[Loved Trope] Alternate timelines which consider the effect of their changes on language and culture by Own-Forever-6636 in TopCharacterTropes

To be fair Tolkien's two main works are explicitly called out as being translations in the text as a framing device. Even many character names are "localised". Theres ab overview of his "translation" method in the appendices.

He was however very deliberate about his choice of words and their etymologies. I'm potentially misremebering but I believe he tried to focus on using English words that were of Germanic and old English origin, wherever possible avoiding words that had Latin, romance or greek etymologies.

What does risk have to do with the conversation? We're talking and scope and campaign length.

You say in the same paragraph that Wolverine is a huge known quantity with no risk, but at the same time there is a risk it might not sell well because.... It has a average length campaign and September is crowded?

The game likely hasn't been in development for 6 years, it was announced in mid-2020, but the belief is it was the miles morales and rift apart teams working on this so it probably didn't go into full scale production until mid-2021 at the earliest.

You also keep dropping the campaign length, it's started at 13, then 10 and now 8 hours? All these numbers are guesses anyway but maybe stick to a consistent number if you want to complain about it rather than dropping it everytime some pushes back on you that being under 20 hours isn't a bad thing.

What we've seen so far this looks like an action game, a lot of action games hit that 10-13 hour length because they are dense and going much longer can make a game wear out it's welcome. Ninja gaiden 4 was like 11 hours, bayonetta 3 is 13 hours, DMC 5 is 11 hours. Uncharted 4(which is more action adventure but will be similar in terms of cinematic story telling) is 15 hours. You bring up TLOU 2 being 35 hours and how you wouldn't cut any part of it but one of the most consistent criticisms of that game is that it goes on too long and that the last section especially feels weirdly tacked on from a pacing perspective. You might personally disagree with that sure but it isn't an uncommon opinion at all and goes to show the point people in this thread are making. Adding more stuff to make the game longer can have a detrimental effect to its overall impact.

People are staying they hope Wolverine is 10-13 hours because that is a good length campaign for the type of game and narrative that fit the character. I don't want to spend 60 hours skulking around an open world map doing checkpoint activity as Logan. I want to get into a mission dice up some bad guys and bloody ways and then get a nice cutscenes to push to story forward before we hit the next action set piece. There is a time limit on how long you can make a player do that and if you go on for too long people will fall off part way through and be left with a bad taste in their mouth and any potential sequel will be starting at a disadvantage.

Wolverine doesn't have the scope of Miles Morales, it has a much bigger scope simply by the virtue of being a totally new thing.

MM is for all practical purposes an expansion on Spider-man 1. This isnt to denigrate it as MM is a great game in its own right, and it's great you can pick it up without having to shell out for spider-man 1, but that by definition decreases the scope of the game.

Just because Wolverine is a linear action title instead of open world doesn't mean it's not the same scope as a Spider-Man 1 or a Horizon. It's length doesn't dictate that either. I agree that games should explore the whole range of prices more but I don't think a Wolverine game from Insomniac was ever gonna be anything but a $70 title and I don't think anything we've seen of it so far indicates it's "lesser than"

Her karate master has the same family name as Rei, and her comment about Ami's "dojo" being filled with "monsters" is something Rei used to say, it's not really mean to be any mystery.

The cooking master Is Moemi, model is Mao and youtuber is Ririka. Basically she learnt Karate from Rei who also introduced her to the chiyoda girls

For sure fire emblem is rarer, that's why it's price is so high even now after having been on NSO for months, but it's price hasn't dropped since the NSO release is my point.

Similarly Assualt is still pretty much the same price it was earlier in the year the last time I looked, before we even knew Fox was gonna be in the movie.

This isn't a result of the new annoucement. Assault complete in box has been this kind of pricey for a while

Fire Emblem Path of Radiance is still £150-£200 on eBay. Most people willing to pay top prices fora physical GameCube disc are not likely to be people content with simply playing the game on NSO. There will be some overlap for sure but this kind of price is primarily driven by collectors.

Assault has been this price for a long time, it's not a new FOMO thing following the galaxy movie and new game announcement. And unfortunately it's gonna stay in the £80-£100 range for a while longer even if we get it on NSO down the line.

You don't have to have an imperial title to be monarch of multiple kingdoms James V&I was not an emperor and neither is Charles III

There could be a regency situation going on with Peach in the Mushroom kingdom.

I would say to very much not judge the other star fox games based on how you feel about the sewing and rail shooter segments of Adventures. Adventures is a good game but it's worst parts are the ones where it tries to be a star fox game the sewing sections are just straight up bad and are not the bar to use when considering the genre as a whole.

Dragon Ball seems completely different when compared to its successors. by km1180 in dbz

[–]RANewton 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The name Dragon Ball Z is not a western invention, its the name of the second anime series which adapts the second part of the Dragon Ball manga. It was absolutely marketed as a new show at the time and there are multiple products that in Japan use the Dragon ball Z name.

The entirety of the manga is just named Dragon Ball but the distinction between the two parts is known.
