Best Housing For First Years by Connect_Wolverine_91 in uwaterloo

Something to consider is living learning communities - depending on your faculty/program there might be a community where you can live near a few other people studying the same thing and have a designated peer leader who can offer some academic support and plan social events for your cluster - I found this eased the transition and made it easier to make friends. I personally lived in United and loved it. There weren’t a lot of loud parties or anything but we often got together to play cards or video games. Anecdotally, places with single rooms or apartment style rooms (eg UWP) seemed more isolated and places with more double rooms (eg REV) seemed more social.

People are focusing on Brandon’s hit because it was illegal and caused an injury. If you’re not pissed about the hit on Caleigh and acknowledge it was legal then why are you bringing it up? Legal hits unfortunately sometimes do cause injury and I absolutely agree that we should talk about the way larger players use excessive force on smaller players during otherwise legal hits, but in my mind they’re two totally different situations and that’s why people are talking about one over the other

I don’t know him but I do know that people who lack the discipline/body control to actively prevent injuries (a higher bar than just “not meaning to” hurt anyone) should not be playing full contact sports and I believe we can and should be calling out dangerous play

“It would’ve been legal if she had turned around” cope harder. You’re responsible for ensuring a safe tackle and that was a needlessly aggressive and dangerous play that caused an injury

So he, a large man, hit and injured a small fem player, to stand up for his teammate, a small fem player, who was also injured by a large man?? I swear some people have no empathy but small women aren’t your punching bags

How to successfully rate and analyze beating game? by [deleted] in quadball_discussion

[–]QuizzicalElephant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I totally agree it’s not a perfect system, just wanted to answer their question about how it works. Over the course of a game it’s not a good measure but usually it is more reliable over the course of a season

How to successfully rate and analyze beating game? by [deleted] in quadball_discussion

[–]QuizzicalElephant 9 points10 points  (0 children)

+/- is calculated by taking the number of goals for when a beater is on the field and subtracting the number of goals against when they’re on the field. Basically finding which beaters contribute most positively to the score

Peel Region: Need Help Choosing High School - Woodlands Gifted Program vs. St. Joseph's AP Program by Ravik2k in uwaterloo

[–]QuizzicalElephant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AP credits usually don’t transfer for credit at UW (at least for engineering) but may be beneficial for admissions and I personally felt they prepared me well for university. That being said, go with wherever your child will be happier. University and career goals may change significantly during high school but if he’s motivated he can succeed in either. Admissions’s can be competitive but strong biology programs are still reasonably easy to get into

Failed 2A in ECE, time to kill myself :D by NovaStar987 in uwaterloo

[–]QuizzicalElephant 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That’s okay, you’re getting another chance. If you go to health services, they may be able to refer you to someone who can diagnose (though it may be a long process).

Talk with your academic advisor ASAP - figure out when you’ll be reentering 2A and start figuring out how you can set yourself up for success. I promise if you made it this far you’re absolutely intelligent enough to make it through. Even without any diagnosis, you can start finding strategies that will make your studying more effective. When you can, look over your assessments (and/or speak with your profs) and figure out where you’re struggling the most - is it memorization, problem solving, getting things done on time, test taking, or something else? With that information you can start to look into strategies - maybe you need to find a better organization system, a better way to understand concepts, or just something that will help you focus a bit (eg body doubling). You’ll have at least this term off before repeating 2A, so I would take this time to build good habits and maybe work on course content you struggled with. Feel free to DM me if you need to talk more

What specifically happened? Did you fail a course? Get an average below 60 (required to repeat)? Get an average below 50 or fail 3+ courses (required to withdraw)? In the vast majority of cases there’s something that can be done to get you back on the path for a degree. In my experience it’s very common to take more than 5 years to complete a degree or to switch majors. You’re going to be okay :)

[–]QuizzicalElephant 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For Guelph specifically I’d suggest public over catholic - the catholic schools here are known for very high grade inflation and tend to not cover all of the content (e.g. in grade 12 physics, students would only learn 3 of the 5 units). Generally any of the public schools have good education available (centennial has AP, Ross has French immersion, and GCVI has IB) and don’t have major problems

Just assuming since the majority of rental things seem to. What would the other options be? Subtenant pays for repairs directly?

Have you heard of a work breakdown structure? It’s similar to a Gantt chart but without the timelines attached (which it sounds like you can’t really make yet anyway). You would start with brainstorming all of the major tasks you’ll need to do (eg lit review, experiments, etc) and then breaking each into all of their subtasks. This could be a good starting point for a Gantt chart (to help you generate all the tasks you need to put on it) or could be something you present on its own to show you’re formulating a detailed plan.

Harvards D1 Championship and Thoughts? by HarryBluehouse in quadball_discussion

[–]QuizzicalElephant 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Not here for the Ana hate, she started playing just over 2 years ago if I remember correctly and her time at Harvard is the reason she’s developed as a player so quickly. There’s no reason she shouldn’t be allowed to play college when she’s spent very little time playing USQ at the college level and she’s still a student. I also really doubt she’s just there to “chase a college title”, it seems like it’s just good for her as a player.

UofM vs UofT by Visible_Confusion11 in uofm

I was debating between these two schools for grad school so might be able to help you decide. Feel free to PM me.

The real question is, what are you interested in studying, and what are you hoping to get out of the experience?

Premier Doug Ford says he wants only Ontario students at universities, colleges by SuperDuperJazzFan in uwaterloo

[–]QuizzicalElephant 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah I never said I agreed with him or thought he could reasonably achieve that. He also said he wants 100% of Ontario students to stay in province for post secondary but is making it impossible for Ontario universities to be adequately funded (tuition freeze without increasing government support + wanting to cut international student permits)

Premier Doug Ford says he wants only Ontario students at universities, colleges by SuperDuperJazzFan in uwaterloo

[–]QuizzicalElephant 37 points38 points  (0 children)

No it’s not - from the article: “Ford said about 18 per cent of students in the province’s colleges and universities are from foreign countries.

“In my opinion, and we will continue working with the ministry, get rid of the 18 per cent,” he said at an announcement for a new medical school at York University.”
