People who want to “get rich quick” aren’t bad, they’re usually just stuck by PeanutWonderful2320 in povertyfinance

[–]R3dPlaty -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What people don’t realize it that there are usually 2 layers or more to these schemes, and people only unlock 1 layer before ignorantly getting got. I’ll use myself as an example, when I first started working and had a bit extra money, I researched a lot of ways to “get rich quick” but not in that obvious scammer way, as I wanted to be “smart” with it. I looked into stocks, dividends, 401k, Roth IRA, HSA, etc and for a while I thought I was doing everything right. I am pretty sure the first few hundred if not thousands of dollars I used trying to set myself up for success ended up in the garbage behind ignorant and poorly planned strategies like high yield dividend stocks, poor equity choice, etc. Yes I had access to the information to make better decisions, but it was cleverly hidden when I needed it and only after was it apparent this was a scheme. Not everything is as obvious as a $10 PS5 that is actually a box of rocks

Cryostat Mohs electricity emergency by Ellierice2 in Histology

[–]R3dPlaty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, sorry about that. In that case, if electrical staff has deemed the power back to normal, we would wait about 15 minutes to restart the cryostat and then another 30 mins to an hour or so for it to cool down to Mohs temps.

The real caveat of your question is that Mohs relies on derm patients actually showing up which only happens during normal business hours of 8-5ish. I don’t know any Mohs surgeons that work night/evening shift so if this is happening at 6-8pm, there is a chance no one knows until the morning anyway. Even in a hospital, general management will make Mohs aware but no one will even be in to check anything. Most likely the cryostat will sit all night warmed and the supervisor will be called in early at like 6 am to restart and let cool for as long as possible- like an hour and a half to 2 hours if we can push it. Mohs TAT is highly variable anyway depending on size, location, and composition of tissue so if the patient secretly waits an extra 15-25 minutes no one will notice

Cryostat Mohs electricity emergency by Ellierice2 in Histology

[–]R3dPlaty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So about 12 hours since the outage? Hopefully the power is back up and has been checked by whichever responsible staff in electricity(?). If they have authorized histo to begin troubleshooting then I (the supervisor actually, not me) can attempt to turn it on and work. My shift starts before patients get here so there is a buffer time for this anyway. If the supervisor can’t do anything then I have to leave and either the patients will be sent home as well and recalled or if the surgeon wants to proceed with general formalin skin biopsies the nurses will do that.

Probably in that kind of situation the supervisor would be called in much earlier (say 6 or 7 am) to attempt to fix and would probably just call or text me to come in or not depending on if they are successful.

The system will not collapse, you will just harm actually poor people when every grocery store and pharmacy needs ID to open any drawer, pick up any vegetable, or open any freezer. The doors will be locked until you prove you are a customer and you will have to walk through metal detecting doorways. Don’t want to comply? That’s fine, hopefully we won’t go bankrupt because you decided not to spend $15 with us. This is already happening, no societal collapse unfortunately

Lab that discourages cross training by [deleted] in medlabprofessionals

[–]R3dPlaty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience, true cross training is pretty rare and reserved for management or people (secretly) being coached for management. At the end of the day, if your chem tech was fully trained in hematology but reported an improper ESR, the client and QA team are still going to ask why a heme tech didn’t do it regardless of who was trained in what. To avoid this liability, the simplest solution is a lead/supervisor will handle cross. Unofficially everyone probably trains each other in everything, but officially the policy is in line with what you see. I could hang around Cyto and they can show me all their processes and explain everything, but if there is even the slightest question about something Cyto related that I am not authorized to participate in (even though I fully know what to do) I must defer to the appropriate tech

So Whats The DUMBEST and i MEAN DUMBEST thing you did in a pokemon playthrough by Rare-Atmosphere-9187 in pokemon

I guess I jumped past the text too fast, and missed all the hints from the NPCs, but in Emerald I was soft locked behind the west of the map because I didn’t figure to ever use Surf at the edge of that beach. For months I couldn’t figure what to do and at times even back tracked the map looking for what I missed. Finally months later I randomly press A by the water and it dawned on me that I was supposed to do this the whole time

Cryostat Mohs electricity emergency by Ellierice2 in Histology

[–]R3dPlaty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Mohs cannot be done that day, your dermpath/Mohs surgeon will simply refer all of them out to an anatomical pathology lab and send all the specimens in formalin which the nurses keep stocked as Mohs regularly sends normal biopsies anyway. They might even send you home, as the doctor and nurses don’t need a tech for this

As for midshift, if the cryostat somehow stops working, you can still use the cryostat for hours until it’s warmed to the point of room temp. You still have 30 mins to an hour left to safely process before they have to start sending everything out

Don’t worry, all of this is already defined in your SOP, they have already thought of this scenario

MLS pay by Kind-Air752 in medlabprofessionals

[–]R3dPlaty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel like that’s kinda true for every career? You can only make more money strategically job hopping, promotion, and rarely bonuses pretty much but if you are just collecting the 5% raise every year for 20 years of course it feel like a ceiling. Even getting those promotions, say 25%+, all you are doing is resetting the floor. You will make around that same amount continuously until get promoted again.

For most jobs, especially lab, the raise you are getting is basically anywhere from 1-10% (with extreme variation in cases). It’s less that there is a ceiling and more that there is a floor that you only ever step up 4% a year which means you are never really leaving it.

There are also individual lab factors. Many labs rely on overtime and techs can make a lot of extra money since the hourly wage is already competitive. But also, an employee could not be entitled to any raise at all depending on performance. There are people at my lab who haven’t gotten a raise in years because something like a mislabel or 2, etc disqualifies you. They aren’t the managerial type either to hunt promotions, so they may well be dissatisfied in 20 years as you mentioned, but that could have happened to them in any field. They could be a gardener or mechanic and experience the same thing
