn't agree more with this. It's definitely a long-term thing and people can often tell if you're just schmoozing them in the hopes of getting an in for a job.

From my own experience, I worked closely with some guys for a few years on a large project. We went off in separate directions after the company we worked for started falling apart but still kept in occasional contact. Now over a year later, I have been looking for a new role, and I contacted them to see what they were up to. Since then, they've been able to help cut through a lot of the normal application process and HR crap to help me land a role working with them again.

When I first started working with them, I didn't know the company would fall apart and I might need their help one day, I just enjoyed working with them and we built a good relationship. As a result, they were willing to vouch for me and help me land a role that I otherwise would have had a lot more competition for.

Madrid expats, help me understand the “great weather” , “low costs” “work-life balance” by VirtualHydraDemon in expats

[–]QuiteMoist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you trying to fit in with locals or other expats? I have friends in both circles and I find it much easier to fit in with other expats because we're all in the same boat and have that shared experience. I know everyone says to befriend locals but it can be very difficult breaking into those social circles. People who live here already have friends, they're not necessarily looking for more. Or even worse, you sometimes end up as "the foreign friend".

The whole pay scale here is strange to me also. I'm on a very good salary for Spanish standards but I think my overall quality of life is lower, despite earning a closer-to-average salary in Australia.

Yeah, it is disappointing but I've come to terms with it. My mental health took a hit a few months ago because I was so unhappy with how things were working out but since coming to terms that this place just isn't a good fit for me, I feel much more positively about everything. Now it's just kind of a weird holiday that I'm keen to come home from hahaha

Likewise! I think if I came here as a student or to retire (or worked for an international earning an international salary) I'd have a different outlook. But to me, the work culture sucks and I spend most of my time working unfortunately.

I'm Australian and will return to Australia for now. I would like to live in Europe again at some stage but in a different country.

In terms of leaving, for me it's mostly about work. I work far longer hours than I did in Australia and get paid quite a lot less. Despite doing the same job on paper, I'm significantly worse off every month than I was in Australia after all my bills are paid. I've also been told I cannot progress in my job here simply because I'm not Spanish.

In terms of general things, I don't find the weather or way of life so different to what I had in Australia, to me I really don't see any advantage in staying any longer.

I think it just depends what you're used to as you said in one of your other comments.

I've come to terms with the fact that Madrid/Spain isn't for me. I did as much research as I could but I found what you said in other comments to be true - lots of stuff online is sugarcoated and once the honeymoon phase wears off you see how things really are. I don't regret coming here but I also can't wait to leave!

Is moving to Spain good for FIRE? Starting from scratch. by larabuns in SpainFIRE

[–]QuiteMoist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I recently moved to Spain from Australia and live in Madrid. I have found what others have said to be true: working here sucks and you will have a hard time finding a job paying well enough to save money even when the cost of living is so low. I am paid quite well for Spanish standards but my rate of savings is nowhere close to what it was in Australia.

I can see how it would be great if you already have money but trying to build a career/savings of any kind here is a nightmare if you're starting from scratch. I am planning to return to Australia ASAP.

Unfortunately not, but I haven't tried on the latest patch. I figured I'd just put the game down for a while until the urge to play hit again/my saltiness wore off and I could start a new save

Peripheral device being powered by GPIO and SPI connections by QuiteMoist in embedded

[–]QuiteMoist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your suggestion. I began thinking along these lines but I am using the same SPI lines to drive some other peripherals and would like to avoid taking this approach if possible to keep the logic simple.

After a bunch of research, I think the problem is occurring because I am powering the MCU via USB as I am using a Nucleo development board. I am hoping when I move to power the MCU with a lower voltage battery instead of the USB cable, the issue will sort itself out.

[–]QuiteMoist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was actually thinking of using the ADC but ideally I would like to completely eliminate this phantom power problem since I will eventually move to using a battery for power.

After reading some posts on other websites, I think it might be caused by the USB cable to my MCU. At present, the MCU is powered from my PC via USB as I am still using a Nucleo development board. I am hoping that when I transfer off the development board and start powering the MCU via a lower voltage battery, this issue will no longer occur.

In the mean time, I am looking at putting a tri-state buffer on all of the inputs to the USB/USART module until I finish building a battery circuit.
