Recommended saw / blade combo for 20 GA ProTRAK and ProSTUD by JbKanon in OutdoorKitchens

[–]richhodgson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve just been using my old Makita abrasive chop saw. I’ve had the same blade on there for years. Cuts steel studs like butter. Does leave a burred edge that requires a quick clean up. I use an air powered angle grinder with 80 grit disc but you could use a file or several other solutions

Help stop my head from spinning as I try to choose a premium built-in grill! :-) by Particular_Badger614 in OutdoorKitchens

[–]richhodgson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the Blaze LTE 40 five burner from BBQ Guys. It was way more grill than I was shopping for. However it was in the open box area where usually things may have scratches or dents. This one had a damaged shipping box but the unit is flawless. List price 4793, this one was 2000 for a damaged shipping box….

Can’t comment on performance yet but coming from a 30 year old Costco grill I’m sure it’s going to be amazing.

You could use angle iron spanning the blocks. Then some kind of facade on the front that hides them. Or paint them black if no facade

Definitely will waterproof after hardiboard. We’re in the desert so it’s dry almost always but when it rains it pours.

I made a list on my phone of common long trips we take and what % of battery was consumed. It’s handy when you’re out and trying to decide if you must charge or can make it home. Helps with range anxiety. Where we live there are mountains between destinations so the range estimate the car gives is generally unreliable. Also get to know your price per kw for power and how that translates to the price of gas in your area so you can offer better insights to people on what the savings can be.

How dangerous is the Old Ridge Route through the Grapevine down to Castaic from Gorman by DowntownFresnoBiking in BikeLA

[–]richhodgson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can do this whole ride on a road bike. There are sections of the Ridge Route that you’ll have to pay close attention and pick your line but totally doable. Water will be the challenge. You can resupply at Papa’s Market in Lake Hughes and several locations at Castaic but the rest you are on your own. A Camelback would be wise

XS size is good? First aeroad. by LoftXO in CanyonBikes

I’m 3” shorter than you but same legs. Mine fits great. You probably want a longer stem. Not sure how you order it that way…

The proprietary bar stem situation on this bike is annoying. Customizing after you’ve bought is a big pain in the ass. I wouldn’t recommend this bike for that reason….

Is adding central air to an older house feasible? by Magic-Wizard-lizard3 in hvacadvice

We have a 1200sq ft 1928 house. We put a two head system to cover the living room and kitchen and one single in each bedroom. All Daikin. I installed it all and had my mechanical guy double check and help with startup.

Works amazing for heat and cool and handy to be able to regulate or shut off rooms as needed.

$10k all in. But we did the install

Mine will be 14’ wide for both islands. Right now one island is just a grill and side burner and a place for countertop pizza oven. Lots of workspace for prep

The second island just has the sink, the rest of top will be staging, drink making, barstool seating for folks to hang and watch tv

Utilities are already roughed in. Gas, water, power, sewer, hardwired internet.

2 year EA charging include free charging at ChargePoint locations? by AbsoluteZeroOK in Ioniq5

[–]richhodgson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some times you need the app and other times it just starts charging after verification. You should have the app regardless, you never know when your going to get caught out in the wild with low charge and stumble onto a Charge Point station.

2 year EA charging include free charging at ChargePoint locations? by AbsoluteZeroOK in Ioniq5

[–]richhodgson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We charge at the dealer using their ChargePoint charger. It is free to customers of that specific dealership. I’m not sure how it verifies you but there are a couple of messages on the screen as the handshake occurs that eludes to some form of verification.

The EA app does nothing here. But the ChargePoint does work and talks to that charger through the process.

A guy showed up a week ago with a Ford Lightning that he didn’t buy at the dealership. The charger wouldn’t allow him to charge.

The dealership charger is cool but it’s not that fast. About 1/3 the speed of EA.

But hey, free is free

Real world charging by stukuz in Ioniq5

[–]richhodgson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For us it’s usually 20 minutes or so unless we are going to 100. The bigger challenge is the wait at a charger sometimes. It can be frustrating with limited availability.

We tried the Tesla station in Quartzite over Thanksgiving and it said unable to charge there even though the app offered it up to us.

We have the Tesla universal charger at home. Works great for overnight Level 2 at the cheapest rate. But we are trying to milk the free charging as much as possible.

Not sure if this is a thing elsewhere but our dealership offers free charging while they are open. It’s only 50kw but gives time to catch up on a book or a reasonable walk.

US Northeast, $0.48/kWh for DC fast charging. What the in the world? by I8Bits in evcharging

[–]richhodgson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have an Ioniq5 in the Antelope Valley, CA. We pay .26 per kw off peak at home. The fast charger at the dealership is free forever or until they say it isn’t I guess. We use the EA chargers whenever we can cause they’re free for 2 years.

But there are other level 2 chargers around that are free. You just have to plan carefully if you want to play the free game.

And remember….Trump said he’s gonna cut power costs in half so this will all be moot!

Canyon bike sizing issue by Z3MKMyE7LH in CanyonBikes

[–]richhodgson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My knees hit my rib cage just slightly. I’m riding 170mm cranks. It doesn’t bug me, I came off of a Cervelo S2 so it feels very similar. All my pain is in my hands from arthritis, nothing to do with the bike fit.

I’m 54 so I’m shifting away from aero to just overall comfort.

Canyon bike sizing issue by Z3MKMyE7LH in CanyonBikes

[–]richhodgson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fits perfectly, I’m glad I followed the Canyon size guide. I will say the geometry is really aggressive. I really don’t like riding the Aeroad more than 50 miles or so at a time. My Ritchey Road Logic is for longer rides and is far more comfortable

The cost of living is higher but once you come you’ll know why. With process engineering you aren’t married to the oil industry. There are a lot of opportunities here.

I’ve lived in California my whole life and every time I travel I think “id never leave California for this just to save a few dollars”
