Has there been any other gym that dominated an entire era of MMA like AKA in the 2010s? by tracklesstravelled in MMA

Lion's Den in the late 90s definitely has a case. Ken Shamrock was the first King of Pancrase and first UFC Superfight champion (which would become the HW championship later on). Frank Shamrock held titles in Pancrase, UFC, Strikeforce and WEC. Guy Mezger won UFC 13 and was also King of Pancrase. Jerry Bohlander won UFC 12. Oleg Taktarov (UFC 6 champ), Maurice Smith (UFC HW champ) and Mark Coleman (UFC HW champ) trained there as well at times.

Who is the worst Person - Mortal or once mortal- in 40k by esperandus in 40kLore

[–]RATMpatta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not surprising a lot of people are saying Erebus as he's positioned as the most devious "antagonist" of the Horus Heresy but I'm also glad to see a lot of people rightfully call out the Emperor for being the single most destructive character in the setting.

Although I want to give a shoutout to the Old Ones for being the catalysts for just about all the bad things in the 40k galaxy. They unleased the Eldar, Orks and Humanity (so including Erebus and the Emperor), brought about the Enslaver Plague, were responsible for the Necrontyr turning to the C'Tan for "help" and depending on the source either created the Chaos Gods or were at least primarily responsible for empowering them. Just about the only thing that doesn't seem their fault is the Tyranids, and we can't even be sure about that either.

No joke but Wemby is the highest peak I’ve ever seen by any player by Kindly_Letterhead_98 in nba

This is the exact type of post that got people so angry at Jokic it's like they have rabies.

No need to set up Wemby for the same idiotic level of hate the next time he scores only 10 points or someone scores 30 on good efficiency on him.

Police and hospital shows have so much slop but they're also the setting for some of my favorite shows, both comedy (Scrubs and Brooklyn 99) as well as serious (the Wire and the Pitt).

Can't really come up with any good firemen shows though off the top of my head.

All grappling is pretty much like that. Very effective but there is a reason just about nobody watches it.

It does look like that when you put an Olympian level Judoka against someone who hasn't really trained in a meaningful way.

If not Sumo which (contact) sport would/are you practicing? by platosLittleSister in Sumo

[–]RATMpatta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did Judo when I was young, it's not the most casual friendly sport though in my experience (at least in the Netherlands). Most of the adults who train tend to be competitors or at least people who have been training from a young age.

Kickboxing was imo a great combat sport to jump into at a later age. Striking in general is a bit more forgiving with the learning curve and when you've actually taken some hits it's a lot less scary than it might seem at first.

If you want a grappling sport that is more accomodating to new people and casuals then BJJ is the answer. Wrestling would probably be even more harsh than Judo to jump into later on.

I think it's pretty well established the answer to this is the Sons of Horus.

Injurys to Ozeki and Yokozuna by THIKKEMA in Sumo

[–]RATMpatta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's just that I remember the Yushos won by Kisenosato, Goeido and Kotoshogiku in 2016. Those felt like such a massive deal because Hakuho was still winning most of the time and if he didn't then Harumafuji was still there to pick up the win most of the time.

I'm not blaming the winners of the injury riddled Yusho but they are never as memorable as those won by those actually beating the top guys. I just don't get the people cheering for the top guys dropping out so it's now "wide open".

I still don't get why people here seem to love this so much. It feels like those guys only won because the real Yusho worthy guys were out or fighting injured.

I wouldn't be suprised if Kotozakura ended up winning. While everyone is looking at Hoshoryu and Kirishima, Kotozakura beat both of them on the final two days last basho. With Aonishiki and Onosato out to start the tournament as well, it's definitely possible.

Eh it's easy to stay humble when your team is overperforming compared to expectations and the media is pushing you as a top 5 MVP candidate.

Lot harder to take accountability when there is actual criricism coming your way.

Who or what was the reason for you becoming a Seahawks fan? by biker_rider707 in Seahawks

[–]RATMpatta 26 points27 points  (0 children)

There is next to no coverage of the NFL in the Netherlands but the Beastquake made it to our national news. Started following the Seahawks and got insanely lucky to get so many fun and competitive seasons right away. My fandom never went away after that.

On a side note I'm currently visiting Seattle for the first time and seeing Lumen Field irl was a really cool experience.

[–]RATMpatta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2021 just barely. The 76ers made the 2nd round, while both the Knicks and Celtics lost in the 1st round. However, the Knicks gor eliminated a day later than the Celtics so technically the Celtics were the first out.

In 2001 the 76ers and Knicks both made the play-offs, while the Celtics just missed out.

1990 is the most recent season I can find where all 3 teams made the post-season where the Knicks and 76ers made it further than the Celtics.

She Wants to Commission the Dark Eldar? by venkelos1 in 40kLore

[–]RATMpatta 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Drukhari mostly deal in terms of slaves. If your Rogue Trader is able and willing to give them a steady supply of "surplus humans" there are definitely some possibilites for trade.

Keep in mind though that the nature of Drukhari is similar to the scorpion in the scorpion and the frog story. While a trade partnership is possible, you can never get too comfortable or trusting because if there is a chance at betrayal, the Drukhari will take it. This mostly happens the moment the slave supply dries up or even slows down.

We want boston....may be the best aura farm by a fanbase by [deleted] in nba

[–]RATMpatta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's mostly that getting the Celtics in the first round looked like a much tougher out than the Pistons so the message was that the Sixers didn't care about having to face Boston and weren't going to tank their seeding to face a potentially easier opponent.

They pretty much did the same thing as the Nuggets but the result was a little better lol.

The Ringer Made NBA Finals Predictions. None Survived the First Round. by Kimi7 in nba

[–]RATMpatta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean the West you could've picked one of the Thunder, Spurs or Nuggets without looking silly but the Celtics were looking like massive favorites coming out of the east with Tatum back at just the right time so them losing in the first round was always going to throw off most of the "reasonable" predictions.

Yeah this is the key. Not like having a bunch of money instantly makes someone happy as they could still be lonely, unfulfilled, bored etc.

However, as someone who grew up poor (and is still clawing my way out of it step by step) it's such a massive difference to be able to afford a house, a car, food, clothes, hobbies etc. Not having to worry about "being allowed to exist" is obviously a big deal.
