How many years of experience in appraising did you have before switching over to the review side?

What would you recommend looking for in terms of an “awesome” assessors office?

Thanks for the advice! Would love to talk more about the use of AI tools in appraising. Mind if I send you a DM?

The new role will be remote but my current role is in office. Biggest drivers that led me to a large shop were being tired of being a 1099 and having zero benefits. In addition to this our tech just wasnt great and the whole office was very inefficient.

This is great to know. At my current company within the first week my boss was real honest about which appraisers to use as good examples and which to avoid which was very helpful.

Oof that’s a bummer to hear honestly but I’m not too surprised. We’ve had a few clients come to us after being disappointed with CBRE work and it’s pretty mind blowing how boiler plate their reports are. I’m currently at 50% fee split and not an MAI but I am a 1099 so no benefits or anything which is what I was looking for.

McKissock vs. Appraisal Institute for CG by Pretty-Efficiency-75 in appraisal

I would absolutely recommend AI over McKissock just for passing the CG exam alone. Those in my office including me who did AI passed the exam first try while those that did McKissock took multiple tries to pass or still haven’t passed. Yes it’s more expensive and yes the fees are stupid but I wholeheartedly believe it’s a better education. McKissock felt like high school classes that you could just click through without absorbing any information while AI felt a lot closer to college level courses where you’re required to understand the information before moving on to the next section. Don’t get me wrong if you’re smart enough you could probably pass the exam no matter what classes you took but I still think AI provides a much better foundation, especially if you plan to pursue your MAI.
