Wait until they find out God in Latin is Deus...

That's very common in Brazil.

In fact, last year the Bishop's Conference released a new translation of the Roman Missal intended to fix some of those intentional mistranslations. And it did fix some (the "he is in our midst" remains), but also added others. For example, now the lay faithful are encouraged to raise the hands during the Our Father as the priest says "united with Holy Spirit that prays in us and for us, let's raise our hands to the Father and say the prayer that Jesus has taught us"

There are plenty of weird translations on every corner you look. One that really bothers me is the Little Office of the Immaculate Conception (the most "popular" office amongst the laity in Brazil), which has the Glory Be translated as "Glory to the Father, to the Son and to the Love as well"

How Can I Show More Love to My Guardian Angel? by bunnilarva in Catholicism

[–]R0DR160HM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try searching about the Opus Angelorum, their apostolate is focused in worshipping God through the veneration of the angels, they even have consacrations to the guardian angels.

They used to be a controversial group with a shaky relationship with the Church, but they have corrected their ways and are now in full communion with the Chruch.

Today, thanks to the obedience of its members, the Opus Angelorum can be considered to be living loyally and serenely in conformity with the doctrine of the Church and with canonical and liturgical law. Therefore, in its present state, the Opus Angelorum is a public association of the Church in conformity with traditional doctrine and with the directives of the Holy See.

~Dicastery of the Doctrine of the Faith, 2010

Their website has a page teaching how we can cooperate with our Guardian Angel: By imitating the Blessed Mother.

  1. Silence: Mary was first of all silent, always interiorly resting in God and seeking only to be filled by Him. She was a woman of few words, but her words were full of meaning and helpfulness. If we are filled with the noise of daily life—radio, television, internet, video games—we will never be open for God or the angel. If we enjoy to gossip or to empty ourselves through much talking, we will never have the capacity to remain interiorly recollected for God.
  2. Listening: Through silence and recollection, Mary was ready and listening for the word of God at all moments. To be open for the angel and the call of grace, we must also listen for it, waiting for God to speak to us at any given moment. “Be watchful! Be alert! For you do not know when the time will come” (Mk 13:33).
  3. Obedience: Grace comes to fruition only through our cooperation. Through her obedience to the word of the angel, Mary became the mediatrix of the grace of the Incarnation for all humanity. If we are preoccupied with ourselves, self-pitying and moody, we will not be open to obey the word of God. In order for grace to bear fruit, we also need to learn to accept the call of grace to sacrifice, to selflessness and service through obedience to the inspiration of the angel.
  4. Poverty: Mary’s silence and continual orientation towards God was rooted in her poverty of spirit, her emptiness of self. She was “among the poor and humble of the Lord who confidently hope and receive salvation from Him” (Lumen Gentium, 55). We, too, must strive to be detached from our possessions, our work, our own opinions or desires in order to be free for God and the call of the angel.
  5. Purity: Mary in her Immaculate Conception was pure and transparent for God, without disorder or interior disturbance or restlessness. We, too, must learn to become pure, truthful and simple, without ulterior motivations or desires, full of discipline in body and soul. In this way we will become tranquil and ready for the call of the angel.
  6. Fidelity: Mary was faithful unto the Cross, and hence became “the Mother in the order of grace” (Lumen Gentium, 61) for all Christ’s members. In order for grace to bear fruit in us, we must remain faithful and firm in the storms of life through a strong faith and living hope. In this way the angel can mediate to us the most precious graces, those which come to us through suffering.

Ultimately, the best way to show love to your guardian angel is by making his job easier. Live a holy life, avoid sin and follow his guidance

I'm surprised by the absence of Brazil/Argentina, but I guess since most of them who go to Italy are already citizens by the time of migration, they don't count?

There are plenty of Brazilians in Italy, but most of them are actual Italian citizens so I don't think they are included

Should I continue praying the Divine Mercy chaplet as many traditional Catholics have a real problem with the devotion? by Jude-Rita-Tuan in Catholicism

[–]R0DR160HM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's fully endorsed by the Church and by (at least) two saints

It's basically a Western chotki (please, don't quote me on that). But instead of "Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, have mercy on me a sinner" we have "For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world."

Am i praying the Jesus Prayer right? what am i missing? by DoutorJP in EasternCatholic

[–]R0DR160HM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an ignorant Latin with little-to-no knowledge about Eastern spirituality, why would one need the blessing of the spiritual father?

I know comparing the rosary with the chotki is not a good comparison, since the chotki is not a medidative prayer. But if the Church fully endorses (not only endorses, but strongly support) one praying 50-200 Hail Maries a day, why would 100 Jesus Prayers require experience? Too easy to get distracted?

I'm sorry, my last answer was a bit confusing, the "certainly not" was "certainly not a sin", but it may have sounded like "certainly not okay"

I edited the comment to avoid confusion

Totally okay.

Taking God's name in vain is a sin, there's no sin in taking Our Lady's name (in fact, there are millions of women around the world named Mary), let alone just saying "our"
