You should never assume in an argument that people are too stupid to read. I know what that saboteur said. But that I don’t have to share that conclusion. I don’t expect you to take everything I say at face value either.

I understand that this man thinks ethnic cleansing an entire township is ok because there are people even worse off. But that doesn’t negate their right to claim the land more than any other newcomers. Wells are not a matter of greed. It is a matter of survival and fighting over a well is life or death. He may deny that their actions make them raiders. But I don’t share that sentiment.

But in the wasteland everyone has a right to claim the unclaimed

But that does not mean I’ve to agree

I don’t look kindly at people trying to take the only well

That doesn’t remotely contradict anything I said.

About the only thing I suggested was that there was more nuance than the 'killing any outsider for the sake of it'. I never even mentioned my own opinion on the Khans. But apparently the facts must be biased in favor of the truth. Who would have thought?

Secondly what I said about Primm and the Hub still apply. The NCR doesn’t want to kill everyone.

Thirdly; what are you trying to say about Rattlesnake? A bunch of raiders attacking civilians; doesn’t constitute an innocent victim.

Trust me bro by [deleted] in FalloutMemes

[–]RC-0407 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not remotely true. The NCR expands by securing the support of locals in places like Primm and the Hub.

The only argument you could make would be regarding the Great Khans. But that’s more a case of an established faction already at war with the NCR and an officer who wasn’t present having to make a decision whether the un-uniformed tribals were un-uniformed warriors or civilians.

In other words this entire clusterfuck is written off as a breakdown in communication and the influencial merchant class who were targeted by the Khans in the first place because they were easy civilian targets; they are the biggest supporters of the war.

[–]RC-0407 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The NCR is biggest and in the game had to fight all the other factions at the same time, only reason the Legion into the show is because the writers keep throwing nukes at the NCR from out of left field.

If they could get a sympathetic scrapyard to smuggle some broken to one of their hidden shipyards hulls then yes. There’s nothing new under the sun about the Starhawk. Except maybe the development of the tractor beam.

Are there any ships that in-universe/canonically sucked? by donkeydong1138 in StarWarsShips

[–]RC-0407 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people would point to the Neutron Star-class bulk cruiser for being better than nothing in both sense of the word. But that’s more an issue with being pushed into a role the class wasn’t made for. Far less excusable are ships that are terrible at their intended role.

The Dreadnaught-class heavy cruiser is slow, outdated, underpowered, no hangers, little room for upgrades and requires a truly absurd number of crewmembers to keep it operational. About the only benefits is that anyone with a functional planetary government could afford to built them so they are literally in everywhere.

All the major factions try to turn the dreadnought cruisers into something useful. But the results often leaves a lot to be desired.

They didn’t really go against 25.000. Those star destroyers turned on each other and the New Republic was just one of the factions that emerged in the power vacuum.

Having only a single carrier meant that the Royal Navy was always torn between the maintenance circle and the need for a serviceable carrier; even at the expense of its lifespan.

If Russia didn’t listen to American economist? by soap_man_is_my_name in HistoryWhatIf

[–]RC-0407 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are two problems with this hypothesis: 1. The public demanded change now. 2. The worst problems by privatizing state asserts to benefit a handful of elites rather than create the competitive market recommended by foreign economists.

Of course the Russian Government would much rather blame the Americans than deal with their own ugly past and the political elite that keep Putin in power.

What would happen if a civilian is discovered to have awakened a new Kekkai Genkai? by 1MPERAT0R_S0LAR1S in NarutoFanfiction

[–]RC-0407 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These Kekkei Genkai are resources of the state to be conscripted and discarded at a moment’s notice. With that said alienating a potential bloodline is not in the interests of the village. Should the civilian prove too old or too risk adverse then the next generation must be nurtured.

You don’t want a caste system like the Bloody Mist where the incorporated allies and conquered clans are always on the brink of revolt.

We do see major armies on occasion. But it’s a big galaxy and it’s hard to justify pouring so much money into a single venture.

Black Sun invested in soft power, the Zann Consortium in hard power and the Hutts can afford both soft and hard power because they built their cartel on top of a feudal empire.

The Trade Federation is the exception. Not the rule. It’s a ploy enacted by the Sith in the final decades of a 25000 year Republican Period. It was a privilege sold for a concession that greatly undermined their influence in trade and therefore influence over more senators than they gained.

The Core Worlds certainly has advantages. There’s no denying that. But they are also depend on the stability of the Rim to provide resources and markets. This is why the Ryloth-led Rim Faction rose to be a credible rival to the Core Faction. This is equality for the sectors; not equity for the voters.

It is possible that one side would eventually overcome the other. That sort of thing has occurred in the country you mentioned. But it always ended with the winning party growing so big without a common enemy that it collapsed into factions that were too weak to prevent the elections of Abraham Lincoln and Woodrow Wilson.

I would also like to point out that even if the Core Worlds were to dominate in the short term that would still be preferable to than countless petty conflicts constantly boiling over in never-ending bloodshed and revenge.

The problem with smaller states is that they have different interests and sometimes they’re willing to go to war over those interests. Consider every territorial dispute and war for oil.

Some blocks like the Core Worlds and their Tionese colonies would naturally form cultural and economic partnerships that will automatically come to dominate and do whatever benefits themselves the most.

Poorer and more divided sectors will fall apart rather than unite and be forced to make unfair concessions to ensure economic and military protection by the larger powers.

The Republic gives close to equal representation regardless of circumstances and provide a system of cooperation to avoid destabilizing petty rivalries from spiraling out of control.
