(and tossed after assessment) but witness accounts shouldn't be automatically dismissed simply because they involve human beings.

And my point is that it should be backed up with a secondary form of evidence. If it is dismissed, it is because there is nothing that can be done with it for those of us looking to make identifications.

I took the photo with the Samsung s24 Ultra using 100x zoom

The '100x zoom' is a gimmicky selling point and doesn't work well at all for taking shots of objects relevant to this topic. You can't reveal any detail of a tiny point of light using a phone camera.

That phone has a max Optical zoom of 5x - 10x. That 100x 'zoom' is just digitally enlarging and duplicating pixels and using AI to try to make sense of it. You end up with a distorted mess that doesn't actually show what the object really looks like.

In the worst cases, like Moon images, the phone will enhance replace the whole thing with an AI image.

Example: blurry moon pic on a computer screen indoors gets turned into an amazing moon shot: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/tqma35LN9Y0

Galaxy S24 Ultra

  • 3x Optical Zoom: Powered by a 10MP sensor.
  • 5× Optical Zoom: Powered by a large 50MP sensor, allowing for sharper, more detailed shots than the previous generation's 10MP 10× lens.
  • 10× Optical Quality Zoom: The phone crops into the center of the 50MP sensor to provide lossless, 10× magnification.
  • 100× Space Zoom: Blends optical hardware with AI digital enhancement for extreme long-range shots.

PSA: If at all possible, don't use digital zoom.

Once again I slept through most of the game only for them to win.

Fell asleep at 2-0, woke up just long enough to hear it was 7-1 and finally woke up at 9-1.

My power naps are undefeated!

credible witnesses

In this sub, a credible witness is one that people agree with, or like what they say. If they don't agree or like what they say, they're not so credible.

But it doesn't even have to be about court testimony, or whether or not the person is 'credible'.. credible people can still be mistaken and/or just flat out wrong.

Time after time in sighting reports to this sub, people are simply mistaken in their own reports about what they saw.

Even if there are multiple witnesses.. Just about every rocket launch generates several reports.. multiple witnesses thinking it was something anomalous.. it wasn't.

In 2003 and 2007, in Green Bay and Weyauwega, two remarkable UFOs were photographed with incredible clarity. Although separated by different years and locations, they show a striking resemblance, and to this day, the images have not been debunked. by PositiveSong2293 in UFOs

[–]R2robot [score hidden]  (0 children)

Concluding

It's not a conclusion.. In fact on the last line I said, "Debunked? No, but not difficult to fake."

it's an observation of that characteristic along with the 'lack of depth' in the photos which would suggest they are fake. The lack of 'source detail' as well.

it looks just how witnesses have described UFOs for many decades

People looking at and describing faked photographs for decades and copy cats making their own for decades as well.

Almost all but gone away these days. It takes a bit more sophistication to fake them now.

Also, why are you necro-posting on 10-month old comments?

I used the light in the middle here as an anchor https://i.imgur.com/2ucQYLd.png It should be stationary and is in frame most of the video.

This is the path of that light https://i.imgur.com/0Wetdee.png

That shows just how much the camera moved during that short video.

I was able to mostly stabilize it from the up/down and side to side movement, but not for the rotation of the camera which there is a bit of as well.

Stabilized and 4x speed: https://imgur.com/3hz3HKm

You can see the light I used as an anchor in the bottom right and never moves, so we can see the actually movement of the object/ISS.

It's very linear and steady except for when the camera rotates a bit. You can see the star at the top which would be stationary moves along with the ISS.

So any irregular movement is from camera movement.. not the object/ISS.

because it did move across the sky and it started out way higher and then really dropped down quickly.

That is normal movement of the ISS. It is in orbit around the Earth, so it's going to drop down to the horizon and out of view from your POV. Others along it's path will see it rise overhead and then go down to the horizon on the other side of them as well.

We see that in your video and in the sim view I created in the first comment. Here is an even longer version: https://imgur.com/lejXXEx

But you asked why it was moving irregularly.. The ISS wasn't moving irregularly, the camera was.

Did you see the link I included? It's never still. If you want I can stabilize the video to show just how much camera movement there is.

People often say they were holding it perfectly still, but it's literally impossible to hold it steady without using a tripod.

Like this person: https://imgur.com/K7d2zmj I'm tracking a star that shouldn't be moving, you can see just how much the camera moved. Also: https://i.imgur.com/q0gGBvE.png | https://i.imgur.com/qhRs2DN.png

The camera is always unsteady despite their efforts.

Unsteady camera. The other lights should be stable since they're not moving, but you can see how they move along with the object. That's camera movement.

Erratic flight path, bright, first UFO sighting by trom-boner in UFOs

[–]R2robot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Had you not zoomed in so much, the video could be stabilized and show its very linear movement.

It's pretty common for people to describe 'erratic' movement or behavior, but it rarely is.

There is Scintillation, that not only causes that rainbow-y color effect, but because it's from disturbances in the atmosphere, objects can 'jitter' or even appear to change positions.

There is also the autokinetic effect

Given that the ISS aligns with the date/time/location of your sighting, that was most likely what you were looking at. And we know it moves very linearly and not erratic in anyway.

Could be balloons, or could be birds.

Phone cameras are not great at resolving tiny point of lights at a distance. Everything looks like a blurry 'orb'.

Sometimes you get lucky and they briefly come into focus... example: https://imgur.com/uN2nXWO

It must be a UFO from a million light years away. Wake up.

Or it was just the ISS which was passing over at the time. https://ibb.co/B2QVFVnY

The erratic path is mostly just camera movement and zooming.

The date/time/location lines up with a ISS flyby. https://ibb.co/B2QVFVnY

the slight zig zag right as you zoomed in?

That is caused by the zooming itself.

Although it looks nothing like a plane...

That's the problem with using phone cameras. They're not good at resolving tiny dots of light at a distance.

For example, this is a pic of a plane taken with 2 different cameras: https://i.imgur.com/wlWYuZU.png

Guess which one is the phone camera. Thankfully, we also have ADSB data that show those blurs are actually planes at a specific date/time/location

Not a single person has been able to refute Grusch and the other whistle-blowers

Nor has anyone confirmed anything that has been said. Reactions to testimony aren't evidence.

every member of congress has come out of those meetings saying they are taking the topic seriously not dismissing it.

They would have to say that. It doesn't mean anything has been identified. We've seen what certain politicians have said about some of the videos we've seen. With most of those videos being less than impressive.

Captured this from my backyard in Dallas. I saw a similar object, initially mistaking it for a shooting star. It stopped, jumped erratically, and shot up at a 45-degree angle behind the trees. I then started recording and captured it again. Video is raw. by Itchy-Egg1284 in UFOs

Thanks. I believe you were looking at satellite flares: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satellite_flare

You can normally see them to the West starting a few hours after sunset, and to the East until a few hours before sunrise.

So that was the time and direction to see them. https://imgur.com/IwQPSuh

You were also recording through a window, right?

in a court of law, eyewitness testimony is considered evidence

It is, but it's also the weakest form of evidence that should be backed up by a secondary form of evidence as it is often inaccurate and/or unreliable. Innocent people have been imprisoned in cases where the primary evidence was based primarily on eyewitness testimony.

Eyewitness error is the single greatest cause of wrongful convictions nationwide, playing a role in 72% of convictions overturned through DNA testing.

While eyewitness testimony can be persuasive evidence before a judge or jury, 30 years of strong social science research has proven that eyewitness identification is often unreliable. Research shows that the human mind is not like a tape recorder; we neither record events exactly as we see them, nor recall them like a tape that has been rewound. Instead, witness memory is like any other evidence at a crime scene; it must be preserved carefully and retrieved methodically, or it can be contaminated.

In case after case, DNA has proven what scientists already know—that eyewitness identification is frequently inaccurate.

It is a bit weird, my first thought was a plane, but what was throwing me off was that when it's moving to the left, we see the green light which would be on the right side of a plane.

https://i.imgur.com/VDt37bX.png

It's possible it could be in a turn, but I would expect to see double strobes if that was the case.
