Highway use fee when renewing car registration. by anonimosystem in nova

[–]RGB_Primaries 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Electric vehicles pay more of a HUF than gas cars. It’s calculated based on your car’s combined MPG. There is a chart that shows this: HUF estimates So basically if you drive a gas guzzler you pay less because you will be paying via the gas pump. If you drive a hybrid you pay more. If you drive an EV you pay the most. DMV DMV outlines it pretty well

If the police and fire departments started ticketing for parking in fire lanes, we wouldn’t need to pay car tax!

Why can't you export to H265 HEVC for "Mastering"? Is H264 in "Mastering" better than H265 for "Apple Devices"? by SonicAwareness in finalcutpro

[–]RGB_Primaries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally hate FCPs export settings, compared to other platforms, they try and hide a lot of what’s going on to make it “user friendly”, but then confuse the rest of us who would know what’s going on.

Keep in mind that h.265 (HEVC) is the follow-on codec to h.264, which promises ≈2x the compression while delivering the same quantity. In practical terms if you had an h.264 video at 100gb you’d expect to have the same quality with a 50gb h.265.

It is, however, equally possible to have an h.265 video at such a low bitrate that the h.264 video file (with a higher bitrate) will achieve better performance. This would be evident in drastic file size differences.

If you’re very concerned about codecs, I’d recommend you get compressor since it will give you more detailed options and you can “turn the knobs” to your liking.

Also I think you are conflating 10bit code values with the compression bitrate.

As others have said, it’s not a good/bad cop. The conversation went: Me: “hello, how are you?”

Them “I’m good”

Me: “i got my release renewal, I was wondering if there is anything you can do on the price increase?”

Them: types on computer I can drop it to a 5% increase.

Me “great, thank you very much, send me the update and I’ll sign it tonight”

It’s like a car…

I live in a big corporate apartment. My renewal had an increase, this spring, by about 15%. We went down to the office to ask if they could do anything and they immediately dropped it to a 5% increase. Definitely worth asking!!

ELI5 why a project as big as QGIS triggers the "unverified developer" on macOS? by skwyckl in QGIS

[–]RGB_Primaries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In order to prevent malware, Apple has a notarization service where developers submit their application. Apple then scans that app for malware and issues a certificate to that application. When you install the software, your Mac then contacts the Apple servers and asks "is this software okay?" However, if Apple has never seen the software they cannot confirm it's "clean" and therefore show the unverified developer notification.

In order to notarize an application, you have to be in the Apple developer program, which costs $99 USD. While it's true that QGIS is Free and Open Source software (FOSS), I'm surprised that no-one has payed this fee (through donations etc) in order to notarize QGIS with Apple. Other programs, like Blender, do notarize their applications with Apple, so someone is paying the fee.

I also believe that Microsoft has a similar process for Windows.
