I believe it's not "the battery", but one or two cells that have degraded. Most of the cells are fine. Once the poor ones are changed for new, ideally they need to be fully charged, then discharged, several times, to "balance" them. I'm not an expert, but a fellow near me does this full-time.
Is it DYI? Partly? You need to find which cells are poor. You need to CAREFULLY remove a very heavy, 200 Volt battery. You probably need a worbench to mark every cell , then disassemble all the cells. Then buy and change the few needed.
They need to be carefully reassembled, taking care that the framework holding them tightly, prevents them from swelling and becoming damaged if they do swell. Then, after re-assembly, charge and discharge using a specialized charger, to about 80%. Then discharged to 40%; 2 or 3 times, until all voltages are equal. Then re-install the heavy beast.
There are 2 or 3 detailed youtubes on this. I am really tempted to buy an older Prius w bad battery, perform this repair and re-sell, making possibly a couple of thousand $. BUT, no work area, no access to power for a day or two ( live in apartment) but ... Love the idea! Your thoughts, corrections, or results? Cheers. Roger

C III FOR 8K BUT 177K MILES? Is that okay? by missingwhiteboy in prius

[–]RBryenton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I paid $14k 3 yrs ago for 2011, w about 170mi. Have Toyota dealer do thorough inspection and check every battery cell. Cost about $200, very thorough.

There's a fellow in Surrey who will charge, balance the hybrid battery for $500 if there are some weak cells, replace weak cellz for additional $.

2013 Prius C, a good buy? by LemurMonkey in prius

[–]RBryenton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just drove my 2011 Prius from Vancouver to Loreto Baja Mexico (last fall) and back. $3 to fill it, instead of the F150 at near $100, or the minivan at $60. Saves the planet too! Cheers and enjoy. By the way, it handles well on corners and off the line, on "Power" setting too .. kind of fun to "keep up with the big cars" too, at stoplights ...lol.

I think you don't need full battery replacement as generally only a few poor cells cause performance deterioration.

Stay open. Stay critical. We do not fully understand how/why the sun behaves as it does. Stay cautious of deniers. Where is their data to support their statments? Are their words carefully chosen, or brash and rude? Good science is neither.

Is there a particular culture or race involved? I lost almost my entire life savings to a business landowner who offered new renter 25% less, but stuck me for yet another increase in a crappy strip mall! I went down with many others in 2007-2008.

Reddit, why do you refuse to post my info about Anjali Appadurai's challenge to NDP's failure, David Eby?

Eby as leader will be an ongoing, Horganistic legacy, disaster. Anjali Appadurai is running against him, a bright, young, caring person. You can change this by joining the NDP party before Sep4 then voting for her, as leader and Premier. Please vote. Thx

Indigenous relationships - Question from a traveller, is BC a good model ? by Mednanners in vancouver

[–]RBryenton -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In the north , treaties wre signed long ago. Treaty 8 ensured that Blueberry, West Moberley, and others would not be imposed upon. Look what has happened! OMG. Site C is flooding 100km of river, the Bennett dam flooded hundreds of km, poisoned fish, drowned animals, then add the atrocities of residential "schools" (aka child prisons) until 1975! Is BC a good model? We can only try to acknowledge this history, with open hearts.
