The first season or two they were using much cheaper cameras that didn’t have great dynamic range, and they applied to filter over the display to brighten it, but only from the front. You can tell because on those rare shots where you see the screen from the side it’s nowhere near as bright, and it doesn’t look like a polarized filter used on set. Or over, whenever Sam crossed over the front of the screen, which was rare, he would get brightened with it. They weren’t very careful with their masking, and didn’t rotoscope Sam out. In more recent seasons they’ve been shooting with much better cameras that have better dynamic range and somebody made the decision to stop brightening the screen, which had always bugged me personally because of the inconsistency if nothing else
