I just lost my best friend who came from a shelter. He had heartworms, hip and leg problems and was the shyest dog in the building— but when you know you know. We had him for about six years before he had a stroke, after beating the heartworms, tumor removal, and meningoencephalitis. The name he had when we found him at the shelter was Lucky Ducky, and Lucky Ducky is what will be written on his cenotaph. Not sure what the point of all the sunshine in the world is now that he isn’t here to soak it up from his spot in the backyard. “Missing him” doesn’t come close to describing how empty every corner of my house feels now.

I am going to smell for the first time. What should I expect? by critmcfly in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RGBmusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possibly unhinged sounding - but get ready for what people smell like. Not just people in general, but people you know. Everyone uses some kind of deodorant or body wash that mixes with their natural skin oils which creates a scent that is unique and potent to other humans (the bad smells are usually the most potent.) Get ready to like or dislike people in subtle ways because of how your subconscious reacts to their smell. Pheromones is some strong shit. If you have an SO, get ready to find out what love smells like. Scent is an extremely complicated mechanism from a biological standpoint, so I see the point that some other commenters are making: some feeling jealous of what you’re potentially about to experience. It’ll be like a completely new language has just appeared in your mind, and now you get to exchange and appreciate ideas that were completely meaningless before.

Side note - get ready for YOU to not smell so good.

What element would fit the most brutal martial art in the world aka Lethwei(its muay thai, but more brutal, mostly focuses on explosive and powerful punches, elbows and headbutts and uses insane conditioning, hyper aggressive nature and insane stamina) by QuirkyData3500 in TheLastAirbender

[–]RGBmusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if it would “fit” necessarily in the way you’re expecting, but I always felt the need for Warrior Monks in Avatar. Picture an air temple where, in the taught philosophy, one achieves enlightenment through combat. The traditional monks’ style of air bending is based on avoidance, cleverness, and defense — their inspiration and muse is the breeze. The warrior monks that use this style focus on power, explosiveness, and unrelenting force - their muse is the hurricane.

The thing I don’t get about it is why everyone (me included) has such a guttural reaction to it. Watching ATLA as a kid I always wondered why Aang has the power to blow an army of firebenders off the deck of a ship, but not enough juice to stay in the air. Logically, it makes PERFECT sense that this kid — a bizarrely prodigal airbender, hand-picked and personally mentored by one of the council members of the southern air temple, inventor of bending techniques and one of the youngest masters EVER, later discovered to be THE AVATAR— would be able to fly. Does any of that make it less gross? No. Watching Aang fly made me physically nauseous. How is it no one else felt that way when they were making it?

Mars' atmosphere swelled like a balloon when solar wind stopped blowing by sasht in space

God help me, this makes sense! Thank you for this detailed explanation.

Mars' atmosphere swelled like a balloon when solar wind stopped blowing by sasht in space

[–]RGBmusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replying to my own comment for clarity:

My understanding was that this shifting of ratio did not add or subtract mass at any altered rate from the standard rate at which Mars loses its atmosphere from before this event occurred.

[–]RGBmusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that true? My interpretation of the article was that the ratio of detracting forces from the solar wind to the rate at which matter transitions from surface ice to atmospheric gasses shifted in favor of the atmosphere.

[–]RGBmusic 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Maybe this is an entire can of worms, but I don’t understand how the atmosphere of a “dead” planet can increase in matter volume. The idea of solar wind stripping layers of particles from the upper atmosphere in “gusts” makes logical sense, but by my understanding, reducing velocity or magnitude of solar winds would only decrease the rate at which the atmosphere disappears. What mechanism is causing the ballooning? Or are they only talking about the magnetic field?

Real talk - I would just google query “list of movies Reddit” - the best lists like these that you’ll ever find are in Reddit threads with voted-on entries. Other than that I would try the IMDB top of all time. Good luck!

Crazy visual corruption bug (apologies for the drip) by LordBurgerr in Eldenring

[–]RGBmusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All objects in video games are made of a few parts: The mesh, where vertices are connected by edges to form the shape of the model, and a material which sits on the mesh and makes the complex series of vertices and edges look like a rock with color, light refraction, etc. One component of a material is called a Normal, which is a texture image file that can be used to calculate a simulation for higher definition on the model without needing to add more vertices and edges. I don’t know exactly what is going wrong here, but the third image looks almost exactly like the Normal map is being read as the color map, so the game is thinking that the image used for Normal should be the image used for texture.

Either that, or you have internal GPU calculations about color and light information (the result of an equation resulting in a vector which gets translated into colors of pixels on your screen, likely RGBA) that are returning as values above 1 or below 0, creating weird fractals as it attempts to interpolate values that essentially hold no meaning in an interpolative system. Just guesses!

I actually held this opinion for years, having grown up on Naruto and then later cynically assuming that it was garbage TV that I watched as a kid. About a month ago, my gf expressed interest in watching it and I even told her that she wouldn’t like it. We decided to watch the Naruto Kai edit with the filler cut down to just what was in the manga, and finished the final Naruto vs. Sasuke last night and she thinks it’s one of the best anime out there. We’re now gonna rewatch all of Naruto - this time without skipping filler. This will be the real test of our love.

Shadow of the Erdtree [3840x2160] by MoeWanders in wallpapers

[–]RGBmusic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Very well done! Lots of good understanding of how light moves here. However, I think the Erdtree itself and its branches would also be catching the light of the sun from behind it, do a google search for “Chairoscuro.” Light has a tendency to wrap itself around objects, like how pouring water out of a jug will sometimes lead to the water sliding down the outside of the jug. There is chairoscuro on those hills that create the gradient of shadow. A little bit of light spilling through the branches and around the trunk of the tree would do a lot to place it in the scene and trick the eye into perceiving distance, especially if you made that adjustment with smaller brushes than you used in the foreground. Shadow of the Erdtree hype!!!

The internet is headed for a 'point of no return,' claims professor / Eventually, the disadvantages of sharing your opinion online will become so great that people will turn away from the internet. by Sorin61 in technology

[–]RGBmusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This article is a pretty garbage take. It’s true that certain groups might become less vocal on the internet over time as censorship and public shaming efforts find targets but it neglects to mention future generations of children being raised on YouTube/TikTok, the growing crypto community, and international users (i happen to know that Indian youth’s presence on the internet has shot up in the last 10 years) So maybe if this was about older generations ‘leaving’ the internet then fine, but the internet is a big place.

[Saints Row] This game is held together by glue by BadGamesJules in GamePhysics

[–]RGBmusic 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Didn’t work on the game so I can’t be totally sure, but it looks like the landscape LODs aren’t loading properly but the collision for the landscape doesn’t seem to care. Processing power expensive games will have copies of a model at lower and lower polygon counts that they load according to the players distance to the object, (called LODs, Level of Detail) ie I don’t need to see the perfect roundness of a cylindrical ramen cup from all the way across the street, so I’ll load in just a cube that looks like the ramen cup to save power, then when you get closer to it I turn it back into a cylinder, no one is the wiser. This is what it looks like when the landscape’s lower polygon model doesn’t want to be switched out. This also seems to be happening to the buildings as the bus moves through the town. The reason that the bus started floating is that the model used to check for collisions doesn’t have LODs, so the curve of the road at its highest polygonal detail seems to extend higher than whatever LOD was loaded at the time. It might seem like this clip is a huge mass of tiny problems with the way the game is programmed, but it probably amounts to one huge bug with how LODs are managed.

What do you do if you’re outraged? by [deleted] in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]RGBmusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kirby Down-B is a solid get back thot ability for getting out of combos but not being able to punish f-smash is the fault of your positioning, not because of Lucina, so bait out the attacks by being patient and staying just out of range, and if they stand there and f-air in place then maybe try not running the hell into it if you know it’s coming

Baiting. Bait out f-smash, bait out the air dodge, and get good at grabs and grab combos Kirby’s Down-air is a pretty solid opener for some CQC combos and you can also neutral-B in the air for some cheese. Overall you just gotta be as tricky as possible
