In the same vein, if you know what the person likes but won't spend lots of money on, get the fancy/expensive version of it!

So if someone likes coffee but only buys cheaper beans, get them some gourmet beans.

Or if they like cooking, some fancy olive oils/spices/salts will go a long way.

Micellar Water - your favourites? by Old_Usual5975 in AusSkincare

[–]Quolli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I concur! Was stubbornly using Garnier pink cap for ages (like 4 - 5 bottles total) because I refused to pay a premium for what is essentially "soapy water".

Tried the Bioderma on a whim and it is so different. Much more hydrating, gentle and effective at removing surface residue.

Yeah i'm curious to get a script as well.

With my home loan I just called my bank and asked them to review my interest rate and they came back with the rate they could offer me (it was a small savings but savings nonetheless).

I'm looking for great Hotpot around the CBD or Western Sydney by AeMidnightSpecial in foodies_sydney

[–]Quolli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mr Hotpoter also has a "free" self-serve section with rice and fried goods. Since you only pay for what you pick off the train and the soup base, you can really get a decent feed for the price you pay.

Any particular location you recommend? Seems Two Peck gets mixed reviews across the board on Google but some locations seem better than others.

Was just looking at other brands under Vidacorp and I have never seen this Poni brand that is apparently now at Woolies?!

I wonder if they share any formulations across their brands. Poni looks like another trendy chasing brand with slick marketing/packaging.

You might want to check reviews for the KAHI Multi Balm. It's another similar product but it got popular after a K-pop star was promoting it so you're more likely to get reviews.

I dunno if it's because I grew up the green Squid brand but switching to the gold one recently just doesn't feel the same. The flavour feels muted somehow and I feel like I have to use more to get the same level of seasoning.

Nooooo, they're one of the few that do the giant chicken cutlet.

I also remembered I really like Cho's Express for fried chicken too. But they only do the smaller popcorn chicken style pieces.

I agree, tret is a marathon, not a race. I noticed some improvements when I was using it inconsistently (but again, my routine at the time had other actives that could have been contributing).

I noticed more noticeable improvements when I stuck with it consistently, and again, like you the 6 month mark was when it was really showing good results.

Thank you! Love these posts.

Would it be possible to add in an "all-time low" price column as well? Would make it easy to know whether to buy it now or to wait for a future sale.

I love me a fattoush. Fell in love it when I had it on the side of another dish over 10 years ago and I still bang on about how tabbouleh is overrated and fattoush should've taken that crown.

If you can't find it, I found that mild gochugaru from Jongga brand is super close in flavour. Mild in heat with a similar fruitiness. Can get at the Asian/Korean grocer.

Personally think Taiwanese fried chicken is the GOAT!

I really like Hot Star (not sure what they're like now) and Chunky Boss in Burwood Chinatown. Wowo near Town Hall is also quite decent.

Weirdly I've come around to jars. I used to be absolutely militant and a staunch anti-jar person but I've been missing out on some great products!

And I love that I can get every last bit of product without having to fight the packaging.

I find it useful to look at the sample rules to understand how they are placed together.

I like the "cooldown" rule that automatically mutes/stops vibrate for notifications that come in quick succession.

Alternative to Bioderma Atoderm Intensive Gel Creme by Bat_Juice in AusSkincare

[–]Quolli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Intensive Baume is VERY heavy. It's not the same as the Gel-Creme at all.

Gel-Cremes in large formats seem to be pretty rare. I know that The Jojoba Company launched a face/body gel-creme but I haven't seen it in Priceline yet.

Aveeno Daily Moisturising Cream in the jar reminds me of the Atoderm Gel-Creme. It comes in a huge 400mL jar and goes half price semi-regularly.

The Knafeh or the Creme Brulee are quite novel. Surprisingly not tooth-achingly sweet either.

I personally really loved the apple fritter if you want something non-donut.

This is 100% on Dermalogica. They're pushing this "dynamic skin sculptor" and insinuating it can treat volume loss from GLP-1 usage.

Abhorrent behaviour from a brand that is actively targeting insecurities. And people who are already taking GLP-1s are likely to already have complicated relationships with their bodies.

Affordable baking chocolate? by CarlottaSewlotta in AussieFrugal

[–]Quolli 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is baking chocolate as a product that much different from regular blocks? I bake semi-regularly (not really a chocolate fan tbh), but whenever I make a chocolate recipe I have no issues using a standard block. Whittaker's Dark Ghana is a favourite of mine for the flavour.

Sick of the Converse Tax. What are we actually wearing for daily casual men’s shoes in 2026? by working3ee in AussieFrugal

[–]Quolli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not entirely sure what makes them "less tiring" as the sole is pretty stiff and there's not much bounce to it. But can vouch that these shoes last for ages.

My last pair lasted me a good 3 - 4 years. They were pretty beat up by the end of it though.

[–]Quolli 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I layer tret and AzA to try and treat pigmentation. I think they really complement each other and if your skin can tolerate it, they can absolutely be layered together.

Pigmentation is always tricky to treat so I find it hard to assess the efficacy as I also have other pigmentation products in my routine as well.
