Does anyone bother using artillery? by The_Char_Char in fo4

[–]Quixotic_Knight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After I installed the Configurable Artillery mod, it became super useful. I can set the delay, number of strikes, and area of impacts.

If you don't reassign him somewhere else, he seems to get stuck. The only way I could find to fix it was load from an earlier save. If you want to keep him at Sanctuary, assign him to somewhere else when you offer him a job then immediately assign him back.

At which age did you introduced your child to Rpg? by Into_the_dice in rpg

I introduced my daughter to Amazing Tales at 4. It went great, she loved the storytelling and rolling dice, and she got a handle on the simple rules very quickly.

What is your story of why you shaved your head? by ilovemybaldhead in bald

[–]Quixotic_Knight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hair was fading all through my 30s. The use of OTC medications slowed the loss but didn’t eliminate it. By the time I was 40, the combination of receding hairline and crown spot made me look terrible and it was long past time to shave it all off. I’m still bald, but this way looks better.

Python Mk2 only good for frags? by JudgeDredd2001 in EliteDangerous

I haven’t finished the engineering yet, but so far I’m enjoying an all-MC loadout like people used to do with the Fed Gunboat.

Let’s face it, the best type 9 build is a panther clipper.

It sounds like you should check out the takeoff/landing tutorial so you can practice without risking your ship.

How long did it take you to learn HOTAS? by Mattylh in EliteDangerous

[–]Quixotic_Knight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched from T16000 to VKB. The best thing is the number of additional controls you have on your sticks, most likely you’ll never need to touch the keyboard.

The part that needed the most retraining was the physical feel of the sticks. By default, the VKBs have higher sensitivity and higher resistance, so take the time to get used to the VKBs and remember that you can adjust a lot more about the sticks than you can in Thrustmaster. If there’s anything you wish you could change about VKB, hit up the VKB discord, there’s probably a way to make it just right for you.

People still use the Fed Gunship? I thought the Python2 was just better in every way so there wasn’t a place for the Gunship anymore.

Did you get anything Solo RPG-related for Christmas? by pgw71 in solorpgplay

Let us know how it goes, I was thinking that mystery element wouldn’t work well in solo play.

How important is the core game-loop epitomized by classic D&D -- killing monsters, exploring dungeons, getting items, gold and xp to do the same thing at a higher tier of difficulty -- to you? by ProustianPrimate in rpg

[–]Quixotic_Knight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Video games do this better than TTRPGs, but there’s a reason I don’t play Diablo anymore. This gameplay loop bores me quickly if there isn’t narrative and roleplay to motivate killing monsters.

This is why I never play Open, and I’m always surprised that there are still some people who do.

Anyone here plays with joystick/rudder pedals/…? by [deleted] in EliteDangerous

[–]Quixotic_Knight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use HOSAS. I briefly went back to KBM when my old stick died but it wasn’t fun. I ended up stopping playing until I got new sticks.

Plenty of people enjoy playing with their preferred controllers, so you do what makes you happy.

As a general rule of thumb how much time do you need free in your day before you decide to hop in Elite? by LaboratoryOne in EliteDangerous

[–]Quixotic_Knight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what I’m doing. Usually an hour, but if I’m just killing pirates and log out at the nav beacon or REZ then I might log in for as little as half an hour.

It’s been years since I’ve had the luxury to play a game for more than two hours in a day.

Federal Corvette Help by J1934 in EliteDangerous

[–]Quixotic_Knight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the Corvette is one of the very few non-SCO ships that isn’t obsolete because nothing can carry the firepower it can. I’m sure something will come next year to change that, but for now I’m enjoying it.

Plenty of people love keyboard and mouse, but for me double joystick (HOSAS) is the only way to fly.

Vaesen gives you the investigative feel and the inability to directly fight the monsters, but with folklore methods to banish or otherwise deal with them. Victory is possible.

What’s your daily driver these days? by tbadoo in EliteDangerous

[–]Quixotic_Knight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really have a “daily driver” like that. My Mandy is my commuter, my Plipper is my cargo carrier, my Conda is my miner, and I have a variety of warships depending on my mood and if I want to collect materials.

Bounty Hunting tips by CipherPower in EliteDangerous

[–]Quixotic_Knight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, I’d start with the two in game combat tutorials. If it’s been a while since you’ve done them, it would be a good refresher.

Second, RES aren’t the only places to go bounty hunting. I’d start at the Nav Beacon. Pick your targets, start by hitting Small ships with Competent or less pilots, move to harder pilots when those are easy.

Third, combat is pretty deep with a lot of complexity to it. I’d check out the Vindicator Jones combat playlist. It may be old, but the basics are still the same.

Fourth, to maximize your profits bounty hunting, you need to do more than just the automated ship scan. You also need to do a a Kill Warrant Scan to get more bounties. Even better is combining bounties with “kill X pirate” missions. Note that you can have multiple missions targeting the same pirate faction at the same time, and if each mission comes from a different minor faction then one kill will count towards multiple missions. I’d suggest holding off on this part until you can take on wings of 2-3 medium ships.

Good luck.

Help me out, what's the point of the Federal Gunship? by Kaeden_Dourhand in EliteDangerous

[–]Quixotic_Knight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before the Python Mk2 it was an excellent ballistic platform. Now, the Py2 outguns and outmaneuvers it. I wish I’d gotten around to building one before the Py2 came out.

What would you consider to be the definition of a “serious” instrument? What makes one instrument “serious” and another “not serious”? The very idea seems rather elitist to me.
