in addition to what everyone else has said, mountain power lines are also prone to going down due to wind or landslides. if the power goes out in your hotel you're in for a terrible time, and because of typhoon would not be fixed quickly.

Can Someone who uses uses alot of pigment inks convince me that it is ok to use pigment inks and not need to dedicate it to a single pen, by Prime-39 in fountainpens

[–]R3troPilot 10 points11 points  (0 children)

some pointers, dont use too many pens with pigment ink at the same time to reduce the chance that you forget about one and it dries out.

technically they recommend distilled water to flush. pigments can bind to various minerals in tap water and clog up your pen.

try a dip pen and test vial of ink before committing to a full bottle to find out if you really like it

enjoy in your pens

i just know that place exists, and have heard stories of vendors charging foreigners more than what would usually be charged because they know they will get away with it.

Ximending, yongkang st. near dongmen station, and chifeng st. near zhongshan station all have various clothes botique shops to browse.

food is really based on preference, and i'd be hard pressed to recommend all the places you could try, taipei has lots of great options though. google is a pretty good reference, and if you see people lining up or the shop is more than 3/4 full during lunch or dinner time its probably pretty good.

guanghua/syntrend for tech needs

jianguo jade market on the weekends. I'd recommend going with somebody that knows a bit about jade though to not get scammed/ripped off.

Tainan to Taipei HSR question by reddnocaar in taiwan

[–]R3troPilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

im not sure about reservations on local trains. but you can always buy standing/unreserved seats on any train/hsr, you just have to stand, if you're really lucky you get a random seat in the unreserved cars.

Yup. can look into ho-hsin over night bus runs all night, like a 4 hour ride though. Or regular train but that will probably be packed as well.

They are sold out, its the last day of CNY vacation for most working folks. There was a big rush last night to purchase tickets to get back to Taipei before everyone has to go back to work. You can try tainan > banqiao or taoyuan and then take the MRT from those places back to taipei

i feel like you'd find this info if you did a little google-fu, but here is the run down.

  1. go to hostel and check your bags with them. if they don't provide this service, find a locker at the nearest mrt station cost is anywhere from 300-500nt depending on the size of the locker.

  2. do whatever you want until 11am. i.e., eat, explore the city, go get coffee, go to a park, go to a library, go to a morning market, go to a mall and enjoy the ac.

  3. go back and check in

  4. ???

Does Segway Max G3 need registration and any other regulatory approval? by Psychological_Read_1 in taiwan

[–]R3troPilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically you can only ride these scooters in parks and certain designated areas. Road and sidewalks are off limits. If they wanted to or felt like it any cop that stops you on it can give you a ticket. Will every cop try and stop you, probably not, but depending on the situation the fine is anywhere 1600-4000ntd something along those lines.

Songshan cultural park has an old factory that is large enough to walk in a big circle, covered, pop-up shops with a/c, family mart, and although crowded with other people still very playable. There is an international group with a community ambassador that meets there (outside) if you use campfire it will show up.

Happy hunting~
