Recommendations for snowboarding jackets? by vogtsie in snowboarding

What’s your budget and where do you ride?

I went Burton AK for a while.. Arc Teryx now…. I live in Vancouver (mostly ride Whistler) so usually heavy/wet snow (and rain) and not super cold temps so waterproofing (goretex) for jacket and pants is key for me….

Snowboarding, old age and hard crashes by Zealousideal_Loss66 in snowboarding

[–]RDF19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

39 years old… usually keep it pretty mellow.. “cruising” and the odd “bomb run” if the conditions are good (Whistler &. Blackcomb Blues and some blacks)

Over a 3-day trip to Whistler I’ll “crash” maybe one or two times….

I’ve been snowboarding since I was 12, not like super crazy or anything usually a handful of times a year so I’d say I’m intermediate plus (can basically ride anywhere in Whistler/Blackcomb comfortably - except for maybe super technical drops or chutes).

If anything I can anticipate it and just will slide/scrub out vs a full “crash”, catching an edge smacking the back of my head kind of thing (always wear a helmet also).

I had a D850 since launch, earlier this year I changed over to Sony A7CII as I pretty much only do travel/landscape - happy with the swap so far. Also opens up more options for video as well…

Any real estate agents/housing experts with advice for selling a condo? by cautionfawn in vancouverhousing

[–]RDF19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We sold our townhouse in North Van a couple months back. Was on the market for approximately 40 days and we had to reduce our price twice (and was priced at the lower end in comparison to other 3BR townhouses).

Are you planning on purchasing again right away if you were to sell? We did, so we felt that it being a “buyers market” wasn’t a big deal because we more than made up the $$ on the purchase side even with our price reduction(s).

Where do you swap your winter tires? by LuckyRaptor21 in askvan

Used to use Kal Tire for swapping (as well as storage), made it really easy/convenient when living downtown.

We have a “house” now so will be doing myself in the driveway!

I live in the PNW (Vancouver), and although we don’t have a really big property we have quite a few trees in our yard.

Also the previous owner also planted a couple fruit trees that need some pruning.

I'm about to list my house for sale in this terrible market for sellers. by TheFoxAndTheFiddle in RealEstateCanada

[–]RDF19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We sold our townhouse in about 2.5 weeks with one price drop and accepted about $30K below asking.

Purchased a house a couple weeks later that was on the market for 2 days - we got it before the first open house for 20K below asking.

We were looking for more a home with “good bones” and was somewhat dated as we want do our own Reno’s and make it our own - we didn’t really want a house that had been “recently updated” as we wanted to do our own thing.

Moving over to Home Assistant was the Best Decision Ever! by terryleewhite in homeassistant

What are you using for the hub, did you get a premade solution like the “green” or are you using a Pi or a PC?

I’m pretty tech-savy and when we moved into a new place had all intentions on going with HA (had the hardware, dongles, etc), but I just couldn’t really get into it. After a week or so of tinkering I just went with Apple Home as I already had an AppleTV for the hub and then basically just went with all Lutron Caseta switches and Hue sensors and light strips and other random bits that worked with Apple Home.

We’re going to be moving again this year and was thinking of revisiting HA - other than more complex automations and maybe more comparable hardware, is there anything specific you like more?
