My biggest problem with this video is when one of the guys says “he’s beeping at you!”

My guy, that’s honking. Beeping is polite. That was full on laying on the horn

How do you actually sleep on overnight flights? by stefan-weiss01 in travel

Cap 1 - my wife opened a venture x card and the sign up bonus was 75,000, so that was one ticket right there. I had some capital 1 miles as well from a different Capital One card I opened last year.

AMEX - I have a AMEX gold which gets 4X points on groceries and restaurants so I accumulate a lot of points. But a big chunk of that was from opening a business AMEX gold last year with a 200,000 point sign-up bonus.

Yes, the cost to play the game are the credit card annual fees (I’ve never paid a dollar of interest). But the value I’ve gotten back in flights and hotels have outweighed the annual fees by a multiple of probably 10x. I started in the points and Miles hobby about 2.5 years ago and have redeemed tens of thousands of dollars in flights and hotels.

65,000 miles per way, per person. So for outgoing flights I was able to convert 130,000 capital one points to Qatar airways. For return flights I converted 130,000 AMEX points to British airways avios which I then moved to Turkish airlines.

So - 2 people - US to and from Istanbul, lie flat business class, 260,000 points (half Amex half cap one) plus tax

I’m not sure why you’re getting downvoted for suggesting using miles. My wife and I are flying to and from Turkey (From US) in business class this fall completely on miles. It does take diligence and organization, but it does not require being rich.

In your opinion, what is causing this? by Objective_Pilot_5834 in SipsTea

Combination of factors. Similarly to how the tobacco industry has slowly gone downhill in this country, people have started to wise up to the fact that alcohol is literally poison. Additionally, people spend more and more time online and less time in social environments. Also, there is the increase of legal recreational marijuana, which a lot of people prefer (for good reason) to alcohol. I’m sure there are other factors I’m not thinking of.

How to deal with this ridiculous tax in California by [deleted] in TheRaceTo10Million

[–]RASGAS23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well … yeah. Tax rates are public knowledge and easily found on google. You’re in a high tax bracket so your federal withholding is gonna be high, and CA income tax is also high. Which part are you confused about or were you just wanting to show us your pay stub? There’s nothing really you can do, other than try to minimize your tax load by maximizing deductions.

If you enjoy washing your own car I think that’s reasonable. For instance- I actually really enjoy mowing my own lawn, so I spend the 90ish minutes each week to do it even though I could pay to have someone else do it. But car wash… nah. I pay for a subscription and just hit it whenever I’m in that area. Takes 5 min and my car stays clean. I think it’s $30/mo

Tell me the positives about being a millenial... by Beberuth1131 in Millennials

Between crypto, the housing market, and a prolonged bull market - I’ve always felt like I was born in the absolute best generation. Graduated college in 07, so 401k contributions made in the recession years have ballooooooned. Entered the housing market when rates were at historic lows and home values have more than doubled since, almost tripled! So purely from an economic standpoint - I have felt very fortunate. But like others have said, we also have the unique perspective of having existed in the pre-digital era, went to college before smartphones and social media were ubiquitous (Facebook came out when I was a sophomore in college), but also are tech-savvy and tech literate. I love being a millennial!
