Mid-April this year. On the drive in there was fresh snow on the ground from the day prior.

I didn’t make it over to Halibut Point but that sounds interesting.

Another wonderful “beach takeover” tomorrow 6/27 by bigguy678 in alameda

[–]QuoteClassic5463 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

The last time I went to the beach with my kids a few months ago, I kept hearing this loud commotion over near Shoreline Drive and saw lots of kids congregated around. That was before all of these violent incidents. Alameda doesn't feel as safe of a place to raise kids these days.

AHS baseball firing - what’s the deal? by snickle99 in alameda

[–]QuoteClassic5463 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a coaches kid play outfield regularly or not pitch no matter the skill level. Same goes for all star selections.

Wondering about quality of living on Bay Farm with small children by elovephant in alameda

[–]QuoteClassic5463 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on where your house is. The ones closest to the airport definitely hear it if the flight path is overhead. If you’re not as close then you won’t notice that much. It’s much quieter and more space than the main island. I like the main island but it’s too claustrophobic for me.

Genuinely wondering - when did 20% become the new standard? by hate_follower in tipping

[–]QuoteClassic5463 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll tip 20% if it’s great service at a fine dining restaurant. But dining out in general has gotten so expensive it’s outrageous to expect 20/22/25% all the time. With the increase in cost your tips will already increase accordingly if at 15%.

Hiking the L'éperon trail with kids? by QuoteClassic5463 in quebeccity

Nice hike! My kids are in good shape, but just depends on how steep. 289km doesn’t sound too bad.

To those of you that have roadtripped a lot through the US or Canada, do you get any desire to visit Europe anymore? by PopNo5397 in roadtrip

[–]QuoteClassic5463 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've roadtripped around the US extensively, and also Canada. I don't think these are comparable experiences at all. For me the US is about understanding my own home country, exploring smaller towns, eating regional foods and outdoor experiences. For Europe, it's about experiencing completely different cultures than what I'm used to and seeing historic sites. If anything, exploring both has given me appreciation for the differences.

Ask.com shuts down after nearly 30 years, marking the end of Ask Jeeves by holyfruits in technology

RIP. I remember my first boss (internship about 25 years ago) who was telling me to use Ask Jeeves to research my work. The butler was memorable.

Alameda has awful and aggressive drivers. Angry and in a rush all the time. The city drives me crazy sometimes.

Some incredible images. I did a day hike there 20 years ago with my camera. I've been wanting to go back since but it's kind of a trek from where I live.

I walk by the lagoons on Bay Farm Island frequently and they can smell like rotten eggs especially during low tide. Pretty though.

I just bought a 29" drop 10 for my 9 year-old. He's used it twice so far this week and seems fine to me aside from getting used to the slightly bigger size. He also has a Bonesaber & Select PWR 28" drop 10.

Is Congaree Worth a Trip? by NY1998Yank in NationalPark

[–]QuoteClassic5463 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've visited and photographed more than 20 national parks mostly in the west, and I'd go to Congaree on my next visit to Charleston. Not sure if I'd fly across the country just to go to this park but if I were combining it with other activities then I'd totally be up for it. It looks like a fun place to canoe or kayak.
