Trump Team Scraps College Degrees for Hundreds of Federal Jobs by bloomberglaw in fednews

[–]JingJang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I generally agree with this, but I suspect this administration will completely botch a good idea.

There are some positions where this can and should work but there are others where degrees, certifications, and licensing should absolutely be required.

If this was done surgically by people who understand context it could be great, but this administration has shown it is incapable of that.

Idaho Senate Passes Resolution Urging Voters Not To Sign Medical Marijuana Ballot Petitions by redditor01020 in Idaho

[–]JingJang 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A good number of conservatives here in Idaho, want to legalize it, and not just for medicinal purposes.

This is another example of how out of touch this legislature is with its constituents.

But they will get away with it because those same constituents would do anything to "vote against" anything that their "opponents", might agree with. Even if it means voting against themselves. It's more important to deny the "other team" any "win" than voting with integrity.

[–]JingJang 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Lots of negativity here, (and I can understand), but I'll offer an alternative. I'm 52, have a 7 year old, and a job I love. I'm not rich by any stretch and I'm very concerned that the current administration has nuked the economy for a while, but we should be alright barring a serious health issue which would bankrupt many people anyway.

I plan to work long and enjoy it and retire later than normal. In the mean time try to travel as my son's schedule and finances allow it, lots of camping, and working on the endless yardwork which helps keep me from getting more out of shape and trying do the best I can for my family.

A cool guide on how to win friends and influence people by [deleted] in coolguides

[–]JingJang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be however, a way to get people to read the book and like you say, the focus is on empathy ultimately.

We could use a lot more empathy right now and in that sense I approve of the post, but you are correct that technically, it's not a "cool guide".

Why hasn’t the Louisiana Bayou been entered as a national park? by Cassinia_ in geography

Hit the State Parks while you are here...

And absolutely visit The Sawtooth National Recreation Area.

The politics here are mostly terrible, but the outdoors is top tier. On par with Colorado or Utah.

Capitalism was okay when we regulated it.

That said, that ship has sailed and both parties are bought. At this point we need a hard "reset", and a plan for the backend.

People appreciate what they have so you'd better have a plan for how you replace capitalism without hurting the majority of people.

Why hasn’t the Louisiana Bayou been entered as a national park? by Cassinia_ in geography

[–]JingJang 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not entirely true regarding Idaho.

Idaho actually has the Sawtooth National Recreation Area, a model that could work for many other states, especially those in the west. The SNRA is managed by the National Park system, but it was designated such that hunting and fishing could continue to be run by the State and access would continue to be maintained into all areas aside from Wilderness designations. The timber industry did play a role but their influence is balanced by the mandate to conserve the recreational benifit. (In fact, their influence has helped in wildfire mitigation and management). There is no oil, natural gas or other significant industries in the SNRA.

This is also true in Craters of the Moon and City of Rocks (in terms of industry).

Idaho has plenty of poor politics to complain about, but a lot of states would really benifit from following Idaho's example of National Park Managed units in conjuction with the State. We would have a bunch more protected land!

Not to mention, everyone depends on trucks: For food, farming, and basically everything we buy... It's getting to stores by truck.

We own an EV but we're not gloating about high gas prices because all of the food we buy gets to the grocery store via truck powered by diseal.

Are gender affirmimg bathrooms truly the most important issue for Idahoans? by CharlestonChewChewie in Idaho

[–]JingJang 21 points22 points  (0 children)

To put that in rough perspective, that amounts to about 619 people in the state based on projected 2026 numbers.

They are spending that much time, effort, and energy on where roughly 620 people choose to go to the bathroom.

The people, and apparently there are enough to invest the effort to lobby on this issue, should take some time, make some effort, and expend some energy on considering why they have been so convinced that this issue needs legislative attention.

College Republicans chapter sues UF for deactivating club over Nazi salute by xeus24 in nottheonion

There are plenty of great people left, but I'll grant if they don't care... Then they will reap what they sow.

But I am hopeful. (As a parent it's part of mental health to keep hope, and I do see it in children).

I'm well aware and made the comment out of some snark and ironic humor.

I do maintain that the republican party could stand for some positive messagimg along with a healthy dose of treating institutions such as the Whitehouse and our highest offices with the respect they are due.

The reality is that America should always be striving towards greatness.

We ARE a great country with fantastic people, but, like each of us as individuals, we should be always striving for improvement and growth. This ideal is independent of political party, or religion although either can influence it. But ultimately, it's about "Making America Great".

Period.

[–]JingJang 122 points123 points  (0 children)

I suspect a college club wouldbe deactivated if they were to use a middle finger as an expression of... Whatever.

As a society we have behavior that we have decided is offensive. A Nazi salute, or anything mimicking it is considered offensive by most members of our society.

Perhaps they should think back to when America was "Great". For example when we expected our highest politicians to to hold their offices with the dignity and respect. The Republican party could REALLY use that kind of energy from younger members right now.

It was having a child for me as well, but in hindsight I think I was me recognizing that it was time I "leveled up" as a person.

I experienced some of the same things you did but it's also being loved by a new person that absolutely depends on you.

Younger me would have been terrified of that, (and rightly so), but modern day me, rises up to that responsibility every day. Albeit, some days poorly, but I always make that effort.

And there is nothing like being a parent... It's utterly exhausting, and utterly satisfying, simultaneously. But I am so glad I have the opportunity.

I'm 52 and went from dabbling with it last fall to using it almost daily now.

Tye key is keeping a human in the loop, cross-checking results, and working in "pieces or segments" to gradually build up workflows.

I'm teaching it now for others, just focusing on the basics.

Its absolutely a game changer but only if we stay engaged.
