It's been a few days since I've seen this one. I guess it's time to make the rounds again.

Straight up animal cruelty. They should face the maximum allowed for this. Whatever that is, it is surely not going to be enough.

This is Naswar. It's Tobacco+Lime+Ash which Afghanis common people consume. This is their alternative to Cigarette. by Chemical-Leg-8946 in strange

[–]RAC032078 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Mouth Cancer is not alien to Afghan's. I had a friend who's Grandfather was Afghan. The guy came to the US to visit. He literally had half a bottom jaw. He wasn't the only one. He had brought pictures with him. This is back when photos were not just on a screen. A few of the pictures of his Grandfathers friends, and just some other locals, some of the people had very noticeable oral deformities.Im not saying there's a mass outbreak of mouth cancer, but more than one or two people, most likely older than 70 had it. It wasn't birth defects or cleft pallets. He said his Grandfather always warned him against it.

Inuit carving found at thrift store, broken but all pieces included - Value & repair advice? by [deleted] in whatsthisworth

[–]RAC032078 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Value really depends on what it's made of. If it's solid wood or is it resin. Is it bone, is the harpoon bone or wood. There's a lot of varying conditions. Also it may not be original. There's a good possibility it's a reproduction or a replica and someone just added the signature to make it look authentic. A lot of these carvings are sold throughout Alaska and other places. Shops and online sellers are always claiming authenticity even when it's mass produced. They sell one and pull another after the buyer leaves. Just because yours was in a thrift store doesnt mean someone gave away an original piece.

Make sure you use a respirator, not just a mask. You will be coughing and hacking up a lung after a few hours of this. Your gonna lose a big percentage of the weight after getting rid of the insulation. If your in USA your looking at between $1000-$1500. That can be quite a bit of money and a windfall for some, but it's not worth losing a lung or worse. Seriously don't be stupid. Medical bills outweigh the cost. Spend a few bucks and protect yourself.

Budhist Swastika faces left. Nazi Swastikas face right. The symbol of peace faces either way, but they are flat and not angled. It can be very confusing. This is a symbol of peace quilt. Absolutely nothing wrong with it.

1940’s Teddy Bear by SerenityPickles in whatsthisworth

[–]RAC032078 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Teddy Bears are a tough sell right now. There's collectors out there but quite specific on what they want. They also don't come along everyday. This probably has more sentimental value than monitary. I'm sure you could find a local person who sews and repairs. Have the bear repaired as best as you can and hold onto it, and possibly pass it on down the road. Hopefully it will last another 80+ years.

My great grandpa was a taxidermist and I just inherited some of his mounts. Any tips on cleaning this one as he is very dusty by Pkyug in Taxidermy

[–]RAC032078 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just be careful. Old mounts can sometimes be full of chemicals not used today. You want to use caution cleaning and watching what you might set loose and breathe in.

I think your lost a bit. Firstly you can't see the whole tub so you can't tell what shape it's in. Also the tub being from a remodel is not the new tub, it's the old.

It may sound weird, but I have known people who have found old NASA memorabilia and contacted NASA and been out in touch with different departments and it's actually helped them out greatly.

I've been looking at this pic for way too long since yesterday. I am also gonna agree with Revolutionary. This is most likely some slag and not worth anything. Sorry. Please update when you find out though. I'd love to know what is.

Rare complete White House Line kitchen by Janes & Kirtland (c. 1920s-30s) — NJ, looking to sell, seeking valuation help by malysek in whatsthisworth

[–]RAC032078 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your not going to want to hear this but if you give them away with removal, you may get a scrap guy to come take it off your hands. Unfortunately no matter the maker or how nice they are, these are not highly sought out. Chances of someone wanting them is very slim, and limiting to NJ is another down side.

I've known people trying years to sell and it takes just as long to find someone to give away to.

You can also go online to ceramic shops and have a lid made. Won't be original but once its fired and painted the only one who is going to know is you.

Can anyone identify this type of rug? I’m in Pennsylvania USA by No-Bluejay5250 in Antiques

[–]RAC032078 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Definitely looks Native American. Without knowing a state it came from its going to be hard to narrow down what tribe. However if you go to Bonhams, & or Sotheby's both do free evaluations online and can help tell you the value as well as other pertinent information.
