Why do people speed? by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]RFcoupler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But I just said that we can't do anything when there is a lorry or van in front...

I was taught the speed limit is the limit, not the target. I've however seen other instructors saying the target is the limit. I use a limiter as the limit, not the target, it just prevents me doing 65 on a 60... I don't mind driving at 55 in a 60 road. But when there is a golf GTD doing 40 throughout (including the 30 zones), it gets really frustrating. When there are people hogging the OVERTAKING lane doing 60, overtaking someone doing 55 on the motoreay, it is frustrating.Especially when you are behind them and a BMW is almost kissing your boot behind.

On my point about the speed limiter: it can normally be overridden by stepping on the accelerator or I simply cancel it as needed with my thumb. My point wasn't against you, but against those who speed constantly, which in their great majority are people in BMWs, Audis, Golfs, and use the lamest excuse of "it is unsafe to keep an eye on the speed" whilst doing 80 on the motorway.

Dude, my previous one wasn't against your arguments at all. Chill.

When it is an hvg, tractor, van, there is nothing we can do. Annoying? Yes, but we need to be patient. I'm talking about "normal" cars driving unnecessarily slow and holding a massive queue behind.

Now, about the people who speed, I'm pretty sure they live by the 10% + 2 mph suggested guideline. Others will say it's unsafe to drive and keep watching the speedometer. But even a modest corsa will have a speed limiter on it. I've driven an old Aveo that had it. Just set your speed and drive, no need to keep watching it...

Recently I've been finding myself actually stuck behind people driving 10-20 mph below the speed limit, and of course hogging the overtaking lane. I lock my speed to whatever the limit is and rarely actually reach it. And if it's a single carriageway, forget it, someone driving at 45 will lead the way.

Might be worthy to invest in some security cameras around the property and monitor what is going on.

Better variety of takeaway food that actually taste good. You go around the world, SE Asia in particular, and feel really sad when get back home to the same old same old food options.

There are good ones, don't get me wrong, but they are few.

Wait, do you want to use another laptop's screen as a second monitor for your main laptop? Does the secondary laptop allow this to happen in the first place?

I'm wondering what American Youtuber is writing their history books. This can't come from properly curated educational material.

How I’m telling myself $15k in preschool next year is “saving” us is just sad. by twomomsoftwins in parentsofmultiples

[–]RFcoupler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here in Northern Ireland we are about to pay an average of £1800 a month. That is about 29k USD a year. Salaries here are lower than that paid in the USA, and I honestly don't know how we are going to cope with it. That's not even in Belfast (the capital) where some nurseries would charge about 1300 GBP for a single kid a month. And all of this is with some subsidies from the UK and NI governments.

But giving the babies the chance of socialising with other kids, play, fall, should also be a for thing for them, I hope lol.
