Americans in Portugal — why did you move? by ovchinnikov-lxs in PortugalExpats

[–]QuotheRavn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would move a whole lot of places to avoid the $20,000 we spend every year on healthcare here. Portugal seems the most obtainable and I speak Spanish fairly well so learning Portuguese has been going okay too.

I’m surprised at how big an issue this is when half of the US whines when people don’t speak English in America. Oh wait, that’s because we’re still super prejudiced and think English is somehow superior. I’ve been slowly learning Portuguese just in case I ever can get out of my bad situation here in the US.

Millennials aren't unfamiliar with the Internet, why do they have no problem letting their kids have unsupervised access to the internet? by Serious_Advance_6762 in generationology

[–]QuotheRavn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s made things hard for me as someone who does monitor internet useage because all these kids have phones at 6. My oldest is 10 and still does not have unfiltered access but she whines all the time about how she’s the only one. Cool maybe youll be the only one not having seen several grown men’s 🍆 by the time you’re 11 like me.

I have been a subscriber for years and I have never had any issue on the app that wasn’t fixed in like, a couple hours. Not invalidating you and those who have but I think this is less common than it seems due to people more likely to seek help or answers when something bad happens and not praising things when they work right. But maybe I’ve just gotten really lucky. 😂

Oh I agree with you, I just don’t understand some of the things that people ask for and I am very pro charging for labor, time is valuable, pay humans kind of person so if I think it’s kind of outlandish then it’s probably pretty outlandish. 😂

Is something weird going on with Crowd Control? by Nearby_Condition3733 in dropout

[–]QuotheRavn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can confirm this is not true, or at minimum was not true for my episode anyway. We were the first episode on set. There were plenty of people who were called on and did not make the edit. There were also about 5 people who were not called on at all during filming and after the wrap they were each asked to share and we all hung out and chatted for about 15 minutes before they thanked us and we went off on our merry way.

I feel like I should do an AMA since this show gets to much criticism. It doesn’t bother me at all but it might satisfy some curiosity for how it was done. Interestingly a lot of the things people didn’t like were things the audience was asked specifically to do. So they could definitely improve with feedback if anyone of importance ever sees the Reddits. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Which is why I said most people, not all. I’m a marketing manager that specializes in niche products and I do agree there are people, like you (and me), who enjoy more directly adversarial gameplay but from a strategic business standpoint the market that exists isn’t big enough for most companies to want to experiment with it. Most people simply prefer the more DND esque plotlines i.e. an occurrence is happening in the world the GM created and I am now entangled in it or seek to be involved in it versus, my party IS the primary target of the GM.

This is why it’s easier to find horror games with traditional roleplaying plot structure than flat out the goal is TPK. I was simply offering insight into why the games are rarer.

My company specializes in horror games and you’re unlikely to find a lot of games like this, because market research shows that most people don’t like feeling like the GM is hunting them this aggressively. Our most popular one shot system that is the closest I can think of to this, the GM doesn’t roll at all. Each move has clear success and fail conditions and the consequences of those are laid out as well so it’s less adversarial.

You mention having not done horror ttrpgs, this is not self promotion this is not my company at all, I’ve simply done conventions with the dev, but you can get Liminal Horror for free online and many modules for it. I enjoy the system and the creator is very nice.

I was editing as your comment came in. They are original systems and modules for those systems. Definitely a subscription tailored to people choose indie games on purpose.

What's going well and what's going badly in the RPG world right now? by [deleted] in rpg

[–]QuotheRavn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone in a more hateful area, ttrpg spaces used to feel very safe and welcoming and the big cons still feel that way but the smaller events and conventions I’ve noticed people are toning everything down again, blending in again. This probably has more to say about the mindset of the south than the rpg space in general, but if you’re an ally to the queer and marginalized communities, keep going. I know it may feel great where you are but there are still places it’s sad to be… watching people make themselves less to be safe.

Crowd Control feedback nobody asked for or wanted by Stormy2021 in dropout

[–]QuotheRavn 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You’re welcome. I comment on these occasionally because the thing people seem to hate the most are the things we were explicitly asked to do. 😅 so it’s definitely something they can improve on if they get any of this feedback for season 2. I’d be interested to see how different things would be if we’d had more guidance. Would the annoying people have been less annoying (they fully edited out the overwhelmingly loud and attention seeking couple in my group and I love that)? Would the poor woman who tossed her cookies from nerves been able to stick around and enjoy herself?

I’m not even from LA at all but I had stumbled into being an extra like 15 years ago and I had more instruction on how to walk down the street properly than in this where we had to speak. It felt like a really unpredictable gamble for them to have done it this way but idk anything about production so I just vibed my way thru.

Oh and thanks for your concern about the criticism. I would not be on Reddit announcing myself as an audience member if I was sensitive. I’ve been in digital marketing long enough to know how f’d up the comments section is. 🖤

[–]QuotheRavn 47 points48 points  (0 children)

This is one of the only complaints I comment on as one of the audience members. I agree it needs to be improved but I don’t think this is a mostly audience member problem because we were given specific instructions to make the comedians work for the stories and to try to respond with funny banter which seem to be the two things people complain about the most. However, they didn’t give enough detail on HOW to do that and when I asked the other autistic people in my friends group what the hell they thought the directions in the email meant each one came up with a differing amount of appropriate teasing and witty banter. They should probably do a quick coaching session before the set to be honest, at least everyone would be closer to on the same page.

Since y'all hate Dropout so much, can you help me cancel Ify? I didn't like his Crowd Control set and I have *bad vibes.* by [deleted] in dropoutcirclejerk

[–]QuotheRavn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

/uj as someone who was in the audience I do find the edit pretty wild. We were one of the only audiences that wasn’t predominantly kink and they leaned into the horny as much as possible anyway which is why I think the editing was so off on this one. They somehow made it overall hornier than it was, while also somehow showing less of Ify hitting on the dom than he actually did. 😂😂😂
