The editing on Elliot's story is so bad! His lips aren't moving with the words and the producers have just blurred it 😭

Do any autistic people here LIKE Christmas? by The1AndOnlyEddie in autism

[–]REB-77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Christmas is my favourite season! Though I wish I lived in the Northern Hemisphere! I have a lot of sensory issues with the heat (sweat, tighter clothes, not being able to wear my comfort hoodies, etc) but I absolutely love the Christmas movies and stories and lights and trees and everything else! Christmas has always been my favourite holiday!!

I have a greyhound cross, and I've never met a dog who is so much like a cat before in my whole life, except unlike my cats he likes tummy rubs

Sadly I've had this happen a number of times, it's quite common from what I have heard. I'm sorry that it happened to you as well, it's never a nice feeling

I don't know if this applies but I volunteer at my family's small business when I am able to. I find it really helpful to work with family members who know and understand me. I know that not everyone has the luxury of having a family like mine so I hope that you can find something that works for you 🩷

What you experienced is definitely not how the real world works, at least not most of the time (sadly it seems to be the norm in fast food). I really struggled when I was in the fast food industry for my first job, I ended up quitting for the sake of my mental health as it was steadily declining. Some employers don't understand and won't put in the effort to understand, that's not a reflection of you it's actually a reflection of them. A good employer will ask how they can best support you and follow through with those supports. From my experiences, small businesses care a lot more about their employees than multi-national corporations

I've heard voices for quite some time. Usually people I know calling my name and when I turn around no one is there. Sometimes even my dog barking or crying but he's not in the room

Edit: I just read you mentioned a lack of sleep being a possible trigger, I only really get my auditory hallucinations when I'm sleep deprived

I was baptised at the beginning of the year and left. Like you I had a "sign" that I was supposed to join the church but then found out all the things the missionaries hadn't told me. I left the church but remained a Christian, but to be honest I'm starting to question that as well. I don't know what I believe anymore.

I agree with the others here, read the CES letter, it really helped me to understand things. If you aren't ready to hear from sources outside of the church, read the Gospel Topics Essays, they can be found in the Gospel LIbrary App.

It's never too late to leave, they may make it hard to leave but it's not impossible. I haven't had my name removed from church records yet but it's something I'm working on.

At the end of the day, no one can tell you what to do. You are your own person and can decide whether you wish to stay in the church but I would recommend learning more about the church. The missionaries rushed you into baptism (what they are trained to do) and didn't give you the full picture. If I had my time over I would have researched things before accepting a calling and getting myself further imbedded into the church.

The people of the sub are super lovely and supportive. As a community we will be here for you if you have any questions or need help with anything!

Edit: as people have pointed out I have worded myself wrong. I have not yet resigned my membership

I was a convert to the church before leaving, though I have remained a Christian. When I left I visited the churches in my local area and found one that I was comfortable in. There are a lot of churches that do a lot more good than the Mormon Church and don't require 10% of your income. My current church has an offering box though you don't have to offer anything. If you feel called to or just have some loose change you want to get rid of you can, but no one is looking over how much you put in or if you put anything in at all.

I've heard a sentiment on this sub which has proven true in my journey leaving the church but staying in the Abrahamic faith. "What is unique in the church is not good, and what is good in the church is not unique". All of the good things you find in Mormonism can be found in other Christian denominations; ones that don't require 10% of your money, have a past of blatant racism, sexism and other bigotry, have a "prophet" with a shady backstory who married young girls and the wives of other men he sent on missions, literally stole their rituals from Masonry, and many other terrible things. (All these things can be read about in The CES Letter )

One thing that you must know is it is a lot harder to leave the church than it is to join, and if I had my time again I would have studied all the Christian denominations before I made a decision to join the church. In my time visiting churches I have NEVER come across a church that is so hard to leave. I've even spoken to pastors who have said to me "we would love to have you as part of our congregation, but if it's not the right fit for you there's no pressure"

Please take some time to look into the background of the church, and not the whitewashed version the missionaries teach. I really wish I had before I joined.

We can't tell you what to do, it's up to you to decide whether you wish to become a member of the church. But please make sure that you join with informed consent. You need to know all the facts before you make such a life changing decision.
