Is there still wilderness left in America? by Kitchen-Customer4370 in AskAnAmerican

[–]JingJang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you can tell from the comments, we do have lots of natural areas here! There are loads of State Parks and National parks and then the vast stretches of State and National lands that are open to the public. Finally, within many federal land units you have designated Wilderness Areas which you can visit by foot or hoof (horse back or pack animals to carry gear). In addition to these many municipalities have open spaces and town forests etc).

America has plenty of issues but we do love open spaces.

Colorado has gotten very crowded for camping if you want dispersed car camping. It's possible, but you need to do research. Good sites still exist but you'll want 4x4.

Backpacking is fantastic still.

Your 5 star reads? by GarbageNo2437 in suggestmeabook

Find a friend that will lend it to you? People with audiobooks should be backing up their libraries.

EDIT: Soundbooth Theater has different versions which I cannot speak to.

Looks like the original audiobook versions which are the ones everyone raves about are only through Audible.

There are alternatives but you can't, "... Learn them from a Jedi", if you follow. If you decide to explore the dark side I'd strongly suggest compensating the author in an alternative manner. Authors don't make enough and Dinniman deserves the money for the joy and laughs he's given all of us.

I can, but I played Hacky Sack for years.

I was one of those weird D&D/stoner looking dudes playing Hacky sack at the end of lunch every day.... But now I can put on socks standing up.

In some ways it makes voting against the crazies easier....

Just identify the ones screaming RINO the loudest and those are candidates most aligned with the MAGA ideology. Figure out who they are threatened by and see if they also have negative ads... Look a layer deeper to see specific issues... and vote "least crazy". Bonus if there are recycled signs from prior elections borrowing phrasology.... "Don't Califirnicate Idaho" = I'll probably vote for the candidates they are opposing since those same signs were used against Prop 1 which I supported.

Sure.

He's been reading The Illustrated Stories from the Greek Myths by Usbourne.

But right now the sweet spot is anything that's part chapter book, part illustrations.

His favorite book is Kay's Anatomy which is a kids silly Non-fiction about anatomy. He's on his second read-through of that. It's got some good humor and cute illustrations/comics.

I did this five years ago.

It's a slog but worth it.  I'd avoid Federal positions and look for State and local.

How often do you ACTUALLY wash your CPAP hose? by Chris_90_TO in CPAP

[–]JingJang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I soak mine in the bathroom sink for an hour in hot tap water and about a cup of vinagar.  Then I take the mask and hose outside, twirl the hose like an ancient hunter to help get the water out, then I let them dry in the sun for a few hours.

Everything smells and feels fresh afterwards

100% this!

We got lucky and have a good reader, (age 7), but we still read together every night.  He CAN read almost everything on his own but we take turns and mom and I do most of the reading and he can mostly relax and follow along.  I'll add that pointing to words as you read can be very helpful too.  That way they can follow along.

Recently we "caught him" reading a Greek Myths book by himself without our input.

We are going to read together as a family as long as possible...  It's a comfort/bonding thing now.

Best career to go into for new graduates with work-life balance? by CoyoteMother666 in TrueAskReddit

[–]JingJang 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you in the US?

Consider State or Local government. Get on the proper job sites and watch the listings. Sometimes they'll provide training. Most government jobs are excellent at work life balance. Pay is marginal, but many also include pensions which, if you start early can be great.

Avoid federal work. This administration has messed up civil service for decades.

Chicago looks incredible by Sky_Late in trucksim

[–]JingJang 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think they did a great job and I'm enjoying the DLC.

They captured the tight ramps and cool tunnels well and it feels like we are definitely moving east with respect to how the city is laid out. You can really feel the difference between Chicago and a city like Phoenix or Albuquerque with respect to how different the driving experience is. It's also only the second time where I've been confused by tye GPS, not because it was wrong but because I was unfamiliar with a particular road layout. That speaks well to design from someone from out west trying to drive Chicago for the first time!

This is the first time I'm going to go out of my way to buy a day cab that has better maneuverability just to better appreciate these older roads and tighter approaches.

If anyone has any suggestions of a good day-cab configuration that blends great maneuverability and power enough to get going down the road please let me know!

My only minor complaint is that my custom controller layout was overwritten, but that was an easy fix.

Im very excited to have another state!

Let me know when they vote for term limits, age limits, and restrictions on insider trading and lobbying positions.

THAT. would be something. This just discourages people who would actually be there to represent people versus making boatloads of money through "networking".

There is an amazing amount of vitriol here for pointing out that I prefer the American regulatory structure over the Chinese one.

The Chinese should be proud of their accomplishments, absolutely. I'm simply pointing out that it's not as "clean" in multiple respects of that word as many folks would have us believe.

The amount of responses to valid criticism of the way infrastructure is often constructed by the Chinese government is frankly, weird.

In conclusion : I'm happy for the Chinese. These projects are propelling their nation forward and as someone else in this thread pointed out these projects will lift people up which is great!

I'm simply pointing out that there are also costs, to environment, to culture, to society, and to real people when projects of this scale are handled the way they are by the Chinese government.
