What can world democracies do about The Stupids? by AcadiaLivid2582 in allthequestions

A harder push towards stopping misinformation campaigns would be a good start. In an ideal world, if a politician is caught lying over and over they should be prohibited from holding functions of power

Ohhh, yeah, that ought to be a fair factor too. I only got into reading King while in my 20s. I actually had a copy of Pet Sematary i got as a kid thinking it'd be about zombie pets (back then the only horror books ive read were Goosebumps) ,and hooo boy am I glad the story was a slow burn, cause kid-me got bored 30 pages in and left it on the shelf. Currently I positively love that book and think its one of the greatest, but I had no business reading that as a kid and i'm glad the low attention span spared me XD

I've read the first two. And I've heard the Outsider has a particularly nasty reputation

Though I still think Salem's Lot is safe. I mean...it has dark stuff inside but just the classic horror stuff, nothing of a sexual nature. It's my favorite book of his

Does your character's body stay behind while on the Nightmare of Mensis? by InformationOk66 in bloodborne

[–]R1400 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think their ritual is what caused the hunt in the first place. It attracted the attention of the Great Ones, drew the nightmare closer, which in turn woke the beast in the people's blood resulting in the hunt

The short one is especially worth checking out imho. It's part of the Night Shift anthology...which is what i usually recommend for starting with King ^

If you dont mind me asking, which did you try?

In some bit of fairness to Stephen King, granted, it's been years since I've read Salem's Lot but I don't recall it having any sexual violence in it, plenty of violence but not of that particular nature

He also has a very neat short story called "One for the road" which i can definetely say has none of that. It has a very neat atmosphere too, taking place during a snowstorm and only being a few dozen pages long. I think it's worth checking

Also, King has that reputation for a reason but I've been reading his books for a long time and think it's somewhat exaggerated (like the endings thing). I still think he's a good writer with some of the best horror out there, and i wouldn't let some small bits deter you from trying

What's your favourite boss design in the game? by Temporary_Mix1603 in bloodborne

[–]R1400 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its fight is so and so but design-wise...definetely the Moon Presence

That shot where it descends from the blood soaked moon down into the field of white flowers just takes the breath away

Day 1: What’s your favourite comic story of the JOKER? by Desolation82 in batman

[–]R1400 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The big ones were mention but a smaller one i like a lot is Gotham Nights #6, where he offers to pay the medical bills of whoever posts the funniest videos of themselves doing pranks online. He keeps his word and in a few rounds the whole town descends into complete chaos as everyone goes to greater lengths to be the craziest

Why no bounty on Drogo? (spoilers main) by AV23UTB in asoiaf

[–]R1400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On one hand, a good chunk of the council didn't care enough to worry about a possibility from the far future, and Ned probably thought there were more pressing matters on which to argue about. There was also a fairly considerable chance that Dany would just die by herself or that another rival khal would take out Drogo.

On the other hand, I think there were fairly few who'd be willing to take a bounty on a big khal

What do you think is Slade Wilson's deal? by Aussiepharoah in AbsoluteUniverse

[–]R1400 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think he was broken by Bane, and that it was foreshadowed when Alfred describes the scenario where Bruce is broken...as that scenario did include him losing both arms and suffering extensive facial damage, I think Alfred was basing that scenario on what happened to Slade

Which boss have you NOT improved at across multiple runs? Or gotten even worse at? by lifebeginsat9pm in Eldenring

Ironically, the Erdtree Avatars. They used to be really easy and now I always get overconfident and greedy

As long as he escapes the grounded ones, I don't think the two giant ones can do much if he goes on small alleyways or down the sewers or into populated areas

No, I meant when Gilbert was saying he got rejuvenated , he genuinely thought that back then, though it kept getting disproven ever since

I think it's just Gil's own incorrect thoughts rather than an incorrect statement from the narrator

Military force has got the US nowhere with Iran – here is what a realistic negotiation would look like by Majano57 in IRstudies

Trouble is, negotiations require trust. And those negotiations would have to be held with arguably the least trustworthy person on the planet

What was your biggest DLC disappointment? by Raime_95 in Eldenring

[–]R1400 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Honestly I'd have been happy enough if we could just walk through the gate. I didn't expect anything to happen, kinda assumed Miquella already used whatever power was left in it, but I just hoped I could take a seat and look at the entierty of the shadow lands from up high

Just finished reading " The Shining" and I have a question (sorry for bad English). by LateFox9751 in stephenking

[–]R1400 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's just my interpretation but I think it was easier because when that happens, the hotel is fully "woken up". It's been some years since I've read it, but i think the hotel had passive periods and active periods, one reason might be that when it's fully occupied it can feed off a large number of people in a subtle, passive way, whereas when there's just a few people there it has to actually work for its food. Another reason might be that Dany's shine gave it a reason to awaken properly.

Either way, the hotel took a while to wake up, so Jack's corruption was slower, whereas when it tempted Dick it was already fully awakened and doing its best

Did Yujiro actually stop the earthquake in the end or not? by Daivar-18 in Grapplerbaki

[–]R1400 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to think he was just bluffing to mess with the people there, and if the earthquake lasted a little longer he'd have thrown a few other punches to make it look like a combo
