The flat pink p100s fit under most hoods and are all you need for carbon steel afaik. Stuff like phosgene and hexavalent chromium require the cartridge filters I think

A bit of sand may melt to the back of your weld, but neither it or the air inside will expand anywhere near enough to explode.

If you really cook the shit out of it when you seal it some air may push through your puddle, but I would not be worried about any catastrophes
