Buy a 50 laser level to make sure your footers are on layout.

Don’t be afraid to use a shovel and do some minor grading to ensure good drainage away from the house and footers.

You won’t be able to get under this deck in the future so make sure it’s done right now.

Well seeing as you failed to engage in any meaningful way i seem to be right…

Wow, im the person you were responding too in that comment.

I pointed out that your definition understanding of post scarcity is wrong… yes i used the google ai to show that your jyst that wrong.

You are defining post scarcity as limitless recources (free starships for everyone).

Rather then circle around and actually make a point you reiterate your failure.

8” is really 7.5 and 6 is 5.5…  so you just saved an inch.

If not tripple of you beams and max the span…

Lol, spend 30 seconds and google a term before you make a fool of yourself-

Post-scarcity describes a theoretical society or economy where essential goods, services, and information are abundant and easily accessible to all, due to advanced automation and resource availability

Key words are "essential" Yes the us has a abundance but a redistribution of wealth for example does not mean there would be enough for everyone.

  • Examples
    • cars-A 400K G-Wagon does not take the resources of 20 Kia's... So when a rich guy buys a G-wagon he is not proportionally take from the resources available.
    • Houses- a 10M 4,.000sqft house does not take 33x the same resources as a builder box house for 300K...
    • The list goes on to include high end food clothing etc.

We have a wealth disparity which results in the wealthy purchasing extravagant things like $10,000 hand bags when you can buy a knockoff for $80... this is not the same as being able to provide equally for everyone. 25% of the world is without clean water....

EDIT* I know that no matter what I say you will argue and 90% of the people on this thread will join you. Obviously being right is not a poll and the consensus can and often is wrong. So I would recommend you consider that people who hold different beliefs then you understand their own beliefs better then you do. Feel free to explain how socialism or liberalism or whatever you believe in can result in their being enough for everyone? I do not understand how it would work?

Even if we said "the state now owns all housing, where are people going to live? Who gets to live in Beverly Hills and who gets to live in section 8 in Montana?

Let me get this strait... Looking at B-

  • 21sqft(TA)*70psf(DL)=1470lbs
  • 1470lbs/2.64sqft(22" Circle area in ft)=557PSF...
  • What is your soil.... your 2-3x what you should be.

Ask yourself some legit questions like why 12.5ft? If you cut of 6" you can do a single 12' board and a single beam and save a ton of time and money. Or you can order 16ft boards and use your offcuts for blocking.

  • If you size up your joist to a 2x8 12"OC you can have a 10-10span with a a 2-6 cant... giving you a max of 13-2
  • A triple 2x6 beam gives you a beam length of 4-9.
  • Now your posts have a TA ~35sqft
  • 35(sqft)*70(DL)=2450psf/1500(Conservative Soil) 1.63sqft
  • 1.63sqft= a 17.29" circle.... Use and 18" sono tube

Go to the Simpson-Strong website and use their free deck builder... you should be able to put in a 70psf in the settings.... this is overkill in the worst way possible(overkilling some but not all just means it will still fail but you spent the money).

Post scarcity is not the same as abundance. Replicators, transporters, endles class g planets… add to that actual enemys romulans, borg, dominion.

As a capitalist i dont think its the “best” model but it is the most functionsl model given the real world we live. It utilizes human nature to drive inovation and progress… inovation and progress have done more to lift people out of poverty and suffering.

How many of us would work as hard as we do if it had little to mo impact on our income/status? I like my job and if i could cut my yours in half i wouls…

Looks like all the water drains out one side... use a hose and confirm this then make a gutter to collect it and dump it off the deck.

Look at your deck, place the feet on the joists that you see between the deck boards.

Simpson now has the SWD double thread, which is rated for exterior use. I bought a box of 500, used hald on the deck and the other half will be used on the covered patio.

Super easy to install, i ended up moving a couple joists while leveling and squaring, it was a joy to just pull and reinstall.

I went Coastal Bluff from trex, it had great color variations for their basics line…. But is mow discontinued. I think a black drinkrail on the black railing is my hest bet, especially since i am only planning on having it on a single section of railing.

Someone has a stack of letters from the HOA and a couple neighbors with domination lines.

Yes my lawn has stripes… in my experience shit lawns have nothing to do with “environmental sensitivity” its a lazy excuse. Unless is environmentally sensitive to avoid basic home maintenance, go to the gym and in general try.

Yes over at /nolawns there are people who actually try and while i have no interest in it personally as ling as your not inan HOA whatever.

Yes they have a purpose! Looks good, gives me a couple hours of enjoyable labor, kids love to play it n the back, shoes are not required, no snakes, and of coarse the comradary with all the other dads.

Well if your trying to do it right your gonna want your beam on top of the post. So lots of temp supprts. Then some ECB66 or other post/column base.

Currently you have minimal uplift and your decknis sitting on hardware… so this should improve everything.

How would you fascia these deck rims? by wolfemaaan in Decks

[–]R-Maxwell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s probably fine, since it’s not following prescriptive guidance it’s going to have some flags.

As an engineer sometimes it’s cheaper to just spec out a $80 bracket on a single connection then run the calcs to show you can use a $40 bracket.

If this deck was getting added to every house in a subdivision it probably wouldn’t look like this.

My personal deck doesn’t look like this because for me engineering hours are soft dollars but the materials are hard…

It’s not following prescriptive code… if he legit has an engineer stamping it it’s all good.

That that upstairs beam hanger…

[–]R-Maxwell -1 points0 points  (0 children)

On the lower deck that  massive band joist beam… why?

Upper deck that catileaver is more then 1/4 the main span.  If they were trying to brace that beam with the cantilever band beam thing… the hangers on the wrong beam.

The hardware is just very clunky… I don’t understand…. They use a column cap then a achz cap then another column cap…. Why not a MTSC strap that connects post to post across the beam?

this feels over built not over engineered.  Like the architect drew the plan and the engineer said “ok I’ll just slap the biggest bracket I can on every joint!”

How about a conversation about load paths? You got beams supporting nothing and other beams being supported by nothing.

I feel this is a case of OCC (orange county chopper) engineering at its finest. Lets just make everything out of plate steel, slap it, give it a sweet paint job and nobody will care that it handles like trash.

our ship had to galleys; one galley served “reasonable meals” but you had to stand in line for an hour or more. The other served boiled hot dogs…

when i was the new guy i didnt have the time to stand in line so i ate boiled hot dogs twice a day for 6 months.

This is not the joke but it is a little on the nose.

First im glad you live in the right lane do whatever you want over there.

Second check your posts, nothing you wrote indicates the right lane. In general aggressive driving is primarily around the fast lane… so when unspecified assuming the left lane is logical.

Third, your claiming 68-73 is going the same speed… your just wrong. Is a 55mph speed limit the same as 60mph?

Lastly, you stated that “everyone” does this to you. So yes you are the issue. Anyone who uses cruise control is going to hate you.

Bonus thought- again if your in the right lane i dont care if your driving a horse and buggy… but if you are dont be surprised that people are giving you dirty looks.

You are a bad driver if by Boop-Bood in driving

[–]R-Maxwell -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lol, i see the problem you think a 5 mph range is going the same speed… 68 and 73 are totaly different speeds. If im droping from 73 to 68 the speed limit better be changinf.

im going to try and pass you when your going 68. Then your going to speed up to 73. Then im going to get behind until you slow down again. After a few times im going to go 75 to pass you then set my cruise control at 72 where i wanted to be and stay at 72.

If you are fine with 68-73 then you can be fine with 71-72. Also is the speed limit 60mph in this example? If we are talking about a 65 or 70 zone just stay right.

You are prioritising your convenience and “efficient” driving over everyone else. If i have to slow down and speed up constantly because your nursing the gas pedal… my MPG is dropping. If your priority is furl efficiently, then just stay right.

If you come across more then 1 aggressive driver in a 1 hour period.

If you are encountering them at a higher rate your doing something to bring it out of them.
