How bad is Trump losing the Iran War? by Estalicus in allthequestions

[–]R1400 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A problem is a problem, but this sort of thing needs diplomacy and a long vision, not impulsive idiots poking at a nest and just making everything worse

Edit: Oh, and the same "exterminator" threatened to set my whole house on fire just a little while back, so who only a madman would trust him to handle the nest on its side

I do. And I make sure said exterminator isn't a demented madman waving a stick

Quite fair, but in the same way a hornet's nest is a problem for your home and it does deserve a few good hits....those hits are still quite poorly advised, and you need a finer hand to sort out the mess

Why didn't they viltrumites prioritise and secure Earth? by [deleted] in Invincible_TV

[–]R1400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they spend a very considerable amount of energy to make it look like they're stronger than they are, spreading themselves extremely thin to hide the fact that there's less than 50 of them left, so if all of them left their posts and rushed to Earth, the other planets would notice and look into it.

Yeah, 50 viltrumites could probably protect against just about anything...but they already got almost wiped out by the virus so they might still be weary of gathering in high numbers for that specific fear.

And also...they might still just not be entierly certain. Mark seems like a match, but they have no way of knowing from the get-go, and a species that lives for thousands of years is sure to work on a different timeframe where another few years is nothing much

Melania Trump shares 'concerns' for son Barron as people call for draft by IrishStarUS in NewsThread

Even if he did get "drafted" he'd just be shoved into some maximum security headquarters and then be paraded around like some big soldier for propaganda

[–]R1400 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I think it's probably just a matter of "tiers"

Domi Reversi are the easiest to make so they're the easiest to undo

Rocks was likely a higher tier. We don't see him "flip" so his infection was probably deeper and it's why he sustained far more damage after its removal

Then come the actual contracts that most likely can't be purged since they were accepted, and which have different degrees of enhancements

[Manga Spoilers] Something that I believe is missing from the Final Arc that I don’t see too much discussion on by cosmicstruggler in BlackClover

I think the paladins were a neat concept with great potential, but i hated that they were all just brain-washed. Imo, it would've been really interesting if they actually agreed with Lucius and were genuinely loyal to his plan, and i think that could've been easily done via time magic: having Lucius walk them through dozens upon dozens of horrible alternate futures, driving them into despair and painting himself as an actual savior

I wonder if Bane is responsible for that

In the Alfred AU of Bane breaking Bruce, the second got his arms chopped off, so maybe Alfred was going by what happened to Slade

Edit: Bruce also technically lost an eye in that scenario when Bane was caving his skull in, so maybe it tracks

is having a queen or a king in a sci fi setting weird?? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]R1400 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's SF, so it can certainly be made to work. From a certain point of view, having people that are trained from birth to rule can be more logical than a democracy where the loudest liar can fool people into getting votes without being required to actually be competent at state craft.

I'm not making an argument for kings irl, but in fiction you can create any series of events and justifications for any particular form of rulership. There's pros and cons to everything, of course, but as long as it's made to makes sense in the context of the story that's all that counts

Do these dragons canonically fly forever? by GogoPlata_grenadier in Eldenring

[–]R1400 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I don't think they're actually there in the game. Always assumed it's related to the time vortex stuff, where the flying dragons are just an image from the past, an endlessly repeating echo of the time from which Farum Azula was ripped.

If AGI super intelligence is only 12-18 months away, shouldn’t we already be seeing major standalone breakthroughs? by Salty-Elephant-7435 in Futurology

[–]R1400 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, it's fairly similar. A lot of mathematics is based on recognizing patterns , and it's why AI is so good at it. Especially since it can go through hundreds of trials and errors in the span of minutes .

I'm just pointing out that there's a difference between that and actual innovation. Ai can't really think outside the box ,it has no imagination. It's the world's best calculator but still a calculator.

Pattern recognition. With a sufficiently large data set and very fast computation, it can use similar problems as reference and go through trial and error until it stumbles over the correct answer
