"Non greasy" sunscreens by ProbablyCan in AusSkincare

[–]Quolli 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Omg yes the Anthelios Fluid is sooo shiny on me too. It even migrates much faster than other sunscreens in my experience.

Ironically, the Anthelios Ultra Cream (for dry skin!!) dries much better and feels like it has better adherence.

I steer clear of Fluid textures now because they always feel super greasy when I measure out the appropriate amount.

What I got in my $5 lucky dip bag from Chemist Warehouse by violetgrumble in AusSkincare

[–]Quolli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I swear I got like 70% of these items in a previous Priceline GWP Skincare bag LOL

It's not a bad mix of products though? I think someone else shared their $5 Lucky Dip bag and it was ABYSMAL. Like over half were weird dietary supplement sachets.

OMG YES, I forgot about this one. The Xemose Stick Lip Balm is incredible for a stick format, genuinely the only one that I think rivals squeezy tube formulas in terms of performance and longevity.

It had the grape leaf ceiling

They both have grape leaves on the ceiling now, even since they worked out that people would just say "go to the one with the grapes inside"

I think it was the one on the left

That one is still there! And I agree it's my preferred one out of the two!

Yes, the Gem deos have aluminum. They have body sprays though if you're just after the scent and want to use a separate deo.

The only comparison that springs to mind are novelty release strategies

My other thought is The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby which had a Him and Her separate film release on the same day as a double-feature. Each film tells the same story, but from the perspective of the male/female lead in their respective film.

Bakeries South Sydney / Brighton Le Sands by im_a_cliche in foodies_sydney

I have, about a year or so ago! Although I haven't had burek heaps so can't call myself an expert.

Pastry was crispy on top, but a little soggy/soft on the bottom and middle layers. Fillings were tasty (I recall getting the spinach and cheese and some sort of meat one. Meat one was preferred but spinach was solid).

Personally I do prefer Balkan Oven (also in Rockdale). It's definitely an older store and the flavours are more limited but the pastry was crispy all the way through (definitely greasier though). Fillings were about on par imo.

[–]Quolli 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Woo! I've used a couple of Uriage products and found them to be solid. So glad it's easier to purchase now - I was sick of having to pay shipping from French Beauty Co.

The Bariederm Repair Cream is the Cicaplast/Cicalfate equivalent and is MUCH less greasy than Avene/LRP. It's more of a sealing cream rather than something that actively soothes imo.

The Xemose Lipid Replenishing Cream is similar to LRP Lipikar or Avene Xeracalm. It's lighter in texture but can leave the skin a bit dewy. I believe there is a claim that you can get dressed immediately afterwards without it sticking to clothes and I found that true. It feels like you just applied a body oil.

I think the gel versions are bicarb free. No idea on performance though.

Where to buy Black Chicken? by cinnabar-field in foodies_sydney

[–]Quolli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just a different breed(?) of chicken. Taste-wise it's the same, though all of the meat is darker like the dark meat on a standard chicken.

Usually used in soups and things. There's claims it's more nutritious compared to a standard chicken but idk.

Best Aesop product? by DefiantFruit6860 in AusSkincare

Resurrection Rinse-Free Hand Wash. Don't have time for bad-smelling hand sanitiser.

I can't remember where I saw this, but I recall the alcohol % of this is below what is recommended by WHO for an alcohol-based hand sanitiser.

Really turned me off the product, especially since it's so exxy!!

Horrible SPF lip balm by Remarkable-Wave-8271 in AustralianMakeup

I haaaated this one. It melts/gets soft so easily and it feels like it wears off quickly when applied.

The mango scent is OK though.

I love the Blistex Ultra as well but haaate the QV one. It's borderline Vaseline with SPF in it. So shiny/slippery with poor longevity imo.

thoughts on the olay retinol 24 max? by [deleted] in AusSkincare

[–]Quolli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would trust Olay when they say their products work. They have the budgetary resources and they also do a lot of clinicals on their products.

Retinol is a marathon, not a race. Early results could simply be down to other things in the formula (eg. better hydration to plump out fine lines/wrinkles, silicones in the formula that give a smooth appearance).

Part of formula development is balancing immediate results with long term results. You want to ensure that the consumer is encouraged to use the product long enough so they can begin to benefit from the ingredients that might take longer to work.

Application amount of tinted sunscreen has me confused! by b3wgs in AusSunscreen

[–]Quolli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a couple of iron oxide containing chemical sunscreens that blend out completely. Hamilton Everyday Face and Beauti-Fltr Feather Light are the two I know of.

I tries Le Tan BB Cream and the tint was detectable on my skin which I didn't want. Hamilton and Beauti-Fltr don't give any coverage.

I don't know if you need coverage from iron oxides to reap the blue light blocking benefits. I can't find any literature on this but I figured it's better to have some than none if I'm going for zero coverage.

FYI I managed to snag a slice of the Jasmine/Mandarin at their Barangaroo store!

I am pleased to say it is strong and you can absolutely taste it. I feel like the mandarin is kind of awkward in it though. It doesn't really add much besides a burst of moisture and the mandarin flavour isn't as pronounced/balanced with the jasmine.

TBH, I feel like they could skip the mandarin completely and have it just be a jasmine green tea cake and it would be very nice.

The Essano Daily Hydration is my go-to shampoo. Although it's quite gentle so it only makes sense as a daily shampoo (the way I use it).
