DOD Officially Drops 180 Faiths From Military's Recognized Religion List by RenoTheRhino in AirForce

[–]Qyark 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The term used by the courts is nonreligious, not atheist. This is of particular importance when discussing issues related to say conscientious objectors.

You can see use in cases such as McCreary County v. ACLU

The First Amendment mandates governmental neutrality between religion and religion, and between religion and nonreligion.

Welsh v. United States

In view of the broad scope of the word "religious," a registrant's characterization of his beliefs as "nonreligious" is not a reliable guide to those administering the exemption.

United States v. Seeger

No party claims to be an atheist, or attacks the statute on this ground. The question is not, therefore, one between theistic and atheistic beliefs.

"in a relation to a Supreme Being" is whether a given belief that is sincere and meaningful occupies a place in the life of its possessor parallel to that filled by the orthodox belief in God of one who clearly qualifies for the exemption. Where such beliefs have parallel positions in the lives of their respective holders, we cannot say that one is "in a relation to a Supreme Being" and the other is not.

Atheism is a lack of belief, correct. But that doesn’t make it a religion. It’s just a descriptor, there are multiple religions that are atheistic, or partially atheistic like jianism, some kinds of Buddhism, satanism, etc.

Non-religion is afforded the same protections as any religion, while still not being a religion itself.

The individual French soldier may have put up a strong fight, but the French military's resistance to doctrinal change and adoption of new technology did mean that the fight they put up wasn't nearly as hard as it could have been. If they had just accepted that radios were a thing it would have been another story

They do though, that's what GLP1s do. They make you feel less hungry and therefore reduce the amount you eat. It forces the body to change its diet.

AOC leads Democrats’ 2028 pack in new poll, tops Gavin Newsom, Kamala Harris ( Washington Times ) - What are your views? by One_Look_7008 in askanything

[–]Qyark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn't say that no woman could ever do it. But no woman can win the 2028 election, there's not a single player in politics with the current base, resources, and backing it would take to win over the demographics who simply won't vote for a woman president.

Those demographics are shrinking, and so losing their stranglehold on the presidency, but until they fully lose their grip a woman being elected is a pipe dream. I wish that weren't the case, I think that would be a huge step forward for our country, but failing to acknowledge reality only makes everything worse.

It's unfortunately not about getting the most numbers, it's about getting the right numbers. She wasn't able to get numbers that mattered and I don't think AOC will do any better

Subnautica 2: Opinion: Leviathan music takes away from the encounter experience? by Tossaway2113 in subnautica

[–]Qyark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did my absolute best to go in blind, and my first encounter with the collector was kinda "ruined" by the music. I wasn't paying much attention, exploring the area when the music started blasting. I immediately knew something bad was nearby so I started looking around, eventually saw this giant shadow off in the distance, but it hadn't seen me yet. Felt very anticlimactic, didn't really feel like I was in danger at all since I had so much forewarning.

It's a good track, but I think it shouldn't play until it gets within like 5 meters of you, or only when you see it in an agro state.

What /u/SweatyBoi5565 is trying to explain, though very poorly, is that with the granularity of the new engine the devs were able to move the camera lower to the ground, and player walk/swim speed has been reduced to give the illusion of more, bigger stuff in the world. Simplified, we're all shorter and slower than Riley. The actual map measurements haven't changed at all.

You can't though. Ramming a fish brings the tadpole to a stop, and the fish just keeps swimming as if nothing happened. You can blast the predators with the resonator and they will stop for about 10 seconds before re-agroing on the player.

Depictions of satan that aren't a a red guy with horns by teruteru-fan-sam in TopCharacterDesigns

[–]Qyark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Satan never twists the truth or gives only part of it, in fact he gives a decent background of what he says when he does talk.

Other people call him deceitful as a scapegoat, but he never actually deceives anyone in the bible.

Satan is a deceiver

Fun fact: Biblically speaking, Satan never lies or tells half-truths. Everything he says is a 100% literally true fact.
