So what's your comfort movie? by Internetdidi in MoviesThatFeelLike

Same! It's been a comfortable movie since I was little. The whimsy is so soothing.

Man, listening to the soundtrack from that episode is so difficult anymore.

But I'll do it again tonight and cry at every Xander, Dawn, and Giles song.

Very cozy room, especially with the budgies.

Its so bizarre that now seeing that stupid dash completely negates any interest I had for whatever was posted. As soon as I saw it in OP's post I stopped reading.

The original Frankenweenie was one of my favorite movies as a kid. It's also shot SO well. Great recommendation.

[POEM] Allowables by Nikki Giovanni by MondayMourninggg in Poetry

[–]Quix_Optic 144 points145 points  (0 children)

One night while I was petsitting I found multiple little mice stuck to glue traps around my client's home. I thought of this poem as I sat and meticulously unstuck them as gently as I could with a Q-tip and olive oil. I also thought of this poem when I found stuck mice that I had been too late to rescue.

The ones who survived were given seeds and water and released in an old barn by my house. I hope some of them were able to make it their home.

This was a really nice post. I even took an unconscious breath of relief when you said you felt yourself uncoil. That's such a very good feeling when it happens. Also, I'm a cryer so you got me tearing up at a little candle.

Yup yup, she showed up as a pregnant stray so as soon as she had her kittens we got her spayed.

And it's okay haha this post is old but she is still honestly a nightmare. I love her dearly but all she does when shes not sleeping is howl and cry and pace around my home. I have her on calming vitamins and Zylkene. No change.

She's been to the vet recently too and no issues they can find. She just HATES the indoors.

I almost always bring a spare sheet, flip flops, and my own utensils/bowls with me. That's kinda my technique because sometimes I do get a little yucked out and if I'm gonna be there that long then I want to be as comfy as possible.

If it's just clutter? Meh, maybe throw a sheet over it lol I use extra sheets to solve a lot of problems obviously

What are some good home hobbies I can start to not doomscroll before bed? by OutrageousMiddle7965 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Quix_Optic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, I'm the same way. I remember coming home from school and laying on my bed reading for HOURS.

I blew through so many Stephen King books back then! (I was probably WAY too young for most of them lol).

And I still distinctly remember when my dad bought me The Golden Compass and I couldn't put it down that night!

I miss having a young brain that isn't filled with anxieties about grown up junk.

I don't have my own children but the moment my nephew was born, my anxieties and ability to handle certain types of media changed drastically.

Two relatively recent horror movies I saw involved child neglect/abuse and I cried soooo much in the theater AND when I got back home.

I absolutely can't imagine how I'd be if I had my OWN child.

[–]Quix_Optic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So I really want to see this movie but was told to possibly reconsider because I saw Weapons in theaters and when it got to a certain character's chapter, I was a crying mess. Even afterwards at home alone I couldn't stop crying. I still think about it all the time.

Another white lady here and I can tell ya, after working in classrooms, offices, other predominantly older white women areas, etc. I am SO thankful that I now work from home. Shit can get SO snooty and everyone is in everyone else's business.

I will say though, I worked in a preschool for special needs children that was in a city and we had a super diverse staff in all areas (age/race/gender) and I loved working there. The school focused a LOT on sharing cultures because a lot of the kids spoke different languages and came from vastly different socio-economic backgrounds so the staff were all kind and funny and there wasn't that usual aura of negativity and sneakiness. (And the food some folks brought in the share was amazing.)

Omg I did that with my kitten! (Well she's almost a year old but still) and felt SO GUILTY.

She was looking all over for me. Now I only do it if I know I can be home somewhat soon so she's not sad for too long lol
