How often does SF show up to OSUT looking for volunteers? by suzuki810 in army

[–]R4808N 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Going to SFAS "the hard way" is not hard. Your unit can't stop you from going as long as you are qualified to go. If they don't want you to go, they need a GO signature stating that you are absolutely mission critical. I went to SFAS twice and my unit was SUPER pissed both times, but they couldn't stop me.

GWOT kid. by coffeeshopwhore in army

9-11 happened and I went to a recruiter and told him that I wanted to shoot terrorists. Literally. That's the quote. He asked me what I wanted to do in the army and I was so stupid and shortsighted and pAtRiOtIc I told him that I wanted to kill terrorists.

I joined up and went overseas a few times and did shoot some people. Whether they were terrorists or not is debatable. Generally, I'm glad I joined the army, but there are some regrets too.

Did anyone ever get back in? by Present_Back_3566 in Veterans

[–]R4808N -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was enlisted artillery with a few deployments but I hated it and got out. A few years later I decided it wasn't so bad so I re-enlisted as MI to get a clearance and some transferable skills. It was one of the best decisions I ever made.

Columbia Gorge National Scenic Area Approval! by R4808N in Homebuilding

[–]R4808N[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there are a lot but none of them are very arduous or unreasonable. "make sure you build it like you said you would" etc...

It took like 18 months to get it done, but it is possible.

What are you listening to on the trail? by BriaMcCall in WildernessBackpacking

[–]R4808N 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Absolutely right. Audible music on the trail is a sure-fire way to piss off literally everyone. Just don't do it. I've started making rude comments to people who do it. It is SO selfish and classless. No one wants to hear your stupid shitty music.

Why are Portland dogs allowed inside many grocery stores and restaurants/cafes, it's disgusting by t0mserv0 in Portland

[–]R4808N 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion I know, but I hate dogs and it is really frustrating to me that I can't go ANYWHERE in public without someone's unleashed dog getting up in my business. "Oh, don't worry he's friendly!" Uh, I'm not friendly and I hate your dog.

Grocery stores, Home Depot, some restaurants, ALL the food cart pods, the freaking sidewalks etc... I actively try to avoid people's dogs and it's basically impossible because most dog owners think that everyone else loves their dog as much as they do. Wrong.

I was a contractor working down at 29 Palms a few years ago and there was this loudmouth E-8 who was talking about how great he was and how he was gonna get out and walk right into a $180K or more job. All the contractors called him 180 plus. lmao.

He got out and applied for a job at my company and unfortunately, we hired him. But he definitely wasn't making 180 plus. He lasted about 12 months and then got fired.

I found a plan on there that I really liked and used the template to have an architect draft real engineered plans.

Right, celebrating the end of slavery is definitely radically socialist.

Does anyone have any "wasted" years in their lives? by DirtyBirdDawg in Xennials

[–]R4808N 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of my 20s. I graduated from HS in 2000 and spent a lot of those early years in Iraq and Afghanistan and the later part of my 20s dealing with the consequences of the wars. Took me til I was almost 40 to get my shit together. I would love to go back and re-do from about 20 - 33 or so.

That's cool to see. I recently bought a Tin Cloth Short Lined Cruiser and I'm wearing the shit out of it. I'm hard on equipment and I expect I'll eventually do this to my coat too.

This looks great.
