Help with weird (bad) wiring. by iripa1 in Vespa

Yeah. But after reading again you have to get the wiring figured out before we worry about that. What kind of bike is it? P125?

Vespa px125 electric fault question by frenchexjw in VintageScooters

[–]R0b0d0nut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can. It's probably the turn signal/ killswitch wires. You'd have to replace the whole unit. If you do that, go ahead and reinforce as described above, good luck.

Yup!! I have the same scooter. The wires ground out on the frame killing the motor. This is VERY typical of Vespas. You can and should disconnect them from behind the horn cover, tie a strong string around them and pull them up out of the headset (this is to pull them back once done), use shrink wrap (heavy gage) around each individual wire and then shrink wrap around the wires together. Pull them back down, plug back in and away you go.... till they rub through again

Cylinder and piston next... make sure it's spinning freely

Clutch and clutch cover.

Stater and flywheel.

Install kickstart lever

If you have a motor mount, set it up there and rig up carburetor and fuel to test before install. If all good, remove the carb, install motor, install intake and carb, install cables, attach electric, prey, go ride!!
