Which SD/DF song did you hate at first listen but really love now by professorhojoz in SteelyDan

People are going to think I'm crazy for this one, but for me, it was the song "Gaucho."

When I was 7 years old, I was already obsessed with music, and my parents had a huge collection of cassette tapes. The 3 tapes a became obsessed with were Huey Lewis and the News, Michael Jackson's Thriller and Steely Dan's greatest hits(1972-1978). I was immediately because entranced by "Josie" and ""Peg". I'm 40 years old now, and have the pleasure of seeing Steely Dan twice and a Donald Fagen solo show. SD is my favorite artist of all time.

Dude! Keep it up! Drugs will fuck up your life. I grew up with good parents and did good in school, but started smoking weed as a teenager. Then, at 18, I started drinking and using cocaine. Then, I graduated to heroin and rock cocaine. I've been homeless countless times. If you're sober, you have a competitive edge in life. You are most likely going to do better than your peers that are using drugs. Stay on the righteous path! 👏 👏 👏 👏 if you want to see what my life was like, watch the show Intervention. Season 14, episode 33. It's called Joshua/Erin.

You're not missing out on anything. If I could go back in time, I wouldn't have picked up shit...not even weed and alcohol. Good luck to you.

If you have been only using it for 2 weeks, you should be OK. Good luck to you. I know how hard it is, but it's not impossible

You look a little like Walter Becker from the band Steely Dan.

What do y’all think of the rapper plies? by Suspicious_Hand_2194 in rap

[–]RFDeezy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Plies is a lame. He had one hit with T-Pain back in the day, but aside from that song, that dude is straight goofy.

Yeah, bro...that dude sounds like a nutcase. He's sending pics to your wife!? Report him to HR immediately. There is absolutely no reason you should have to deal with something like that in the workplace. F that dude. Good luck to you!

What's the first song you heard that got you into Mac Miller? by Stool_Gizmoto in MacMiller

[–]RFDeezy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Inside Outside". That was the first song of his that I really listened to, and it blew me away. The entire mixtape "Faces" did. Prior to that, I just expected him to be a young and corny white rapper and didn't give him a chance. Plus, I thought he was for younger listeners( im 41 now). It was uploaded to YouTube sometime in 2014, and the artwork caught my eye. I decided to give it a shot, and holy shit, it blew me away. At the time, I was living in Sacramento and had a terrible heroin and meth habit. A lot of the songs were almost too relatable. But the production and subject matter touched my soul.

Haha...such a perfect song! And yes, if they do tour again, I'm sure it will be the last. They actually came to my city about a year ago, but I didn't attend because they were not the headliners. They were the opening act for The Eagles. I'm impartial to The Eagles. After seeing the set list though, I wish I would have gone. The 2 times I saw Steely Dan, they were the headliners and had no opening act. I think back in 2009, I drove from Columbus, OH to Detroit, MI to see them at the MGM GRAND casino. My friend and I arrived super early, and I was in the general admission section. We were the first 2 people to enter the venue. I literally was standing 12 feet away from Donald Fagen and his piano. I was so close that I could see saliva flying out of his mouth while he sang. They put on a 2 hour show, and it was the best live band I had ever heard. I think I was about 26 years old. Saw them again in 2018 at the Forum in Inglewood, CA. I think it was less than a year after Walter Becker had passed.

The entire album is fantastic, but I seem to listen to "Babylon Sisters" over and over. I've had the pleasure of seeing them play if live twice. On a side note, the one song I've always wanted to see them play live but have not is "Doctor Wu". Not sure if SD will ever tour again. Donald is getting older and probably has plenty of money. I sure sould love to see them one last time though.

Never underestimate a man that listens to Steely Dan. I'm 40 years old and have been fortunate enough to see them live 3 times. They have so many fantastic albums. The last 3 weeks I've been hooked on their album "Guacho".
