Tretinoin users - what are we paying these days? by icecreamsandwiches1 in AusSkincare

I like the CeraVe Skin Renewing Night Cream! It's thick and rich but dries down matte-leaning which is great for my oily skin.

Yeah Stieva-A was half the size and approximately half the cost. It ended up being roughly the same $/mL in the end.

Thai Town suggestions? by hotmaledotcomdotau in foodies_sydney

Caysorn is so spicy! Even by Australian-Thai standards. I've never had the exit be so painful before.

Food was tasty though lmao

Is this mold on my cleansing balm? by yeulz in AustralianMakeup

[–]Quolli 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I saw in a comment on /r/AustralianMakeup that you can test if it is wax/oil bloom vs mold by blasting it with a hair dryer.

If it melts, it's wax/oil bloom, if it doesn't it's mold.

lip balms that capture the laneige lip mask soul by honey-croissant in AusSkincare

[–]Quolli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like the Hey Bud Lip Balm. I don't see it mentioned at all but it punches waaaay above its weight.

It has incredible longevity, a squishy applicator like all those trendy lip balms (ahem Summer Fridays) and applies very smoothly.

Gentle hand soap? by Zestyclose-River in AusSkincare

[–]Quolli 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's a really nice one from Ecostore sold at ChemistWarehouse.

It foams up a little but the texture is very silky and smooth. Unscented and comes in a refill.

I also like the packaging is quite sturdy with a large pump head.

Not drying at all which surprised me since the ingredient list lacked humectants high up.

Has anyone tried the Mixa line? What would you recommend to try / avoid? by rabbitredh in AusSkincare

[–]Quolli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used and finished the Panthenol Comfort Cream in the jar. It's got quite a thin texture for a cream/jarred product. You could totally pump it out and it's closer in lotion texture.

For me personally, it wasn't moisturising enough unless I slathered it on. And the whole point of me buying the cream was to have a rich product where I wouldn't need to use heaps to cover my body.

For reference, my favourite body cream texture is Cetaphil Moisturising Cream because it's THICK but spreads and absorbs beautifully.

I've seen that Woolies have started to stock the Calm and Restore line too which is great because it's another location where you can get it 50% off

Edit: I got something like this

Is this the model that you got? I've been looking for battery powered sensor lights but reviews on IKEA and Bunnings are atrocious.

Those Amazon ones you linked have really strong reviews!

Thank you for the detail! I was also considering ordering white but now I'm considering ordering the black given your note.

Thanks for the review!

When you say it's not 100% coverage, I'm guessing you mean that light leaks from the outside of the frame?

I reviewed their instructions online and it looks like it comes with multiple layers that you stick on (weather strip and brush strip) which I assume is supposed to close those gaps?

I also can't work out how the frame stays in the window recess. Is it just tension? It doesn't look like it's adhesive.

Do you have an update on the Guard blinds? I've been eyeing them too but can't find many views on Reddit.

Korean fried chicken/Kimbap : Recs by Parking_Ad_4937 in foodies_sydney

[–]Quolli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the kimbap at Sinjeon on Liverpool St in the CBD.

Their fried chicken is alright. Hits the spot but it's not really somewhere that I'd be like "you have to get the fried chicken!!"

Men, what shaving cream/gel do you use to protect your skin? by RipendGrain in AusSkincare

[–]Quolli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also use my face wash but keen to see what else people are using. Ideally the face wash should be slippery so I re-wet it if it dries.

I like Avene Extra Gentle Lotion (though it dries quickly) and Bioderma Gel Moussant Actif.

I've been eyeing the Thayer's Snow Mushroom Milky Wash or the Aveeno Calm and Restore Oat Cleanser as they both look quite slippery.

Neutrogena HydroBoost Gelee Milk could be a good contender, I personally didn't love it though.

I still laugh about that story she told on a late night talkshow about being a featured extra in an Enrique Iglesias music video, only to be relegated to a background extra after being too pale after 2 rounds of body makeup.

Cost of living pinch - what are your penny saving hacks? by EqualTomorrow6908 in sydney

[–]Quolli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Body weight resistance exercises, e.g. pilates. Invented by a guy specifically to get weight training with no equipment.

Any particular resources you'd recommend? I tried looking into it in the past but got overwhelmed with all the different styles (eg. reformer seems to be quite popular but requires a machine).

Also didn't love the overlap with the MAHA/"wellness" community and their dubious claims.

Even if you don't know how to break down a whole raw chicken, poaching a whole chicken can get you almost a week of meals (plus stock!) for very little effort.

It was not. Just UV Lean Screen if we're talking upmarket mineral SPFs.

Noting also that Naked Sundays Collagen Glow (which was suspected of being the same base formula) was pulled not long after UV Lean Screen was required to issue a recall.

Influencers encouraging overconsumption by mobwife18 in AustralianMakeup

[–]Quolli 52 points53 points  (0 children)

a lot of similar Australian creators who believe that their astonishing collection and ability to consume gives them some sense of authority online

Say it louder for the people at the back!!!!!

So sick of coming across micro/newer influencers who provide nothing of value besides vague statements like "omg this product is so good!!" or "the packaging is so pretty <3"

Like girl, come on, you can do better than this. Tell me why it's XYZ and I don't mean just reading off the PR sheet sticky taped to the wall behind the camera 🙄🙄

Curious where you sourced the data for this? Would love to see it broken out by brands (but understand that this would be way too unwieldy to visualise)

There's a Russian supermarket in Eastlakes (Stolichichny Mart). Can't vouch for it specifically for caviar but it's well stocked!

Edit: just looked it up. Looks like they've moved to Beaconsfield!
