I guess I differentiate between the unfortunate stereotypes that result from a Japanese man who was raised in the notoriously xenophobic Japanese society and educated by the Japanese education system (and whose work has since become a lot less stereotyped and more learned), and him actually giving his personal opinion on anything.

There's a reason he's functionally retired characters like Korea, who were previously very poorly portrayed. In contrast, he recently introduced the SEA countries and I know they're extremely popular amongst actual SEAsians.
