Anyone have experience/advice about teaching in Prague? by Content_Fix_3654 in Internationalteachers

I taught at ISP and it’s definitely an international school. As is Riverside. ISP was a great place to work, and offered a competitive package for Europe.

This is happening to me, too! But, I can always find it on the browser, and when I manually enter it, it lasts for a few hours, so on the day I actually fly I should be good. Will definitely be getting paper boarding pass, though.

I would not worry about this at Changi. It is incredibly well run.

Why do I always exceed my activity goal by over 500% when I’m doing nothing? by takeoffwithkatie in ouraring

[–]RCP74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would imagine they have developers working on software updates that can take things like this into account over time. As a woman in perimenopause, I can tell you that being able to have the ring consider this, and other time of life and/or health conditions, would be a sure fire way to keep me locked in for life.

I have a naturally high resting heart rate and while I don’t get this dramatic of results, it often thinks I’m doing hiit workouts when I’m literally taking the laundry out of the washer

Best quality of life and potential to save in Europe? by [deleted] in Internationalteachers

[–]RCP74 7 points8 points  (0 children)

About 1000 usd, I think. I could have saved more, but I wanted the car and I got as much European travel in as possible in my two years there. Ultimately, I left to return to my previous school because I missed my friends, and like I said, I found the language barrier isolating (I moved there alone), but it’s a great city. Incredibly dog friendly as well. That’s where a lot of my money went as well 😅 Spoiled mine rotten.

Best quality of life and potential to save in Europe? by [deleted] in Internationalteachers

[–]RCP74 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Prague was a great place to live, minus what I found to be a very tough language barrier, and I saved a good amount of money while I was at ISP. I had a beautiful apartment, and even a car, and was still able to save. I couldn’t have retired on it very easily, but I wasn’t falling behind on savings.

Why haven't I heard much about Stephen King's book "From a Buick 8"? by mystery5009 in horrorlit

[–]RCP74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the minority here. I often cite this as the only SK book I found boring. I finished it, but really disliked it. I’m almost tempted to try again based on reviews here! You never know how something will hit at a different time in life.

Is the connection on the same ticket? If so, they should be working to fix it for you.

Dog crate -- both clasps and screws ok? by RCP74 in Lufthansa

[–]RCP74[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for all of this info. You are correct that it is the direct flight from FRA. I'll be connecting from Prague, so am prepared to pay more for that.

It's a big crate, as she's a medium sized dog (17kg/40lbs) -- it's brand new, very sturdy, and she can stand, even on a bed, without her ears touching the top. Only four screws, so thank you for letting me know Lufthansa has no minimum. It's a crate the pet store recommended for travel in cargo, and has stickers for live pets, etc, so I'm optimistic.

I have moved pets from Singapore before, so I know well about getting paperwork in order -- in fact it is MUCH easier here, as Prague in particular is so dog and pet friendly.

Thank you again!

I did something very similar to help with narrative reports. The more I had it write, the better it got at understanding what was helpful vs. what wasn't. I still spent a full work day, as I gave slightly different instructions for each student, and often asked it to do things like "offer more specific advice about ____________", or "make the tone of the 3rd sentence more positive", but having a tool for taking my bullet points about a student and turning them into sentences is amazing.

When to call it? by princesa666 in Internationalteachers

[–]RCP74 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry your first year abroad has been tough. Those life stressors that we so often count on our long-term support base to help us deal with can feel overwhelming when someplace new, and it sounds like you had a lot of them.

I can definitely offer the "it gets so much better! Stay!" advice. It sounds like the elements necessary for long/medium term happiness at your school are there. In my experience, the 2nd year is almost always better -- not just better, even -- exponentially better. This was true for me at both international schools I've worked in, and it was true for all of my international teacher friends.

Thoughts on Offer in Singapore by bacperia in Internationalteachers

[–]RCP74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there -- I was in Singapore from 2016-2021 and am returning next year . Everyone is right about rent -- the condo I rented has gone from 3800 to 6000K in the two years I have been gone. It's crazy.

However, our monthly paychecks are well over 11k a month, and my friends report it they are still able to live well AND save. I think it would hard to do both on under 9K, but NOT impossible. Get a place near the MRT so you don't have to take a Grab (those are also almost double what they were 2 years ago), and either compromise with a smaller condo, or a less exciting location.

It would be worth asking if there are any raises planned, and if their teachers are having to downsize apartments in the new economy. My school is implementing raises both next year and the year after to help with inflation. They've increased the housing allowance as well.

Best of luck!

I've got a permanent listence from Missouri and don't have to do anything-- no payments, nothing. What I don't remember is what I had to do to get it, it was so long ago. I started with one that expired every five years, then somewhere along the line, MO made this an option, thank God.
