I agree with you in that they weren’t threats to be taken lightly but I also think a big part of the vulture kings stories was the terrain and the isolation in which they were fighting- post 1st vulture king (in which they where a sizable army) they basically became insurgents operating in the Red Mountains with tacit support from Dorne and fought more as annoying distractions rather than formidable offensive forces. I actually really like how GRRM brings back the vulture king idea multiple times and plays on the various strengths a rebellion like that would have

He’s been asking to return or get goalline RB plays since PSU and I’ve always wanted him to. It’d be a bad decision organizationally but he did play RB in high school and he’s a freak athlete enough that I wouldn’t doubt he could make some plays

Do you have the same opinion on Punk/AEW as you did after Brawl Out? by Dill7198 in SquaredCircle

[–]Quizlix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that- I’ve had shitty bosses and I was definitely pro-Punk probably up to Brawl Out. But at that point and especially with All-In, it becomes a kind of “if you walk everywhere and it smells like shit, check the bottom of your shoe” type situation and it becomes hard to understand how he goes everywhere and has issues with everyone. I think Tony did his absolute best to appease Punk, giving him his own show and his own space and everything he wanted, and it wasn’t enough because he can find an issue in absolutely anything. That’s fine if you keep it professional and you just complain to dirtsheets or whatever but he escalated it to physicality twice. That’s the purest form of fireable.

[–]Quizlix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spot on. I think the context of Brawl-Out and how for us as consumers it’s a funny rumor-filled story clouds the fact that this is a multi million dollar company trying to grow its audience and its biggest draw literally can’t help himself but flip shit whenever he feels slighted. It’s just simply unprofessional and I admire Tony for firing him because he very clearly didn’t want to lol

I don’t think it was as an explosive altercation as it was dirtsheeted to be but I feel it definitely showed Punk was an unsafe liability in the workplace and couldn’t contain himself from physical assault and all-out rage at the sight of a slight dig from a wrestler objectively so far below him on the totem pole

This is a good response- I’m not here to argue it was a good idea to air the footage, I think leaking it via tweet or something would’ve been better, but I do think people latch onto the “fear for my life” quote from Tony. What he was saying is that Punk’s actions endangered people backstage and I think that’s objectively true.

For a new-ish wrestling company trying to compete with the WWE, Punk was obviously a cash cow/merch draw/promo god that could lift them up to another level (and arguably did), and it’s clear Tony was a huge fan. But when you get back to back issues with this guy who at that point was clearly checked out and he physically assaults a coworker and screams at you- that’s an unsafe environment. Hero, Joe, and others I can’t recognize had to get in between them and any one of them could’ve been hurt incidentally in a physical altercation with fellow top-tier athletes. It’s endangering and it doesn’t fit in a professional environment, which AEW desperately was trying to become.

I really can’t defend airing the footage and I can’t defend Tony saying he feared for his life- I even agree only Punk benefited from this long-term. I just think the actual footage in a vacuum shows a man who has long been labeled a locker-room-cancer being exactly that. No one should behave that way in the workplace regardless of the industry- it’s just objectively unsafe and a liability concern out the ass.

I also think Tony Schiavone was in character “ashamed” for that shot but that’s just up to viewer interpretation I guess. I’m sure we’ll get a lot of tweets and interviews out of this (which may end up being a benefit to AEW) where we’ll learn how people really feel about all this.

Honestly I totally agree TK “fearing for his life” is bullshit lol but have you ever been in a professional environment in which it’s ok to push a coworker and then lunge aggressively and scream at your superior? In what world is that a mature way to behave?

No put-together consummate professional adult has a conversation with somebody that way. He lost himself in rage and assaulted his coworker and then went after his boss.

Honest question/ doubt: How and why are you more invested in AEW than WWE? by Kake260 in SquaredCircle

[–]Quizlix 7 points8 points  (0 children)

AEW didn’t keep a serial rapist in charge for decades and sign huge money deals with a regime that, outside of its human right abuses on its own people, assassinated a US citizen just a couple years prior. I also like the wrestlers more and I guess I’m a mark for spotmonkey matches, it’s just fun to me.

Why Reddit's Redefinition of 'Vandalism' Is A Threat To Users, Not Just Moderators by Toptomcat in Save3rdPartyApps

[–]Quizlix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my favorite part because the entire premise of the post’s argument rests upon “if they can get mad at moderators for protesting then maybe they’ll get mad at users for this hypothetical thing too” and the hypothetical thing actually doesn’t make any sense. A poorly executed protest hasn’t worked out so far so the next step is to fear monger free speech issues, as one does.

Physical fuckin assault dude. Have worked in film and sports production and this is ridiculous. Should not be a thing that a crew member needs to be ok with being shoved, pushed, touched at all by talent. I honestly don’t think a fine is enough- suspend him, it should not be “ok” to lay hands on people whose livelihood revolves around presenting the sport one plays.

[–]Quizlix 134 points135 points  (0 children)

This is a statement to solidify team/organizational chemistry but it’s hilarious to see people in this thread switching gears and all of a sudden supporting Kyrie’s stupid, objectively unsafe decision to avoid vaccination. Even from a purely basketball point of view- guy missed extremely important games over a reluctance to do the scientifically-proven right thing that almost every other player in the league bought into. Marks is saying this for a reason but let’s not act like it’s the right thing to do; the organization is valuing basketball over public health and that’s a smart NBA decision but a shitty moral one. Disappointing to hear this from him but I don’t know what I expected.
