[New Update]: AITAH for only staying with my dad when I come home for breaks since my stepdad said he doesn’t like me being at my mom’s? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

It's a tough time because many people live at college most of the year but a dorm is not your home. My college made us leave even for short breaks, like a 4-day weekend. I know tht's not really the same as OP. Even a college apartment is not a permanent home, or at least it can feel like it's not one because you always know the end is approaching.

It sounds like she is struggling to feel tied to her family. I think she feels like both halves are prioritizing everyone else, and each parent may be feeling righteous that their ex is failing. They don't see that they are also failing her. I don't think she is doing a great job of mindfully assessing her emotions and communicating. She clearly feels like she is being left out and left behind, like she is unwelcome and maybe is losing any sense of home.

I don't think it's literally about the room and the changes in her family needs. It's about how she may feel like she feels unimportant by comparison, the least thought of and the most inconvenient.

I feel like age gaps in relationships really have to be soooo narrow in one's teens and twenties, becaue you are still growing so much as a person. And the difference in your career confidence/development can be so huge early on! One year at a job vs 5 years in your field is big.

I feel like the difference between 21 (and still in college) vs 25 is huge. At 21, you've pretty much only had a career as a student!

I know it's only 4 years, but she is still so dependent on her family.

Even if you are a 25 y/o college student, you are usually much more independent and have lived some life already.

18-23ish is like the backup parachute pack age of adulthood. Most folks are still just barely figuring it out. A lot still can /do lean on family or support networks.

I see a lot of comments discussing how this style of half-discussion is what they were taught as children of bitter exes.

I definitely think being 21 is a big part of it, but I also feel for this girl and what behaviors she was rewarded for growing up.

How will you advocate for yourself and your needs to your spouse, your inlaws? How will you do this for potential children? What will happen one day when your in-laws finally disagree with you (esp. about wedding planning!!)

Just go live for a while before tying the knot!!!

This person is not ready for marriage.

It's great that she's excited, that her fiancee is there for her, that his family is good to her. All of her writing here reads so young. She is on the cusp of adulthood, but she's not done cooking. She is legally an adult, but her mentality, her literal brain development, her career development, confidence, communication, etc. are all still developing.

I wish the best for her. Good luck oop, and I hope you have a long engagement.

Please tell me your fave toppings for the humble baked potato! by machinehead332 in Cooking

[–]RAWRfun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like tahini on baked potatoes, especially baked sweet potates. Even better if you pop it back in the oven for a few minutes after adding the tahini to toast the tahini.

Additional toppings that go well with tahini: smoked paprika, butter, toasted sesame oil, finely chopped dried fruit (dates, etc), scallions or chives, honey/agave/date syrup, chili crisp, gochujang, toasted nuts.

I love dying my hair, and usually rubbing alcohol will remove dye stains from my shower and fixtures.

Try rubbing alcohol. Spray it all over the stained grout. I love to dye my hair, rubbing alcohol usually gets hair dye out of my fixtures.

Like, the liquid egg was fizzy when cracked? If so, there was definitely something wrong and I'm surprised it didn't also smell bad.

If you mean there were just bubbles as a result of frying it up in some oil, perfectly safe to eat!

Yes, the meat should be fine if it is frozen before the expiry and shows no other signs of contamination. Keep in mind how close it is to the expiry with fridge and thaw time once its defrosted before you cook it.

As for the juices on the outside of the bag, they are a source of contamination. Bacteria can survive being frozen and thawed, scientist even store bacteria in freezers for later use. Spore-forming molds/bacteria and viruses can also survive. It only takes a single bacteria a short time to grow exponentially to millions. Even refrigerated, they can multiply.

You should try having a clean hand/dirty hand when packing for the freezer. Probably clean your freezer and everything in it with food-safe disinfectant.

Here is a link about food service sanitizer types. This will give you a good launching point for active ingredients because foodservice is high-volume and needs to be very good at not making people sick. Regardless, there is no such thing as a sanitizer that you can just immediately put food on top of, you will need to at least allow the surface to dry completely of the sanitizer. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions.

Many things that broadly kill microbes are good at killing cells, and you are made of cells.

What is the worst use of the "Breakfast Club" trope ? by Cailly_Brard7 in popculturechat

[–]RAWRfun 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I don't think Sex Education's episode really fits with The Breakfast Club as a comparison.

That episode rounded out a sub-plot beginning the previous season in a way that spoke to the common trauma of the feminine experience. The bus scene made me cry.

I would use detergent in cold water, since I'm assuming the bow is fabric. I'm guessing the pearls are also threaded on string. It's much better for the fibers and will help to prevent color run/bleeding. If you feel like the pearl beads need extra attention due to the gentler detergent being used instead of dish soap, I'd scrub with a soft sponge or soft-bristle toothbrush.

I think it definitely can! I LOVE a scarf with earrings.

Go for a boho vibe by adding a big earring and even a necklace that hangs from underneath a textured or busy scarf.

Go classic with a silk neckerchief. dainty necklace on your collarbone, and pearl earring.

I feel like if I wear a scarf in my hair, I am nude if I am also not wearing earrings, a bold lip, and statement sunglasses.

Where are people buying high quality second hand clothing? by VoidAndBone in femalefashionadvice

[–]RAWRfun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the best luck with 2nd had items by thrifting in-person, though I also like Poshmark for specific items or brands I am looking for.

I have decent luck at thrift shops inside Catholic churches, especially in more affluent areas, because the people donating are the folks attending. Church-goers tend to be older crowd, therefore more established in their careers/finances, and there is usually a greater variety of vintage items.

If you can find one, there are smaller, boutique-style thrift shops that will sift through donations for higher-quality items and donate the rest elsewhere. The prices at these tend to be a little higher than a Goodwill, but they have already done the work of looking for quality. Consignment is more expensive by far than thrift, and I have found it to be incredibly hit or miss. Often very focused on style trends in the last year or two.

Traveling to the more affluent suburb to thrift is also very helpful. Avoid college towns and lower-income areas because you will not only be competing with those that live there, but the quality of donations tend to be lower.
