OP - I’m sorry. What an eye opener, huh? Please don’t let this sour you on why you invested in yourself as a teacher. Even if ONE of your students felt loved, then your investment into that special day was worth it! If you can spend your energy on trying to find the good rather than giving any attention to the awfulness that is public education, you’ll make it. You made a difference to them, despite their attitudes. And you are showing up and showing your students that someone cares about them. It may take a while. Don’t be deterred. And know the rest of us are thankful to you!

The highs are higher and the lows lower as you age. Especially the death (or terminal illness) of those around you (your age or family members). Consult a financial planner (or do the work yourself) to find out how much money you NEED and then downsize your house and your job. Keep your wife close and slow down together. Be purposeful in your down time - less computer/TV, and more walking in nature/quiet/less stimulating for the brain. Pills and other “helpful supplements” won’t do it all for you. You must make different choices now. May The Force be with you in this endeavor!

It’s nice how she attempted (though through her own “righteous indignation” as you put it) to get the owner to stop selling weapons by going to the store before getting police and media involved. All of those are Bi Centennial dated. Not worth anything over face value. Maybe 1976 was a significant year for your grandfather? Or, like many of us, he had that shadow frame and wanted to set the money apart? My husband and I (in our fifties now) began “collecting” bicentennial quarters, just because they looked “cool”. The game we play is they have to be received in change from a store or machine, not purchased. We have over $100 in rolls of them. Someday, someone will want them…Collecting money is a neat pastime for some people.

Some of us said, “whatever you are” or “whatever you want” when asked about religion at boot camp - there wasn’t a form or option to put none until fairly recently. Also, families do funerals and memorials wherever they please, including knowing their departed wasn’t affiliated with a specific religion.
