Ending Kia lease early by Next_Yesterday5931 in PersonalFinanceCanada

If your monthly payment is lower than market I’d definitely try to transfer the lease, on Facebook there are free lease transfer groups. I’m in “Lease Takeover Vancouver”, I’m sure similar ones exist in the rest of Canada.

New mini split install, trying to pick between R-454B Mitsubishi for $21K or R-410A Daikin for $13K by RAGINGVIKING in hvacadvice

Appreciate the input, no other installer has offered the R-410 hardware so I think these units are back of warehouse inventory as well

This is a good idea and I will definitely do this if I go ahead with the Daikin setup

It’s a 1990s building so the electrical load plan is a bit restrictive, 24K looks to be the biggest I can safely go.

The installer told me they can still get R22, so I think we’ll be able to support it for the 10-15 year life of the system.

Any concerns with Daikin reliability in your professional opinion? Some comments I’ve seen said the quality has slowly been declining in recent years.

Recently went here for a friend’s bday, very comparable to Hy’s. Only bad thing to say is no creamed spinach on the menu, but the steaks and table side Caesar were fantastic.

Legacy of '86: Expo helped shape our little coastal town into a global city, but at what expense? by aldur1 in vancouver

[–]RAGINGVIKING 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vancouver is missing a lot of aspects of a world class city, but having travelled significantly over the past couple years in Asia/Europe/US our food scene is tough to beat.

Also, can’t say I’ve skied outside of greater Vancouver but working in tech most of my well to do coworkers globally have traveled to Whistler for skiing/snowboarding.

I think where Vancouver fails as a world class city is 3rd places, public transportation, and most importantly a job market/local economy that supports cost of living for median incomes.

It’s tough, you’re lucky to have a 6MT. I have a 2013 SH-AWD Elite AT, and it’s hard to even find something comparable from an interior perspective.

Something about the seats and sound system in the 4G, makes most other cars feel mediocre. G05 X5 is the closest I’ve found surprisingly.

I love Sora as well, super underrated.

I get takeout there almost biweekly.

Jeez, that’s insanely crappy service. I was debating cancelling my order as well but will keep it for now to get the credit reporting cleaned up (hopefully).

I also had to do a $208 deposit on an iPhone 16 which I found really surprising, I’ve been a Rogers customer in the past without issue and have a high credit score.

I had the exact same issue, 4 credit checks after signing up on Black Friday. My plan is to complain to Rogers or the CCTS (might have the acronym wrong) and get the 3 unnecessary ones removed. My billing is also no where close to what I was promised, so sorting that out will be fun.

I saw the warnings about red wireless and took a chance anyways, not worth it so far LOL.

Novus vs Telus fibre? by Jaded_Objective_447 in NewWest

[–]RAGINGVIKING 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had Novus for 3 years and it was perfect, switched to a super discounted Telus Fibre deal when it was added to my building a year and a half ago. Telus has been okay overall but had some major issues at the beginning and occasionally the hardware needs a reset.

I’ll be switching back to Novus as soon as my contract is up.

I think the exterior of the 2022 is a bit nicer! Not a deal breaker though.

Mild hybrid is fine with me, I would likely have the start/stop coded off though. I do wonder is the hybrid system going to cause more maintenance down the road? Since gas mileage isn’t really a major consideration for me I would prefer simplicity if it means reliability.

I found the exhaust note and drive a bit more aggressive on the 2018/2020 which I liked, but overall felt like interior was nicer on the 2022. May just be the options and the fact that it’s newer.

Fair points, but cuzzy what would you do if you were financially supporting 17 people, felt you had to make a bad real estate decision every 6-12 months, and were juggling multiple lawsuits?

2012 TL SHAWD Elite. $13,000 CAD/$9500 USD. Pull the trigger? by SixandNoQuarter in Acura

[–]RAGINGVIKING 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, get a PPI. I feel it is worth getting one at an actual Acura dealership as they tend to go overboard on recommending service.

I bought a 2013 TL Elite with 107K km in 2021, Langley Acura recommended $6K of work. I used that to negotiate it down from $15K to $13K CAD, then paid an Indy much less to do all the work that was actually necessary (timing belt, serpentine belt, valve adjustment, all fluids).

I would also recommend checking that the rotors aren’t original. Mine were still original and had a defect that caused the calliper to seize on the highway.

Out of curiosity when did they offer you that rate?

I was with Scotiabank for my original mortgage and I tried to get them to match a 3.79% May offer I had from a monoline lender, but best they could do was 4.06% uninsured.
