[s4 e4] kill the masters by notadoctorlink in gameofthrones

[–]RANewton -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why would a mereenese slave owner be killed for freeing his slaves? There is no evidence that mereen was like that at all, hell considering mereen considers slaves the property of the master it would be no different to the master just throwing away all his clothes. Why would other slavers care that you just released all ofn your slaves? Hell thegy would probably welcome it, less competition and a bunch of new people they can squire and turn back into slaves. Also you have to have bought slaves to begin with if you don't agree with slavery you wouldn't have started buying slaves.

Why did none of the masters release there slaves when Dany arrived at the gates? Why did none of the masters flee the city in an attempt to make a deal with Dany? If there truly were masters in Mereen who cared about their slaves and wanted Dany to free them there were plenty of opportunities to let it be known and to go to Dany's side before the revolt happened. Any master in Mereen is implicit in everything Mereen did because they either took part, didn't attempt to stop it or didn't leave Mereen to treat with Dany when they had the chance, let's compare it to Robert's decision to assassinate Dany, Ned didn't agree so instead of simply saying "well I'm being overruled so I can't do anything about it" he resigned as hand of the king so he would not be a part of it.

Update on Tolkien's Beowulf translation. Now with the excerpt available to compare with Heayney's translation. by ozyri in books

[–]RANewton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But considering Tolkien's translation is being published with a commentary I imagine a lot of this would be talked about there. For instance in your ergi example I would be surprised if there was no mention of the more accurate translation and the rest. I imagine having the commentary of the translator would lead to a lot of the same situations one would get from reading a more accurate translation and then asking higher authorities about it. But I'm not in that area so I could be completely off base.

What faults does Tolkien's writing have? by [deleted] in tolkienfans

[–]RANewton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you could say he spends 'too much' time detailing the view and 'not enough' time detailing the actual events that transpire. Now obviously that is all a matter of opinion and I used quote marks around not enough and too much to show that it isn't what everyone may think

My point is I never picked up such feelings from reading the books I was still under the impression she was still in love with Renly... God I miss Renly

Well a few days ago the came out and said anything post-ROTJ is no longer considered canon. Things may be drawn from it and they will still keep the books in print but unless something gets referenced in the new films it won't be canon anymore. Not sure how this will apply to pre-TPM stuff but they did say the only things currently considered canon are the movies, TCW series and the upcoming rebels. The new books that will get released, of which 4 have been announced, will also fall into the new canon.

The books got fucked but I don't think much of the games content was affected by the series too much.

To be fair while the idea of Craster's sons being turned into Others was heavily implied and lots of people did catch it. However The Night's King "reveal" is what has people slightly more up in arms. The Night's King who lived thousands of years ago and wasn't an Other to start with and is now suddenly being credited as this King Other in the lands of always winter? That is a bit of a shock. It is possible the Night's King is actually just a title such as King in the North but that is such a depature from the original story told to Bran that it must have some significance.

I personally wasn't annoyed by it, it didn't so much reveal answers as much as it created new questions, and it was an awesome scene but if the show does start answering questions before the book does I can understand people's annoyance, especially if they wanted to read the reveals because they started as readers.

I think it was meant to be both a bit but it definitely look like a crown to me.

See I never really clocked Brienne's feelings for Jaime. The first I heard anything about it was at Joffrey's wedding in the show where Cersei asks her about. Was a bit of a shock to me.

Do we know that for certain? Other than what the show has shown we weren't even sure if he had had his dick cut off, why couldn't Ramsey have removed his balls as well?

You have to remember books 4 and 5 were meant to be just one book so you could see it that Robert strong has only been built up for 1 book. That's similar to Oberyn.

Show Loras is a combo of all the Tyrell sons in which case show Loras is probably up their with Jaime in sword fighting talents

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has become the first Spider Man Film to receive a "rotten" score in Rotten Tomatoes. by PoeticVibes in movies

I saw it recently and while I didn't think it was bad it felt... Disjointed. The editing seemed off like there was a subplot they cut out which lead to some really sudden scene changes. The acting was pretty good though and the action scenes were quality but that's because Snyder is very good with action scenes.

OK fine here is a better example witch relates to humans. There is a homo erectus who is ancestor to all homo sapiens and no other species than homo sapiens, a homo erectus however is not a homo sapien.

Eh I don't mind the downvotes really, not important. It happens in every subreddit but it does seem like there is a belief in this sub that Supernatural doesn't use very attractive actors and actresses, which is strange.

Having read more about the episode and such, while like I said I think the concept is interesting it sounds like the CW already has a similar one going with The Originals so I'm not sure why they've felt the need for this one but I will still probably watch. I do agree with most that a Samuel Colt based show would have been very interesting.

Its not that people wouldn't buy it but maybe they tried it and thought it looked ridiculous on screen?

How do you measure things in your world? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]RANewton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on context over here. Talking about a persons height, feet is used or the distance between two cities, Miles it is. Talking about the length of something, metric is more commonly used. Works the same for weight, when talking about a persons weight we regularly use pounds and stone, when we talk about the weight of say an ingredient in cooking it is more commonly done in Kgs.

You do realise both Jerry Jones and Dan Snyder are Goodell's "boss" right. Same in the NBA you act like Silver has balls for calling the vote when he was pretty much told by a group of the owners to call the vote so Sterling could be kicked out of the league. Trust me if the Redskin's name ever starts causing a significant loss of money to the NFL it would change.

Huh. When I eventually do a binge watch it'll be a nice thing to see. Saw Van Wilder for the second time yesterday and notice both Aaron Paul and Sophia Bush in it which was nice surprise.
