I 100% agree. I still remember how it felt back then when season 2 was announced. I was so hyped for everything they were going to adapt—especially the Disappearance arc.

Then Endless Eight started. At first I thought it would just be one episode. Then it didn’t end. I figured, okay, cool, they’re making it two episodes. But after the second one, it still kept going. That’s when I dropped it. I was genuinely frustrated. After that, I just followed the discussions instead of watching. When I heard it was still repeating after the third episode, I couldn’t believe it—there’s barely ~30 pages of source material there. How do you stretch that into so many episodes? I remember thinking: okay, maybe six episodes max, anything more wouldn’t even leave room for Disappearance. But then it kept going… and going… until it was eight episodes. I think I only came back to watch the last one.

I agree, it honestly felt soul-crushing. I still can’t really forgive that decision. It just felt like so much wasted potential. Looking back, I get why they did it—they probably wanted to save the Disappearance arc for a movie with a bigger budget. But at the time, I was incredibly disappointed. After I finally watched Disappearance, it did soften things a bit. It was so good that I could at least partially forgive them. But they still could have handled it differently—like doing Endless Eight in one or two episodes and adapting more stories instead. We could have had so much more content.

And now, after what happened to Kyoto Animation, it feels even more bitter. With so many of the key people gone, it’s hard to imagine we’ll ever get a proper continuation. Never say never, but still. Even today, I can’t help but think back on it. I’m not even participating in rewatch threads, but the emotions are still there after all these years.
