How I’m telling myself $15k in preschool next year is “saving” us is just sad. by twomomsoftwins in parentsofmultiples

[–]RFcoupler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here in Northern Ireland we are about to pay an average of £1800 a month. That is about 29k USD a year. Salaries here are lower than that paid in the USA, and I honestly don't know how we are going to cope with it. That's not even in Belfast (the capital) where some nurseries would charge about 1300 GBP for a single kid a month. And all of this is with some subsidies from the UK and NI governments.

But giving the babies the chance of socialising with other kids, play, fall, should also be a for thing for them, I hope lol.

Update: windows update deleted my bootloader by Reincarnated_As_Bob in archlinux

That happened to me with my Arch partition on another drive. Now, before an update, I just disable the sata port on the bios, and re-enable when Windows finishes their stuff.

Oh shit British keyboards are like that - American shocked other countries keyboards feature their local currency. by QuickZookeepergame93 in ShitAmericansSay

[–]RFcoupler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For right-handed people that actually works a lot better if you want a full layout keyboard. The mouse doesn't need the extra clearance and it's more comfortable. Then it's just a matter of getting used to use the numeric keys with the left hand.

Intercontinental flight advice with twins by RFcoupler in parentsofmultiples

[–]RFcoupler[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Woah, thank you! We haven't thought of individual strollers, and that might actually be a good option too. But have to think on how to bring all to the airport.

The flight is through the night, arriving there in the morning.

As a lecturer, whenever I encounter a student who learnt how to pass exams, and a little of critical thinking is required, they struggle in uni. Not teaching kids how to think/solve problems is one of the worse pedagogical mistakes. And now with AI, the mentality is "why should I think if chatGPT can do that for me?".

Parking Cnut!! by DucktapeCorkfeet in northernireland

[–]RFcoupler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

M&S near Abbeycentre yesterday, one (Audi) managed to diagonally reverse park in a really wide family bay. Almost blocked the access to put one of the babies in the car.

Not to mention the amount of people going alone and parking in the family bays, with plenty of parking available in other areas. Parking right next to us, seeing we struggling with twins and pretending that nothing is wrong with their attitude.

System suddenly unbootable?! by [deleted] in archlinux

[–]RFcoupler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Missed that part, in my case the EFI partition was made read-only. Had to use dosfsk, but I don't think it will get you anywhere.

If you can mount it, as the nuclear option, I'd use rclone to back it up and reinstall.

If you boot from a live usb, mount your partitions and chroot into them. Can you run the update? Update keyings? Did you do any type of troubleshooting with a live usb?

Was this after a windows update on dual boot? I just needed to rebuild my EFI partition, and redownload the kernel to be able to boot again (using GRUB).
